“He Made His Choice, Just as She Has Made Hers” by Margarita LaMara Lapina. posted by LaMara November 07, 2009, 05:57:53 PM 7506 8 4.99 (1 vote)
I wanted to show both Treestump and Clearbrook finding their places. He fulfills his dream and becomes a smith; but it is she who helps him all the way through, she is needed, so her place is near him, she gives him strength.

Redlance's plantshaping powers finally emerge... I always imagined this as a far more emotional self-discovery than depicted in the comics; perhaps it was the novelization that gave me the idea, though I misplaced the book long ago.  Yet Redlance struggled so long with feelings of inadequacy and disappointment, I feel his coming into his own must have been a moment of sheer joy.

Misty Memories.  Dart remembers the past, the many places he has lived.

Born of the Forest and wolf, raised by the sun and sand.
Was once a chief of Jackwolf riders, but now, I am where I belong.
I found my place amongst the Forest and Wolves.
At home, and at peace, with myself and my family.

What were the moments that made the various Jackwolf Riders decide that they wanted to step into a role that had never been their way? And what was life like for those Wolfriders that had turned away from The Way, finding their place in the peaceful lives of the Sun Folk?  Between the Wolfrider and the Sun Villager, who is the dirt digger, and who is the fierce huntress?

2010 Fan Art Calendar:  OCTOBER

I knew Scouter was an obvious choice for the calendar, so I tried hard to think of other characters. Yet he kept poking at me, telling me he really wanted to shine, and when I started seeing the leaves turn color, I knew I had to paint him.

Leetah gave up a world she loved born beneath the warm rays of the sun, for another life with those she loves in the shadows of night.

Talking about forgotten characters... I don't think I've seen fanart of the humans before!

So Nonna (and Adar) came to mind. They've meant so much for the quest and it was easy to fit them in the theme. When Cutter visited Nonna again in the village of Olbar it seemed to me that everything that was surrounding her there made her happy, so I tried to fit everything in

Woodlock, and especially Rainsong are mostly shown as "perfectly assimilated", but I like the idea of them still bounding with wolves and hunt at night, it's in their blood, right?!

So I had so many ideas for this years calendar unfortunately none of them coopperated with me, until I was reading my elfquest anthologies and came across the story of Rahnee again though the story has stuck with me since I first read the books and it struck me that this scene would be great for this theme, though my mom and sisters still insist that the deer is only sleeping, it must be the lack of blood or something.
"Still Finding Our Place" by Seraphima Chisler (Elftanner) posted by Elftanner December 01, 2009, 02:54:47 PM 3627 7 4.99 (1 vote)
When the elves landed they were scared and scattered, when they decided to make the best of it (because they couldn't go back) they decided to find a place for themselves. They still are in the form of Cutter's tribe.

Stranded on a world not our own, struggling to find our place.
Children grown, generations pass, still we are misunderstood.
Have we found our place? With our home of the past, living in the wood?

This is a picture of when Goodtree found her place in the tribe as a plant-shaper and at one of her key moments, as she was forming and shaping and giving birth to the Father Tree.

2010 Fan Art Calendar:  NOVEMBER

I finally hit on an idea for this year's theme when it was mentioned in the EQFA calendar thread that depicting a character doing something they love might be fitting; and when I was rereading through a whole lot of the comics in order to refresh my view of some of the characters.

It struck me that I liked the fact that Pike seemed to grow into his role of storyteller and howl-keeper over the course of the series, finding his place in that niche.  And, it also struck me that in any society, telling stories about the past is one of the main ways that children are helped to find a place in their culture, and certainly wolfriders, with their love of stories and Howls, are no exception to that. (Did I mention that I work in a folklore dept? ;-) )

In his head there's chaos and pain, except for one moment. It's at a certain point of the war in the Frozen mountains where he's sitting very confident watching the trolls vs. the elves, the only moment he's very sure of himself and his plans... before Rayek rejoins the group with the forest trolls and wipes Two-Edge's perfect game set-up off the table. Just before he was going to find out where he belongs...

2010 Fan Art Calendar:  AUGUST

Nightfall remembers her childhood in the forest before her family was killed. These were the happiest days of her life with love and kindness when she didn't know about dangers and troubles. And that's the place she feels she belongs, but there no way to come back.

I found out they were putting all of Elfquest online I began reading it nonstop. A lot of it was new material since not everything was printed where I live.  One of my favourite elves was Kahvi, hardheaded an tough with a sometimes unexpected soft side, so I picked her.   I shows Kahvi and her wolf peacefully looking out over her home.
