I really liked seeing these old-and-new drawings, and figured I could do one of my own. Goudoog was my very first RPG character. Now, I can already tell a dozen things are wrong with the new pic, as well, but it beats the old one by far ;) One thing that didn't change -- the scanning is just as crappy.

Honestly, the old illo isn't bad at all, and I like the softness of the outline you used for it.  I do have to agree with you, however, that the new one is better (and scanners just hate art in general).  The shading, body, and detailing are really improved and lovely.

I've seen some of your work somewhere else.  I love your style and I look forward to seeing more!

Nice, an old picture I've actually seen before! :D I agree with Amberfox, though your old picture has it's own beauty in the soft way of coloring, the new one just looks like you know what you were doing. The coloring and especially the shading is a lot stronger. I like those highlights you left out on the edges. And her feet and face seem more relaxed! It all looks more natural.

Thanks, both! For nostalgia's sake, I went through my old SJV and Rhovanion folders. I assure you, this is nowhere NEAR the worst picture I did in that time. I believe I used an example picture for this one, which is why it is not that bad as much of the others I spotted.
I dreaded Goudoog's black outfit -- I can't remember if it was in the original CIS or if I thought it was pretty at the time (what was I thinking). I thought about giving Goudoog one of her newer outfits in this picture, but for oldies' sake, I stuck with it. The black erased some of he details, though, which is a pity :)

I should make a selection of art and post it here. I've postponed it for too long ;)

I did the same thing, giving chars black or impossible uncomfortable outfits. I can't imagine how cold Vuurhaar must've been in his (black) clothes that were the same in summer as winter! :P

Oh cool! I also like the old version a lot! Her eyes are so beautifully sad... But the new one does look much more defined and the short and those amber eyes are just gorgeous! I really like the black outfit, too. How many years have passed between those two drawings, if I may ask?

A little less than ten years. I think I joined SWH around October 2000, and I drew this picture soon after ;)

Afke, I think we grew out of impossible outfits. Or maybe our elves made us :P
