The play of light and dark in this illo, the attention to the details of her hair and clothing, even the rock outcropping against the stark background really make this illo come to life.  Gorgeous and impressive.

I absolutely love this illo!  The coloration in it, attention to background details, the splash of water coming up around her foot, and the movement involved in the illo are all just breathtaking!

I personally love her simple leather outfit with the feather decorations.  She looks like she's off and on the hunt...or just for some fun after a long, boring winter.

And Ember is one of my favorite original characters (along with Nightfall and Vaya); you did a perfect job!

Well, drat it!  Let me check through my things (I'm such a packrat), and I'll send the other two ASAP.

Unfortunately, she's unable to see the dark, dangerous, and lethal side of things and this could very well get her wounded or killed.  You're right, though; she'll never give up.

You're welcome, Robi!  Yeah, I tend not to post my color work as a result; it looks so much better in person than once a scanner is done chewing it up and spitting it out.  Glad things worked out and look forward to seeing more of your work.  Mind if I post the illo I did of Mystik?

Thank you, Icemoon!  The hair took me quite some time to finish.  I see you are familiar with Moluccan cockatoos - anyone that has been around one knows that feeling!
In Female Marut - Posted Sep 30, 2009
The color work in this is great, particularly in the top (jacket?).  It has a lifelike quality to it that really draws in the viewers' eyes.

The hairstyle is very unique, and really catches one's attention, but I have to ask - how do they (both Marut genders) manage to keep it sweeping upward?

Are you kidding, Mischievous_Valkyrie?  Your inking is wonderful!

Well, my hesitation mostly stems from several people over the years giving me a hard time for having characters with really long hair - but I can't help it!  I've also had complaints about my style, and after seeing all the gorgeous art here, I wasn't sure if my art would hold up.  Still, it's great to be out and amongst other EQ fans and get some critiques that will help me improve.

Afke:

I think maybe my post was too long, so -

Yes, African hunting dogs have a huge list of names they're called by: African hunting dogs, Cape hunting dogs, African wild dogs, painted wolves, spotted dogs (although in America, those are usually Dalmations), Mwali (I think; local term).

I also still have and love the illos you did of my gang back in Shadow Vale.  You did a wonderful job with them!  Thank you!

Ayoooah Afke! I was thinking about sending you email and asking if I had sent you the illo I did a while back of Fasteye. Did I send you the ones I did of Goldmoon (I think her name is) and Pinvis? I did those around the same time, but it was a very hectic time for me and I can't recall now if I sent them or not. Let me know if I didn't and I'll try and get them to you ASAP. I am very glad you like the one of Fasteye; I rarely ever know if the creator is happy with what I've done or not.

I just posted an illo to this site that I had in mind just for you. It prominently features a troll maiden - I remember reading you didn't think the trolls had enough time in the limelight.

Drat!  He's supposed to be over in My Holts album!  Ah well.

Testing here - Afke, I've been trying to reply to your message all day.  I don't know what's going on, but, I'll keep trying.
In Chieftess Goodhope - Posted Sep 29, 2009
Thank you; I try!

Thank you, Mischievous_Valkyrie!  I really enjoyed drawing Boldkill, and I will post another illo at some point featuring another Shadowstrider actually riding her bond.  I also did a drawing of an African hunting dog for a zoo in Florida to place in their enclosure that had two brother African hunting dogs.  I was so excited to do it!

And may I say I love your work as well?  I've seen your work in Oceans Edge and Tailwater; will you be posting the one you did for Janett?  I was absolutely impressed with it!
In Tynami - Posted Sep 28, 2009
I really love this illo.  The relaxed pose she has, and her apparent gazing up at a bird with the bird's reflection in the water is just a fun detail.  The coloration is great; everything is soft and almost pastel, but it works to invoke actually being at the beach.  The colors play off of each other very well without overpowering anything.
In Fladder and Zoetgras - Posted Sep 28, 2009
The coloration and shading on these two are amazing, and the relaxed and confident poses are terrific.  Wish I could draw hands as well as you!

I'm going to give it a go: I'm seeing at least three different images of birds (raptors, from what I can gather), a reindeer/carabou, at least two wolves, and a horse.  Not sure about some of the rest of it, though; can't quite see the image large enough.
In Quite Windy - Raven - Posted Sep 28, 2009
She's a lovely character, Silberschweif, and I like the movement in the illo.  The coloring and shading is very well done, and the swirling of the cloth just adds more interest for the viewer.  As for nudity, I see absolutely nothing wrong with it.  Don't change a thing!
In Thunderstorm - Posted Sep 28, 2009
I knew there'd be comments about the hair thing, but what can I say?  Some characters are just meant to have it!  I promise I'll post illos I've done of characters with short hair.  Remember, I'm just getting started.
In Amberfox and Bangle - Posted Sep 28, 2009
Thank you, Silberschweif!  I've been lurking about the site for some time, very nervous about posting anything, especially after seeing so much wonderful art.  I finally decided to just take a deep breath and go for it.
In Thunderstorm - Posted Sep 28, 2009
Heh, heh...yeah, although he's more likely to say, **If you like what you see, come take it!**
In Amberfox and Bangle - Posted Sep 28, 2009
Okay, I hope I'm doing this right; please bear with me...

Thank you for the warm greetings, Foxeye!  I'm a huge - HUGE - fan of your work.  I recently sent you a personal email regarding a couple of questions.  If you have not received it yet, let me know.  I'm still trying to figure this all out.

If you're asking about the illo of Pearlshade reaching out to a seahorse, yes, that was my work.  I did that one for Nightsea way back when we were both members of Shadow Vale Holt.
