Duh...just read that part of Maggie's post. Like I said, it's been rough lately. Thanks!

To be certain I understand, all conversations regarding the 2025 calendar should go to the elfquestfanartcalendar email address or can we post ideas here? I think this weather is getting to me. My brain hurts. We had freezing rain and snow, so I was not about to drive down the mountain to go to work today.

Ayooooah all! I am going to TRY and submit this year. I have a couple sketches from a while back that I can see if I can finish in time. Sorry I've been away, but life has completely hit me hard in my personal, family, and professional life. Due to all these issues, I cannot make promises of anything except to try before something else happens. Family issues have improved, but still not great; the rest has just beaten me down. Sigh. Still, this actually helps keep me going, so I hope to contribute this year. I'll keep you posted.

Maggie, I'll send you email with my character selection to make sure they're okay.

Wow! Love that last year's calendar is trending; and it looks amazing!

I have to admit this year's calendar was worth the wait.  I honestly think this is some of the best work in a long while.  Everyone seems to have really put a lot of time, effort, and detail into each and every illo.  I'm sorry we couldn't use all of the images, they were all so amazing.  Great work everyone!

Yes, first and foremost, thank you very much, Maggie, for continuing to do this.  I am certain it is a lot of time and effort, often seeming pointless.  We love you!

I have two possible suggestions.  I believe I've suggested "ACTION" before, but I'll offer it up again.  This can be anything provided the images are not static - it must have ACTION in it!  The other idea is "CONFRONTATION" meaning depicting the encounter between A and B.  It can be something like Cutter confronting Winnowill or something less negative such as when Savah met Timmain.  I believe it was Treefox that did the illo of the GoBack deer suddenly CONFRONTED by the dense growing green of the Wolfriders' forest home.  When Gobacks met the Wolfriders (or conversely the Sun Villagers).  So, both remain general enough that the artists would have a broad range of ideas and characters to work from.  I suppose "Encounters" as a title would work just as well.

Of the currently provided list, I like Long Friendships, Seasons (but might be limiting since there are really only four), Villains and Heroes (although that seems a little close to Contrasts), and Cliffhangers.  I could manage Comedy after remembering an idea my mother had for Yule.  Really should draw that one anyway - too damn funny!

(Has it really been almost two weeks? I can't apologize enough. Been crazy on my end, but it looks like it MIGHT settle down enough for me to crawl out from under all the stupidity)

Stormhunt and Runedance collapse into the unaffected ground and enjoy a good thorough roll, partly to remove the stench, partly just for the sheer pleasure of it. Also might help to mask their own scents to navigate the strange land more concealed. After a few moments, Runedance decides to rise and check out the others. Stormhunt shakes the dirt and debris vigorously before joining her wolf friend Solstice beside the others.  The two bonds share the events directly with each other and await the next challenge.

Stormvex sends calm and soothing emotions to Stormsong (argh! All these Storms! Wait, I love storms...), but does not interfere with his choice. He continues to gently and carefully pour his concoction into the wolf hoping it will help him. He briefly glances at Runedance and updates him before sending to Marut to do the same and ask about Laluna.  **I can send Runedance over to see if he can help, but I doubt he could offer much other than standing around,** he adds.

(Jeb, I am so very sorry to hear about your issues. You don't have to go into any detail; we have all been in situations that prevent us from considering anything else until the situations are resolved. Hope you can return very soon, but until then, take care of yourself and hang in there. Runedance will miss Moondrop! Perhaps Moondrop can simply vanish during all the crazy activity? She can return easily with Berit's great ideas later on. I myself have been very distracted, but I MIGHT be given a bit of a reprieve in the next few weeks)

Solstice whines and nudges Stormsong. She can feel him slipping away and isn't sure if she should call him back. It is "The Way" to surrender and let go under the right circumstances, but is this circumstance the right one? She sends to him, calling, but not demanding him to answer or return.  The choice is his, and she will respect it.

Stormhunt snarls with annoyance and finally releases the vile prey.  She rubs her eyes and face in the ground, water, snow, or not.  She growls and paws at her mouth to remove some of the rotten taste.  She briefly thinks anything large and strange must not be good eats around these parts.  She suddenly felt homesick for the dense, hot jungle. She'd rather be shedding and panting than sick.

Stormvex is about to answer Marut when he calls out for help for Laluna.  He hesitates when he receives a send from Solstice and notices her hovering sadly over Stormsong. He looks back at the elves surrounding the blue haired healer and takes a deep breath.  He rushes to the wolves, since no one was checking on them.  Perhaps he could help them and then race to Laluna's side.  **Marut, the wolves need tending; I'll be there in a moment. I can only herbal heal but I might have something that can help,** he quickly sends to the grey haired male.

Solstice licks her bond's hand.  **Help? His pack calls but he not decided.**  Stormvex understood and reaches for his own pack of personal items.  He pulls some herbs and healing liquids Sona had given him. He tried to remember which was which and what did what.  He mixes a few to make a compound to combat what might be the poison(s) and pours it carefully down Stormsong's throat so he won't choke on it.  **Carefully, friend,** he encourages.  **I am Stormvex, Solstice's bond elf. This may help. Rest. We will wait for you.**

Runedance rolls on the ground away from the goo left by the strange beast to clean himself a bit.  He grins, feeling the joy of the simple pleasure.  He hears the commotion of the others and stops long enough to assess if he's interested or not.  He certainly was no healer, and there were several elves attending the fallen.  He takes note of his friend and their bonds.  Rising, he goes over to them.  He is about to suggest something when he sees Stormhunt.  He walks to her, grinning.  **Just didn't know when to give up, eh, puffball?  Hang on, I gotcha,** he grabs his own pack and returns with a flask.  **Drink it; it'll help.**

Mixed results.  Solstice (2...well, shit), Stormhunt (6 - hurray!), Stormvex (5 - well, maybe Stormsong has a chance!), Runedance (5 - suck it, evil thing)

Stormhunt attempts to bring the evil bunny down, her initial failure making her determined all the more.  (Assuming she gets the same taste), she realizes this thing has a taste that even in her most starved state is inedible. Growling and snarling, she angrily swipes at it with all four paws and bites at the ears, hoping there is some part that she can latch onto without a repulsive taste.  It would be such a waste of meat (if there is any to be had!) and energy to merely give up and let go.

Solstice immediately releases this nasty thing and spits out whatever is in her mouth.  To further get rid of the rot, she paws at her jaws before using whatever snow or water that may be present to clear out her mouth.  **Yech!** she open sends.  **Bad! Rotten meat!**  Once she has cleared the rancid flavor from her mouth, she moves to Stormsong's side.  **Help?** she offers, sniffing at him.  **Hurt?**  She is not sure what has happened with him, but checks for injuries.  The stench coming off of him is worse than anything she's scented before, but death and decay is something she has experienced before.  She tries to send reassurance.

Stormvex snarls with disgust at this thing.  His mind reels with the thoughts and images Moondrop had sent to him earlier about another strange beast that wasn't what it appeared at first.  Clearly, whatever the "bad thing" is was still around.  Was it even there?  Had their minds been tricked and deceived so badly?  He steps back and quickly considers his next move.  **Runedance,** he locksends to his friend, **take this thing out, if it really exists, and let's put an end to this!**

Runedance shakes off the goo he had been sprayed with, mildly annoyed.  He could swear Stormhunt had rolled in something just as stinky before...at least once.  **I'm on it,** he replies before nocking an arrow.  How could he suggest this thing wasn't there?  Clearly it was, and he smelled enough to remind everyone it was.  He launches arrows into the beast, focusing on lethal points, until it stops.

Okay, I don't think Stormvex needs a roll here, so:  Runedance (6), Stormhunt (3 - uh-oh), Solstice (6).  Why can't I get these sixes any other time?!

Stormhunt sinks her teeth further and further into the neck, the blood only making her hungrier and craving more. She wraps herself around the bunny, using her weight to bring it down. She lives for this!

Solstice attempts to hamstring the other leg to prevent it from kicking or clawing. She still wasn't sure of this strange beast, but it certainly seemed like a bunny.  And bunnies made good eats. Solstice's tail seemed to stand straight and wag slightly with delight. She too felt the wildness of the hunt. Swiftly, she reaches up and grabs at the haunch, yanking at the white fluff to get to the meat below.

As far as Stormvex is concerned, it was time to end this. Even strange, mutant animals deserved better. Knowing where the heart would be on a normal hare, he aims for the same area, avoiding the bonds and other elves.

Runedance grins widely and manically. **Finally!** he locksends to Stormvex and the bonds. **Something other than blabbing!** Grasping his sword, he launches for the bunny's back to slice the spinal cord.

(Looks like bunny's done for: Stormvex (6), Solstice (5), Runedance (6), Stormhunt (4) - the die gods smile upon me!)

(This happens in every game, in every jointly written story. Sometimes, things get so very slow. Since it's your game, I think the decision is yours to make, but 4 days wait should be okay; if a character is critical in a scenario, maybe a bit longer. At this stage, and it's only from my own perspective, our characters are separated enough that your continuing shouldn't interfere with anyone else. Maybe it will encourage the "silent" to reply, maybe players are waiting to see what happens to make a comment. Again, only my opinion. You know I'm lurking about and am patient...sort of.)

Stormvex is about to reply when the scream went out and the killer bunny appeared. He is clearly startled by it - how could he or Solstice not detect it beforehand?  No matter, he grabs his halberd and races toward the snowy white opponent.  Until he understood what this was about, distance seemed a better option.  **Solstice, Stormhunt, distract!  Neck or tail!**  He recalls the memory from Moondrop of the strange beast that turned into something ordinary and common.  Could this be the same situation?  He keeps his senses wide open to detect anything possible; was this another of the mountain's mysteries?

Solstice howls eagerly but not so sure about this thing.  But, food was food.  Briefly she wondered if Stormsong would be joining in.  She races to inspect for any and all weaknesses, and to possibly run it to exhaustion if need be.

Runedance is equally startled.  He was ready and eager to hunt, and now dinner serves itself!  **Woo-hoo!** he open sends as he charges with Stormhunt at his side, his sword firmly gripped in his hand.  A bow would work better, but not on such a large animal.  He needed something he could control more effectively...and it would be more fun this way, anyway.  **Food for all!** Stormhunt sends, nearly drooling at the thought of so much meat.  She wasn't concerned in the least where it came from or why it was so large (or fierce), but much like her bond elf, food was food!

Okay, not joking here, I rolled for each four:  Stormvex (6), Solstice (4), Runedance (4), Stormhunt (6).  How weird is that?  LUCKY, but odd.

Stormvex locksends to Wander.  **I do not wish you dead or injured, but if you are capable of causing such harm when you are under another influence, what is to prevent you from turning on us again?  YOU may not want to, but what of your influence?  We may be able to help you, so you can be free of this...thing...and perhaps join us so no one must worry.  Consider, you might also encounter others that you harm without knowledge.  Do you want this?  We might be able to help you or find an answer in the mountain.  We have invited you to do so.**  Stormvex feels for the sickly one, but at the same time, he does not want him to sneak up on them later.

He quickly locksends to Marut, **I'm not doing anything to save my own hide, but trying to convince him he needs help.  He attacked us under influence, what if he attacks others?  He attacked his own holt, he could do so again to another holt.  He doesn't seem to do or want to do it himself, so maybe the answers lie in the mountain or perhaps we can try again to help him.  If he leaves now, nothing is changed, nothing is solved, no one is safe.**

Runedance shrugs.  **Sounds good to me,** he casually open sends.  **Come on, let's go check out this creepy mountain and get in some hunting.**  He raises an eyebrow in amusement at Woodfox and Stormhunt.  **Careful, ol' Gruff wouldn't hesitate to make a meal of you.  It's not like you can climb a tree to get away from her.**  He then shifts his weapons and starts off.  **I'm off; come on, Stormhunt.**

Stormhunt snorts at Woodfox and brushes happily against her elf friend as the pair start toward the mountain.  Runedance glances back.  **Coming, Moondrop, or do you want to bother with these yappy elves?  Stormvex, catch up when you're bored with this lot.**

(Has Marut exited the tower with Laluna?)

Stormvex watches Laluna and her progress with Wander.  Perhaps Wander would listen more to Laluna in a more intimate setting rather than in the company of unknowns.  He remains unconvinced of any progress with them, but all he could do is watch.

**Well?** Runedance poses open to those closest to him.  **Are we going or what?  If this isn't our fight, let's go find one of our own.**

Stormvex doesn't take his eyes of the events unfolding between the healer and Wander.  **It may become our fight should he disappear now but resurface again when our backs are turned.  You want to go up against a powerful, unstable rockshaper surrounded by rocks?**

Runedance shrugs.  **Then you distract the others and I'll take him out.**

Stormvex ignores Runedance's comments.  He open sends to those around him, **Let's see how this plays out and then we head to the mountain.  If he refuses anything and keeps walking away, we better make it up that mountain and find out what's going on before he flips and attacks.  Keep watching your back, and the others' as well.**

The bonds also seem attentive to the scene before them but make no attempt to interfere.  Stormhunt growls.  **Elf talk and talk. We go; hunt.**

Runedance grins broadly.  **Finally, someone that makes sense.** He reaches over and scratches her ruff.  **Come on, we can hunt while we head for the mountain, find what the problem is, and deal with it.**

Stormvex and Solstice exit the tower quickly and attempt to place themselves between Runedance and Stormhunt.  Runedance took immediate notice of Wander as he sadly marched beyond the tower's entrance. He had promised Stormvex no killing unless...and damn if he didn't hope there would be an "unless." Runedance grasped his sword and let his eyes sear into Wander; he could feel his teeth grind as he thought to himself, 'Oh, please, just twitch...look at me...something…come on, give me an excuse...'

Stormvex positioned himself between the two before Wander had much of a chance to do anything, even if he had wanted to. Stormvex could see the sickly elf was more lost in his own thoughts than the world around him. Whew. **I said no,** he warned Runedance in a locksend. **This isn't our battle, and it isn't up to us to finish it. If he should attack, fine, but no provoking!**

Runedance growled and glanced at Woodfox. **Like most of them. Look, if there's no fun to be had, let's find some. I'm getting bored.**

Stormvex sighed and looked at Woodfox.  **You okay?**  He then notices Moondrop.  **And you? You okay?**

**It may be up to you, then,** Stormvex locksends. **He knows you best and likely trusts you more than anyone else here. You need to stop him and see if you can encourage him to be healed or travel with us to the mountain to put an end to his instability. I will try and help, I'm certain Marut will as well, but I do not foresee him accepting any word from one of us.  If he stays, he could be dangerous, if he banishes himself, he could be even worse. We have no way of knowing when he will change again, and what he would be willing to do in that state.**

Holts / Re: Elfquest fanart RPG 2 - the land of ice

Stormvex glances at Marut and locksends to both him and Laluna.  **No matter what we do, we run the risk of this one flipping on us again. If he walks out, he could easily turn up again and do damage. You do not regard killing necessary, but what options do we have? We could try to heal him now when he's agreeable, let him go and run the risk, take him to the mountain and see if he can be healed or get rid of whatever's affecting him, or kill him so he doesn't come back to haunt us. We better decide now.**

Solstice growls lowly as Wander moves past. She remembers what he did, although is scent is different. She can feel the tension among the elves and is on edge as a result.

Runedance whirls toward the caves but pauses. **What's going on in there? Wanna go caving or just hang around with this lot? Come on, let's have some fun!** he locksends to Stormvex.

Stormvex sends what has transpired so far with him and tells him if he sees Wander to not attack him. A decision must be made.  Runedance is all for just putting Wander out of everyone's misery. There, problem solved.  Still, he relents...barely.  **Fine,** he sighs.  **But if the little god so much as raises his arm, I'm going for it.**

Stormhunt appears restless and glares at Woodfox. She considers a quick snack, but maybe hunting around the caves would prove more entertaining...and less annoying.

Lesser known characters sounds great to me, and I have ideas already.  In fact, some of the ones I'm considering were never given a name (as far as I know).  When you're ready, Maggie, I can send my ideas/choices and get started.  Things on my end will be getting messy in a very few short months, so the sooner I can get started, the greater the chance is I can participate.

And Ayoooooooah and Welcome, Heidi!

(Great to have you back, Berit! Just take it easy and focus on yourself!)

Stormvex focuses on Wander. **It's true you changed and attacked us, but considering what you are capable of and you were a chieftain, what would you consider if you were in our position? A powerful rockshaper bent on domination in an environment with nothing but rocks and random stragglers, would you leave this person and turn your back on him? It wouldn't be out of the question that person could turn and attack when the rest weren't aware of his presence. Think as a chieftain; what would you do?**  He wasn't fond of the idea of taking Wander with them, but turning their backs on him sounded even worse.  Laluna couldn't stay alone with him, that didn't end well, he sure as hell wasn't going to stay behind, and Mehadrin wasn't even worth considering.

Runedance's grin turns to a dark sneer as he regards Woodfox briefly, his hand on his sword. **Keep being useless and you'll learn how I do things...and just how "cuddly-wuddly I am.** Quickly he returns his attention to Moondrop and open sends, **Come on, let's go caving!**

Runedance's eyes widen with mischief, a broad grin stretches his lips. **A cave with a door? Maybe there are trolls! Finally, SOMETHING to do! Let's go!** His send was open and excited. Stormhunt grunted slightly; here they go again...and she was ready for it.

Stormvex hesitated.  Sounded like a most entertaining offer, but he was worried about the healer and this strange sickly god.  He worried leaving Laluna on her own with Wander, considering the last time she was in that situation.  He also was concerned if Wander was a powerful rockshaper with this strong an instability, he would be capable of almost anything, including collapsing the cave while they were there.  He debated turning Runedance loose on him, but thought the better of it.  Scratching Solstice at the ruff, he sent to Laluna and Wander.  **Can this one be moved?**  Maybe having him ride Solstice or Stormhunt to have him accompany them; better to have your enemies out where you can see them.  And wasn't so sure if Wander was friend or foe, since his own experiences were quite negative.

Stormvex also studies Wander closely, trying to make a determination if the elf knows of his actions or not.  He waits to add any further information, basing it on how Wander reacts and how sincere he is. He watches Laluna closely as well. He doesn't know her and he studies her to understand her better. He hesitates equally as he does not feel this is his battle; he entered late and doesn't fully appreciate all that has happened, nor all the players.

Solstice enters after making her way through the door and settles next to Stormvex. She sees Wander awake and moving about, a snarl comes over her. **Threat!** she sends to Stormvex. **Attack?**

**Hold,** he replies directly. **He may not be the same now as he was. Wait.** Both elf and wolf pause.

**Have you seen me climb a tree?** Runedance challenges Woodfox. He gives a wave of dismissal. **You said it, Moondrop: yap, yap, yap.** His hand slides away from his sword and briefly pets his leopard.  **Come on, furball,** he encourages, **Let's see if Stormvex has stirred up something interesting.**

At Moondrop's question, he pauses and turns to her. **Far from it,** he answers, a bit confused. **'Thought this was yours! You're not from here, either?** A gleam flashes in his eyes.  **Seeking adventure as well?**

Runedance's expression toward Moondrop changes as she explains the situation to him. He suddenly found her more appealing...

**Pretty boy in the sheer poncho? I think a hard stare would cause him harm, although using him as a punching bag would at least make him useful,** he replied before glancing at Woodfox.  **This one isn't much better. I wish I had done this, it'd be less humiliating. The idiot thought he could climb a tree and the tree caught his lip. At least the pale loser put up some sort of a fight. Well, should I just put the pale one out of our misery?** Runedance's lips curled slightly into a grin as his hand curled around the hilt of his sword. He didn't understand any of this; if the guy was a threat, just get rid of him and move on to the next life challenge.

Stormhunt had enough and plopped down, sending Woodfox crashing onto his butt. Moondrop could swear there was a snicker coming from the furball.

(Sorry you're having health issues, Berit. Take care of yourself and don't worry about us. I too have to apologize for the delay; work has dominated my life from having to prep at the last second for an inspection from the regulatory agency. Since I'm the only one, it was all up to me, and if I failed, we could be shut down. BUT I ACED IT!)

Stormvex briefly glanced at Moondrop as she left. He certainly couldn't disagree with her; he felt a foreboding sense in this place and the strange elf was dangerous no matter if he was possessed or had moments where he was a different person. Then there was the equally strange forest underneath this walled trap...there was nothing in this "adventure" that seemed to offer a positive outcome.

He very quickly turned to Wander and carefully observed every movement, every twitch, every expression on the pale elf's face. How would he react to Moondrop's accusations and Laluna's behavior? **Are you able to put him to sleep should we need to?** he locksent to Laluna. **Nod if yes.**

Runedance rushes up to the tower and encounters Moondrop and slows slightly. Her expression reminded him of being denied a good fight. **Is it over already?** he sent almost nervously. Stormhunt paused in the doorway and watched the elves, her muscles down her back twitching. The elf on her obviously had no clue how to behave or ride and she was ready to throw him. Maybe she could make a meal of him...nah, his scent was too sickeningly sweet.

Solstice ran up to the group outside the tower and debated what to do next. Why were they just standing there? Shouldn't they be with her friend? Eventually, she worked her way passed them to be by Stormvex's side.

(I've no idea how I didn't see your previous post, Jeb!)

Stormvex also looks to the ground.  **We also best be cautious of the floor.  If there is some underground dwelling, there is no telling what might be lurking there. Anyone other than that one a rockshaper?** He then turns slightly in the direction of the door.  **Solstice, return as fast as you can. We're going to need your help.  And yes, you can bring your new friend with you.  Two sensitive noses and four ears are better than one.**  He then locksends to Runedance.  **Hurry back, there may be a fight in a very short moment.**

Runedance lights up with excitement.  **Here,** he sends quickly to Woodfox before grabbing and slapping him atop Stormhunt's back.  **We're in a hurry.  SIT!**  Both speed as fast as their legs can carry them.  **Stormhunt, this may turn out to be fun after all!**  The silvery white feline snorts with a bit of excitement and races ahead of him.

Solstice immediately whips her head in the direction of her elf friend.  **I come.** She turns but then looks back at Stormsong.  **Friend calls, needs us. Come with!** she sends along with images, scents, and the urgency she felt from Stormvex before charging toward the tower.

(Yavia, it's possible, but a lot of the times, it is up to the gamemaster regarding how far one can send as well as the strength of one's abilities. Plus, there might be something blocking our sending [insert melodramatic music here], so it is gamemaster's choice. And the luck of the die) (The work thing got me so stressed out that I locked myself out of my house and car, had to get someone to come and rescue me. My boss was so casual about it and said it's happened before, no big deal. You can't imagine how stunned I was. Whew!!!!!!!!)

Stormvex closely observes the elves as they interact. Initially, he assumed they were members of the same holt, but it seems that may not be true. Obviously, they had been traveling together for some time as they were comfortable with each other, but it reminded him much of his home holt: wanderers banding together.  He thanks Marut graciously at the offer of sharing a meal. He considers offering to hunt with the grey haired male, but it seems Marut might prefer to do so alone.

"Runedance? No," he answers casually. "I'm sorry he might have been too forward and insensitive towards you. Offending him is pretty hard to do; he has the attention span of a salted slug." Stormvex was in no mood to cause any discern among these elves. Whatever he felt making him uneasy in this valley might be having the same impact on them. In that case, they would likely need to work together to survive.

The mention of Runedance causes Stromvex to look around. 'Now where did that fluffbunny run off to?  I swear it's like cubsitting with that one.' Locksending, he turns his attentions to his friend. **Runedance, are you harassing the others again?**

Runedance rolls his eyes again at Woodfox in annoyance. What was he thinking to get his lips ripped on a tree? Could this one even CLIMB a tree? He heaved a sigh. It was likely this one would need help; not much of a survivalist. How had he managed to live this long? **Come on,** he grumbled. **Let's get you back to the others.** Taking his blade, he slices a strip of leather from his pants and hands it to Woodfox. **Here, press this hard against your lips and try not to blab, you'll only make it bleed more.**

Upon hearing his friend, he tilts his head toward the tower. **No, I'm patching one up. AND IT WASN'T MY FAULT! We're headed back. I think this one needs help. Soft, this lot.** Runedance was so used to a rough and tumble life that he often forgot others did not grow up or experience life as he had. A wound like this would be more of an embarrassment than painful.

Stormvex turns to Laluna.  "I think one of your own will be needing help. Runedance is on his way back here with him." He tilts his head when she mentions she has never tried to merge her abilities with another to strengthen them. "We can try to merge when things are quiet enough, perhaps momentarily?"

At that moment, Wander stammers awake and Stormvex devotes his attention to him, studying him very closely. Friend or foe? He backs up slightly, assuming Wander might be triggered into some sort of fight or flight with a stranger looming over him. He locksends to the those with him (Moondrop, Marut, Laluna, Mehadrin), **Nod your agreement; allow him to come around? Shake your head if we should knock him out until we sort this out. I will abide by your decision.**
