Vaya goes forth
by Startear
My Secret Santa Gift to Moonmoss, on the Scroll of Colors forum.
She requested either an image or fanfic about Vaya proving herself, to herself. A fun challenge, really, but very challenging. After all, often there are small things that makes one feel that one has proved themselves. I used most of my time thinking how to fill it. Eventually, I managed to come up with an idea and motive.
Okay, so what is going on, is that Vaya was scouting, sometime before the Go-Backs were becoming permanent, but still an increasingly aching thorn in the sides of the trolls. Her mother and some of her warriors had gone hunting. Successfully, and they had just come in line of visibility. Then, they were attacked by trolls. Vaya, quickly warned the others, and they rode out to assist Kahvi and her hunting party. Due to quick assistance, few elves died that day, and much later, Vaya got a party of scouts. (As mentioned in OQ.)

Oh wow, this is awesome. The mood and colors! Setting and back story are perfect for Vaya. Love the deer, the sparkling snow and the determined expression of Vaya. Well, I do love Vaya anyway.

Haha, I just could not resist making the snow sparkle! It is one of my favorite things about winter. When either sunlight, moonlight or light from a lamppost hit the snow, and it sparkles. That, and when snow falls heavily late at night, just standing under it. Not to mention the cold nights, when the moon is full, and the sky a rich dark blue. Yes, I love this season. And who doesn't love Vaya?

The colors of winter are just fantastic here! you can almost smell the fresh cold air... and the fur looks simply wonderful here! I cannot wait to see more go-back art from you!...

Aww, thank you Berit! So glad that the colors of winter came through, especially the cold smell. Everyone thinks I am crazy when I tell them that coldness gives a sense of smell, but it does! And in the Go-Backs area it has to be smellable, because I suspect their temperatures drop way below - 30 C (which is the lowest I have experienced, because I live south east, and temperatures haven't dropped further when I've been there.)
(Reminds me, I have to draw my favorite Go-Back ruffians quite soon.) |

Huh! how weird that some people don't know that cold air has a different scent than warm air... here it's normal knowledge! and it's sort of a weird thing... I've lost my sense of smell years ago, but that, is still something I do smell... Yay! I'd love to see more Go-backs!...
