2010 Fan Art Calendar:  JANUARY

I found out they were putting all of Elfquest online I began reading it nonstop. A lot of it was new material since not everything was printed where I live.  One of my favourite elves was Kahvi, hardheaded an tough with a sometimes unexpected soft side, so I picked her.   I shows Kahvi and her wolf peacefully looking out over her home.

I like this one a lot - it has a sense of wild remoteness - which is perfect for Kavhi!

I think I connected, emotionally, the most with this out of any of the drawings.  The way you feel on one of those cold but sunny days in the winter, when there's a fresh coat of snow on the ground...add to that what she must have been feeling at this time...it's irresistible to me.  Guess I miss "real" winters after a decade or so in California. *wistful smile*

Oooh! This is so much nicer in a larger view. Kahvi's presence is captured so nicely. Strong and yet having a softer and maybe (especially in later stories) even a wistful side to her.
I like that the wolf has a sort of shaggy look, too!

I really like the contrast here between the cold, stark setting, and the warmth of the interaction conveyed by the way the wolf is curled over and behind Kahvi, as if she could be leaning against him.   Also, I really liked the touch of the slightly-golden clouds in the sky, breaking up the otherwise-cold background.  There's a nice realism to that, the idea of the reflection of a rising or lowering sun; but also, I like how it brings some warmth into the landscape.

It's nice to see Kahvi's peaceful side, simply because we don't see it often. And I love how you did the mountains and trees in the background.

Kahvi really does seem to be at peace with herself and the surroundings, if only for the moment. This also seems to be a perfect setting for her - cold with snow on the ground, but it's just right for her. The wolf at her side appears scruffy and attempting to find his place as she is, but for the moment, there is contentment. Hope to see more of your work!
