Battle Worn

One-Eye fighting mountain trolls. Except in my version, he lives. Suck it, canon!
So... this is kind of old school. I've actually had this sketch in rough form for several years and I kept holding onto it because I wanted to eventually do something with it. So here we are.

So cool! The red works wonders here. As c/c I would have wanted to see something in the background; the flat colour makes me think of a wall. But you've captured One-Eye's emotion perfectly!

Oh, heck, this really is "old school." Brings back so many memories of cutting that dang Zip-a-Tone over an inked image. We are really dating ourselves that we know how to shade with that stuff. Do they even make it anymore? Did you really use it to create this or is it just made to look that way? Publishing sure has come a long way in a short time, eh?
Wonderful image, though. There is something to be said in favor of simplicity in the tones to bring a lot of impact to the image. |

LOVE THIS! As I really like all your One-Eye stuff -- I am a big One-Eye fan anyway, so I can definitely get behind your alternate version of canon. The inking technique here is great too, and wow, does the Zip-a-tone take me back! (I do not miss it, personally.)

This IS awesome! The composition, the Zip-a-tone, everything. His expression is believably determined. You don't mess with One-Eye! He really looks like a wolf ready to attack.

Thanks, guys! I drew it entirely digitally in Manga Studio and used MS's zip-a-tone effect on purpose (just for something different). Then I took it into Photoshop to add the splash of color (pun intended).
