Ember Hunting
by Treefox
And yet another request from the Scroll. The request was for Ember with emphasis on her hair. So I drew a happy Ember with loads of red hair. As it was spring when I drew this I included some spring flowers and fresh green. Another pic that is wrong in so many ways but was really fun to draw. Actually inking it took away some of its original goodness. Oh, why do I suck at inking?

Yeah, the hair is amazing. In a way I wish the picture was more a closeup, with the hair getting more focus. But, well, her outfit is pretty damned cool too, so I wouldn't want to miss that.
Oh, and your rocks - um...rock. |

Once again I really appreciate all this feedback! Thank you! The scanner did not exactly help the hair getting into focus, the whole pic seems somewhat washed-out. And thanks for the compliment on the rocks (eh, not a cocktail, you know what I mean). I think it's the first time anyone ever commented on them.

I absolutely love this illo! The coloration in it, attention to background details, the splash of water coming up around her foot, and the movement involved in the illo are all just breathtaking!
I personally love her simple leather outfit with the feather decorations. She looks like she's off and on the hunt...or just for some fun after a long, boring winter. And Ember is one of my favorite original characters (along with Nightfall and Vaya); you did a perfect job! |

Yeah, Ember always reminds me so much of a childhood friend... they really have the same personality. So, I somehow feel personally attached to her. Besides, I do like the outfit here, even though it is heavily inspired by her teenage outfit in Hidden Years. I loved that one!

I love it! And yea, I have the same problem with colouring in. Sometimes the pic just stays better as black and white.

I love how much detail the background has, it really looks like cohesive, flushed out piece. But I do wish there were a few more "resting" areas for the eyes.

Wow, I never would have though that this would be one of the most commented on pictures by me!
@ mewmewchacha: Thank you so much! I do love to color my pictures! I just don't like to ink them... @ joselle: You see, I have the problem often. I get carried away when painting backgrounds. It's so much fun that I keep adding details until it's actually too much. I am sort of torn between making the piece artistically better or having more fun while drawing... as you can see the fun part often wins. But I so, so appreciate critique like this! Thanks! |

Yeah, this really is my absolute favorite and beloved Ember outfit! So I am always happy to see new visions of it. This was my take on it. Drawing Ember is fun! I like her strong colors, bright red hair against brown skin. And those blue eyes on top!

She does look very light-hearted and joyful. The scent of late spring is in the air. And life seems to be fair and fine. It creates a longing in me for better times.
I really like the joyful dynamic pose and the colour combination. |
