Thanks for the kind words! Your idea for incorporating Clearbrook's braid is already there, it's basically just impossible to make out yet.
And I hope the falcon will turn out alright! And there will definitely be more birds along this portrait journey. ;D

It seems I might be able to work on my book cover assignment and next portrait simultaneously. :)
So here's my still veeeery rough sketch for Scouter. His portrait is pretty straightforward. Him scouting with a sharp-eyed Falcon on his shoulder.

Whaaat??? These look so professional! I love how making them has given you joy. I love Morris and his EXCELLENT stache! And the slightly annoyed cake! You're so creative and talented in many fields!

Wow man! These are excellent! All done with water colors? You're also great with traditional media!

Marl, I totally missed this thread!   :shocker
Wow, so many great studies! Lovely pencil work. My favorite is the guy on the train. So lively and expressive. Thank you for sharing!

Aw, so the situation even in the AU is quite dire, so she decides to leave Blue Mountain. The Preservers are too funny! They are perfectly Perserver-like. :D

Aww, thanks Saree! That's very motivating to keep this up. Let's see if I truly can endure. ;D This project will take years...

My sixth portrait is done! Going to take a break to do the calendar entry. But already planning the next one, which is going to be Scouter. I've got some good ideas for elements from Dewshine, Tyleet, Windkin and One-Eye. Not quite sure how I'll put Clearbrook in there... Maybe in a similar fashion to Treestump? If you guys have any ideas, I'd be very happy to hear them.

Oooh thanks for the reading tips! I'd like to look into Nordlys!!

To answer the question: I kept the most precious of my plushies. They were and are so dear to me. Somehow the connection is stronger than to any of the plastic toys I owned. I still even have the plushie fish I received right after my birth from a family friend. It's name is Blubb. :)

What is your favorite means of travel (e.g. car, train, bicycle...)?

Man, Amberfox so so sorry to hear about your family issues. Having so much work and family issues on top is a lot to bear. Hopefully some issues will improve in the future. So happy you still want to join the calendar group!

Thank you kindly! Dewshine is wearing a hair clip with Tyleet's wolf ornament as a tribute to her lifemate and to her being a Wolfrider. Her cloak is going to be not only lined with her usual feather decoration, but also with Blue Mountain hawk feathers to show the connection to Windkin and Tyldak. I hope it gets a bit clearer here:

Phew, coloring this is going to take a while. But I'm looking forward to it. I'm going on a two week vacation on Sunday, so she has to wait a little bit.

Thank you, Maggie! Ohhh, I love that portfolio. That's good reference, I need to go and check that out again. Wendy's ink work was so so amazing back then.

Used my time on the train today to make a first sketch. I think this could actually work! She's surely got a lot of accessories now...

As you can see I used my reference picture a LOT again...

Afke, thanks for much for weighing in on this! I really appreciate the advice.
And I'm completely on your page about the axe in a necklace... I want to give her Scouter's necklace, but I do have an idea how to incorporate the axe! Man, Dewshine will have a LOT of elements in her portrait... You axe necklace sounds interesting, btw!  :o

Guys, I really need your advice on my next portrait. It's going to be Dewshine. My immediate initial idea was to make it a profile, pretty much like this one:

What do you think? Would this show too little of her face and gorgeous eyes? Should I stick to this (and the super difficult perspective)? Should I choose a more conventional angle? I am unsure...

Her companion animal will be a songbird. :) Of course, I'm thinking Nightingale. Any suggestions from your side?
I'm planning on including accessories from Scouter, Tyleet, Tyldak and Windkin. Should I add something from Treestump?
So many questions...

Thanks for the tips! Don't know if wormwood would be too bitter, but it sure would be awesome for my digestion, I need to check it out. And I'm already looking forward to make tea from fresh herbs again! Still the best. Yarrow is growing in our garden as well, should try that, too!

Okay, art question: do you make rough sketched for your art before you start the actual sketch of your final pic? Or do you dive straight into the real thing?

I think I haven't posted any pictures online anymore since about 3 years ago... around the time my burn-out really became a thing, which seemed to have coincided with the rise of generative ai (the two are unrelated though). Just the thought that everything has simply been stolen and put into those machines to be (ab)used, made me feel very discouraged. I have shared my work online since 1998 and right now I feel like I am... just done with it. At least for now.

That's so sad, I'm really sorry. I so appreciate that you still choose to spend time with us here.

July, for several reasons. I may be able to finally schedule a hysterectomy, and I will have lived here long enough to possibly sell this place and get rid of some debt in the process.

That sounds so good! Keeping my fingers crossed for that!

Answer: Singing. I sang a lot as a kid (badly) and then when I became an adult, I didn't sing for quite some time. Eventually started singing again and it gives me so much joy! And my singing is not as horrible as it used to be! :lol

Q: Pfff, something weird: any tips for a herbal tea with a really strong taste? I like herbals teas, but they often taste so bland...

I'm happy that you are still creative! If you're ready and willing to share somewhere, somehow, please, let us know! :love
The AI monsters are scary as f***...

To be completely honest, while my self-animal was mostly a wolf, it did change to large cats or dragons occasionally. ;)

Thanks for the tips on inking! Also neat that you are not only drawing digitally! I hope I can also draw a bit more traditionally this year and maybe follow your tips.

Q: What is one thing (physical, mental, social, etc) in your current life you want to release, and what would you welcome in its place?

My deadly terror of speaking in public. Even in front of small groups of people I even know. This fear took on a life of its own...In its place I would welcome the ability to focus on something.

Q: If you could live anywhere, what would your dream country be?

Ohhh, so you do still draw?? I wish I could check out your art somewhere, I miss it so much! Of course, I had to check out the artists you named. They are indeed very inspiring... *sighs* But at least I already knew Sam MacBratney of "Guess How Much I Love You". His style is so so fantastic!

Concerning what animal I would be, the answer is super boring. A wolf, of course. I has always been a wolf. Before Elfquest and after Elfquest.

Q: Another art question, fittung Foxeye's post: what did help you improve your inking?
