In BEST PURCHASE OF MY LIFE - Posted Jul 05, 2025
So these days one has to visit the venerable Oxford to obtain EQ books... ;-)
In Rogue's Challenge - Posted Jul 05, 2025
That's a rich background life. Zhantee looks like he's eating his fingers in excitement, Ekuar so dreamy and so much cheering and booing and whatnot.
Though I'd also ask to see the whole picture. The Go-Backs are (or at least pretend to be) hard-asses. They are (or want to be, or get raised to be) the great warriors in the icy realms. No remorse, no regret. No chance for the weak.
So yes, there was overreaction from Rayek's suide, due to extreme worries of having lost his mentor-near-father - after losing the child and witnessing the Go-Back's little respect for life. And one must also take into account that Rayek was over-charged with all these spirits.
And slapping people in the face? That's the way Kahvi likes to communicate with folks around her. It seems to be her way of showing a hard shell to everyone; hardness, being blunt, showing little to no empathy. Yeah, the child died, so what? (Besides, the child had not even died but she wanted to raise her alone and keep Rayek out. In some way, she achieved exactly that.)

You might want to ask Treefox about creating art while traveling. She's got some experience there. ^^
In Young Rayek and Leetha - Posted Jun 05, 2025
*squee* Aww!![]()
Rayek looks quite worried, while Leetah seems to be fully in healer-mode, confident that she'll be able to mend whatever is broken.
In Dewshine - Posted Apr 08, 2025
Awww! <3 This is really cute! That's a very good mix of colours, the soft surrounding green in the background, her pastel-like tones and the slightly intensive blonde, sparkling blue eyes that repeats more softly in the feathers. And such a cute bird!
Little hints to her connections with others... Treestump is spotted, in some indirect way Tyldak, though it could also be a bit Windkin-related, some wolvish element (Tyleet?), ah, Scouter... yes.
Very good work!

That's quite some effort, and something different from normal paper formats or screens. A wall and some other elements in it, obstacles, or things to incorporate in the image, and not your rectangular flat plane. It got really nice with the nightly tree-top or bushes and the characters sticking out.
In Treestump - Posted Feb 20, 2025
I wanted to comment on that one for some days now. He does look like some sort of cuddly golden teddy bear.
It's a warm-blond base with some nice contrasts thrown in, his sparkling eyes and the Clearbrook-ish scarf/brooch. And many elements of Rillfisher and Dewshine. I think this is a good rendition of him. Gentle, but also strong, ready to defend if necessary.

That sounds like a fine job: Professional tree hugger. ;-)

It is interesting to give that person a face now. So maybe a complete character can evolve from a background figure in the calendar image.
Edit: Well, elves are somewhat androgynous, aren't they? Some may have clear features, like Treestump (bulky and bearded), or the hourglass-shape and sometimes delicate limbs on some female elves in EQ. But who know, what brings each observer to a conclusion. There could also be expectation involved? Cognitive bias? Who knows.

Thank you! It's just a little sad the the colors came out dull and shifted in the printed version. I simply had to include the "AI-poison" as a little easter-egg, as there is so much misuse of computing capacity these days. Respectless skimming of all the real art on the net and then spamming the world with imagery generated by computers, and (often literally) selling this to people as "art".
In She Noticed with a Smile by jaRf - Posted Jan 11, 2025
Yes, he is in this rascal-phase of life. Well, if he ever really was (having to mature early; but maybe it also never really left him). I tend to overcrowd pictures often, I should try to have a more focused image one day.
You're right, Yavia, there is some detail to find, such as the no-AI-bottle (or his disabled arm, the image is supposed to be at that time).
It is good to read that the image brought some joy to the world.

Thanks, everyone!
Baking is making.
Heh, of course Rayek is doing it for little Leetah. Leetah wanted sweets and cake, so he's fetching it. (compare w. HY 9) And bread-lady is younger here, of course.
And I usually end up adding too much detail. But then e.g. I didn't want the walls of the hut to be just too plain, so I added more and more stuff, even that carpet beater, which was quite a pain.
And then I like to hide a few things here and there. Plus logical addition like the rodents near flour and grain. (And I already assume that much of the detail might vanish in the print. That lamp will hopefully "hit" exactly the hole in the calendar, later, and the spiral coil will be in the flower's planter.)
Happy to read that Leetah-baby is well received, I struggled a lot with her. Haven't really drawn babies so far, with all the different proportion and still keeping her recognizable.
In Keeping Filkers In Check by Katrina Joyner - Posted Jan 01, 2025
Filk? Strikes me as a form of folkish music with fantasy elements. Has there been something about it, lately? I only remember the discussion over the old ElfQuest filk recordings and possible re-issues (or rather not) thereof. Is she having a human community that fabulates over elves too much? Is there a symbolism with the blue ink / colour, the snowy trees? Anyway, she looks quite content with her doing.

It is interesting to see all the different ideas and styles; a bit abstract here, especially with the sunset and the labyrinth-great-egg-scrolls-like-shapes in it. It seems that Tyleet is enjoying some howling (rock) company while fixing the clothes.

I would not have thought that I'd ever label a troll so quickly as "gorgeous", but she turned out really well. He expression, the cooking, the pinkish light on her face, her glance to the side.
Well, Bearclaw, I think you're in for some of our best broth! But there he is, gambling as usual, oblivious to the meal that is prepared. She nearly looks like she's pondering if he'd make a good addition to the soup...
Very good work!
In A Moment of Stillness by Brandy Woods - Posted Jan 01, 2025
Very nice! First off, I was surprised to see Strongbow in the row of creators, but of course, preparing hunting equipment makes sense. I do like the surrounding a lot, the little tree with colourful leaves, the mossy tree / big branch Strongbow is resting upon, and of course his wolf-friend with his grey shape who rest comfortably near his elf-friend, knowing, that he is safe here.
And Strongbow has very distinct colours while the background is somewhat desaturated and blurry like a bokeh, which gives a good focus on him.

Ahaha! Aww, that is nice. Two-Edge looks so flattered! Ahdri is really putting her skills to full level here and she really seems to value him.
And here would be two creators in one image. Also, much achieved with relatively few tones.
In Shaping Brill's Crown by Startear - Posted Jan 01, 2025
That gloomy grotto is contrasting the working / looking elves well. I also like the different moods here, the jolly bystanding and observing and the focused, nearly strained working. And good to have some Wave-Dancers, too. So this is how they make jewellery and ornaments from corals. ^_^
In Creating a Community by Treefox - Posted Jan 01, 2025
Ah, Sorrow's End in creation! What a sight. The old days. Including pearl curtain!
And there are two kind of making at least, the finished structure of the house and the painting. I like the repeating waves here, both in Savah's sparkling cloth and also in the hair of the painter's elf.
It looks like she's really envisioning the village's growth with that gesture.
The colours are beautiful, vibrant, with the frontal contrast between Yurek and Savah but also the background and within the background, again.
By the way, I somehow like Savah's sandals. All very artsy and "sun-folkish" style.

Awww! Wolf so cute! The wolf has nearly cat-like qualities here. And Cutter seems to be, well, a little impatient? A bit desperate to get the threads braided? Good that he's got a caring mother! This is a very cute image and it does have a touch of humour!
