The mocking stars

"The stars mocked him, gleaming in the night sky and now eternally out of reach. Here they seemed cold, nothing but far-off lights that shone down on an even colder world."

High One Kaviq. He's very unlucky for a High One: He survived the bloodbath, but got hopelessly lost for several weeks before finding Timmain's group. Then he got abandoned when his hunting group had a violent run in with humans and was basically believed dead. He's a complete wreck when he's found by Chenah and Merheen some time later.

This is from my tumblr, so I'll replace it with a new one when I get back home.
I never settled on his color scheme and I'm doing everything in my power to not give him green eyes and red/orange hair. XD

I love this! Especially his terrified look and his necklace. * quietly starts searching for this on tumblr *

Ooh, yes!  Love this!  You do fantastic psychological studies of your characters.
Hmm.  What about pale violet hair and purple eyes, with gold metal, violet silk, and purple gems? Maybe golden skin with pale freckles?

You have always been one to never shy away from really leaning in hard on having such emotions on your drawings. Your characters have unmistakable reactions to what's around them and I read in another post that you like to throw your protagonists into nasty, dangerous situations. I'm with you on that as well! As it's been said so often, "Superman without kryptonite would be booooring!" Besides, it builds character, for better or for worse. Can't help but feel for poor Kaviq here, though, with all that he's been put through!

XD oh my thank you!
I've found out I really love writing characters dealing with trauma. High Ones have a ton of potential for trauma, but they tend to be completely ignored and the hit with the "and then they suffered for many years and then they died"-stick and I've never liked that. I always found Cutter's band of elves too boring and really limited, there's not much room to do anything in their era and it gets worse the further into the future you get in EQ.

High Ones are just my jam XD They could have so much character if people let them.

I do plan on putting up my High Ones' bios (because I have so many), I'm just not sure where to put it? They're in the Writer's Gallery right now.

I always went for natural colors for my elves (them having odd hair colors was kinda frowned upon back in the day, I think) Yionyi is the one who very close to having non normal hair color (it's supposed be iridescent and multihued)
I need to draw Kaviq a bit more, he'll come into color at some point.

Well, you could also say he's a very lucky High One! To have survived all that and still be here! I feel for him. I want to wrap him up in a blankie and give him a nice cocoa.
