Aaaand Tukteh too of course. This one is pretty close to a selfportrait (just very elfy), and I love it.
Anyway, hood off so you can see their hair, which is also their indoor self.

The Sunfolk seem to be the most artsy tribe, probably because they have known peace the longest. It is what draws me most to them (definitely not the climate, lol). So Tukteh is a wallpainter! Seemed fitting since my inspiration for their lovemate came from one of my wallpaintings. :D And since I have a ton of hobbies as well, they also dabble in clay and pottery (and paint the pottery for others?).

Most desert dwelling folk wear large airy garments that keep them cool, so that is what I wanted as well. Though I already noticed it is much harder to draw than the form-fittings clothes the Sunfolk mostly tend to wear.
Oh, and bright colours yes, because in what other tribe could I possibly afford to do so? ;D

Yay, more genderless elves!  I would love them just for that, but I also appreciate that they're an artist and hate the heat.  I like the style you're drawing them in, the strong lines and soft features, and the backgrounds in this and Okatay's portraits are just, WOW, perfect!  You managed to suggest the forms and atmosphere with a few silhouettes and touches of shading in just the right places.  I'm learning from you!

Well I've learned so many new things about myself in the past 10 years, I want to apply those findings to my characters as well. I'm rather jealous of one of my niblings, who has known early on that words that were used for them were incorrect (and basically every character they've created is nonbinary as a result). While I stumbled on for decades, not knowing why I felt off, until new words were introduced to me that I tried out, and it made me also realise the opposite; that if a word felt like it didn't feel right, then perhaps this meant it's incorrect!

And thanks. :D I am in awe with the details in your work, the storytelling; I often feel like I rush through things (my idea is on paper, that means I'm done!), so I definitely learn from you too!
For this one, well I just wanted to draw a portrait of Tukteh without the hood. It could've been backgroundless, but I didn't want to do that. Easiest way to keep the focus on the elf, is not inking lines in the background. Though I do see I forgot to erase the pencil lines in this picture...

Nibling is such a fantastic word.  English needs an equivalent gender-inclusive word for parent's sibling - aunkle is meh, ankle is difficult to use in a more serious context, and unt sounds just a bit rude.
Vocabulary and stories are SO important.  They literally save peoples' lives. Not many of us will influence as many people as Wendy Pini did, but we should still put our work out there.  There might be one more person who learns something important about themself that way.

I think it's wonderful that our art can also reflect and show how we evolved through the years as people. I think being truly comfortable with oneself is not easy and probably also an ever-changing thing. Tukteh looks so wonderful, I love everything about them! The eyes are so intense, there is a pensiveness about them. Beautiful skin color, great outfit and I am so in love with that hair style! Do you sport this hair style in real life too?

And to think English has such lovely genderneutral words in the first place, like cousin and sibling. Don't have these in Dutch sadly...

@Treefox, thanks, I've tried to approach my hairdo. It's similar (though shorter at the moment, was cut last week, haha), I wish it would look like this all the time, but usually only when I haven't washed it for a few days (I try to wash it as little as possible, scalp condition). I have very heavy hair, so most times it falls flatter then this. Except for the bit at the back standing upright. :D

I still have issues with inanimate objects having a gender in German. My mother would have to correct me. We both got a HUGE laugh when there was one of those amazingly dumb ghost hunting shows where the team was checking out a former Nazi site, and one of the idiots called out, "Ist das Hitler hier?" Hell, even I know better than that! Anyway, I agree with Treefox in that pensive gaze. Tukteh looks a little upset, actually, but maybe that's my interpretation. Maybe it's the heat! Honestly, the attire suggests there is a disconnect with the more traditional appearance of a Sun Villager, maybe Tukteh is reflecting not fully fitting into the lifestyle (I'm guessing because of the heat). Definitely stands out from other holtmates!

Oh man Amberfox! That really made me lol! :lol Thank you! Yes, the gender of objects... nothing makes sense in this weird language...
Your hair sounds fascinating, Afke! Mine is becoming more dry, frizzy and curly the older I get... And thinner!
Back to Tukteh: I love that she is a wallpainter! Could she be related to the wallpainter I put into my calendar entry for this year? I hope it's okay to speculate... I need to draw much more! Ah life, why are you so short??

@Amberfox, they're not the only one in the Sunvillage wearing a hood or hat, though the part of not quite fitting in fits me, so perhaps that could indeed be a thing.

@Treefox, oh that's an interesting idea! Your calendar plate seems from a very early time, so perhaps they could be an ancestor of Tukteh?

Yes, they must be an ancestor. Probably a few thousand years between them... It's nice to speculate about that. :)
