Rogue's Challenge
by Woodbee
A very far-out-there 'what if' - Khavi just has such good reasons to punch Rayek in the face.

Heehee, this is great!
Could easily see this happening indeed. And I love everyone in the background, spot so many odds... Like Zhantee! And possibly Yun with little Venka on her lap? |

Urda! The lady who ran in to save her when Rayek brought the house down.

I love the angle you achieved on Kahvi here! Not easy to pull off, but you made it look so effortless. Her expression is so perfectly Kahvi, that grin! She's definitely up to something! DO I even have to say anything about that background? You do such remarkable backgrounds! So detailed and so full of life! Of course, young Venka is adorable, but I love the inclusion of Urda, Ekuar, and Vok! Vok gets so little love! The trolls look amazing, but that broad grin on Mender sells it for me! Oh, and Tyldak is there as well. Hmm, wonder what he's up to. Rayek looks really great here, but he's supposed to be the star of the show, right? Another phenomenal cover!

There's so MUCH going on here! It would take me aged to remotely do something like this! There's our friendly Ekuar! Being his perfectly happy self! Young Venka is super and Zhantee biting his nails? Wonderful and adorable. I'm always happy if people are drawing that little guy. Two-Edge scheming and Tyldaks shadow! It's all in there! Rayek looks so so handsome and Kahvis "I'm gonna get you" expression is great! Yeah, I was a bit shocked as a still pretty young person that nobody really seemed to care about what Rayek did to the Go-Backs... I still think it's strange that no one went back to help them. Like they suddenly were the villains or something.

Right? Rayek struck one Go-Back in the face, and insulted her, because he was mad at *Kahvi*, and she didn't retaliate because... he was too powerful and crazy? I didn't like that. But I liked it even less when he smashed up the Go-Back's homes and 'exiled' them (with a chasm? Please. These are world-explorers, they'd be across that gap in a month if they wanted to be.) They'd just been hit by the trolls again, and were trying to get his rock shaper buddy back! He didn't even ask how many of them had been injured defending Ekuar, or think that maybe he could work WITH them to rescue Ekuar. Ugh, his lack of respect for anyone but himself was ugly. Face punchies for him!

That's a rich background life. Zhantee looks like he's eating his fingers in excitement, Ekuar so dreamy and so much cheering and booing and whatnot.
Though I'd also ask to see the whole picture. The Go-Backs are (or at least pretend to be) hard-asses. They are (or want to be, or get raised to be) the great warriors in the icy realms. No remorse, no regret. No chance for the weak. So yes, there was overreaction from Rayek's suide, due to extreme worries of having lost his mentor-near-father - after losing the child and witnessing the Go-Back's little respect for life. And one must also take into account that Rayek was over-charged with all these spirits. And slapping people in the face? That's the way Kahvi likes to communicate with folks around her. It seems to be her way of showing a hard shell to everyone; hardness, being blunt, showing little to no empathy. Yeah, the child died, so what? (Besides, the child had not even died but she wanted to raise her alone and keep Rayek out. In some way, she achieved exactly that.) |

See, that's what I'm saying! Khavi totally should've punched Rayek in the face. It's how she communicates!
(Yeah, he was definitely having a difficult time staying grounded with all those spirits riding him back to the Palace. I suppose the Go-Backs didn't actually consider his destruction to be that terrible, given that they could easily rebuild their dens and cross the divide. Still, symbolically and all, he gave them a big old unwarranted slap, and I don't see any of them respecting grief in a way that would make them put up with that.) |

Oh, I want to add here: I absolutely understand that Rayek did what he did in that situation, hyped with the spirits of the deceased Gliders and still full of frustration for the neglect of their potential dead child by Kahvi and the way she treated him to make sure he was out of the picture for raising Venka. I was more shocked that none of the other tribes cared about that and went back to help them. Nooo, they went partying in the Sun Village while the Go-Backs might have starved or have frozen to death... Like the Go-Backs didn't matter in the slightest...
I don't want to condone what Rayek did, but there was a good set up and explanation to his ark. The neglect by everyone else really baffled me... |

Perhaps it was because there was barely time to think about this, seeing how urgent the case with the screaming in Suntop's head was. It was just a matter of, what? Two days? That all of that took place, them flying to the new land, and POOF palace gone, so no easy way to go about clearing all of this up. I can think of only the Sunfolk perhaps knowing of his actions, no other tribes (Gliders were dead, Wolfriders were in the new land, they didn't know anyone else at that point in time). The wolfriders that were left in the Sunvillage were all there because they were raising young children. I'm thinking only the jackwolfriders could've organised a quest to find them. Then again they were also the protectors of the sunvillage, and everyone being aware they just lost a whole lot of people they were closer to.
So... I'm not sure. ![]() ![]() |
