Fire and Flight remastered - cover

This is the first Father Tree Press cover I did.  I did trace the original Father Tree Press Fire and Flight cover, but as you can see if you compare, I didn't stick with the original lines or colors in a number of places.
I had all the time in the world to work on this, and tweaked at it for years getting everything just right (or overworking it, from another perspective.) I have done comics to deadline, and would say that such sequential narratives showcase less than 30% of an artist's actual skill.  Time, and easily available reference material, and not starting from scratch all lend themselves to a higher quality piece of artwork than it is possible to put out on a tight schedule.  Wendy Pini is incredible, and Richard's fight to get her work printed at the level of quality it deserved is much appreciated.

I'd have to really dig up the Father Tree Press cover to compare, but just offhand, it seems that you have more, highlighting and shading as well as vibrant colors than the original. Leetah seems more annoyed or angry. Savah and Rayek also seem to have more personality in the background. Of course, still great work on New Moon! I always felt the coloring in Father Tree Press seemed flat and a bit dull, but I was spoiled from the beginning with the Starblaze versions. I know there were issues and the Pinis rightfully dissolved their contract, but the color in those books are stunning!

Ooh, I don't think I've ever even seen the Starblaze editions!

...I was terrified when this got views but no comments for a while.  I can take it down if it offends people!  Or if they don't know how to respond...
(I had the hardest time with Leetah's face.  She looked too young, too gentle... I think in the end I still made her eyes too round and her cheekbones and jaw not quite sharp enough.  And changing the direction of her gaze to look at Cutter instead of the tip of his sword/upwards makes her look crosseyed from a distance.)

Don't ever be worried when there are slow or even no responses to your post. Sometimes this site can get quiet for whatever reason, and some art doesn't have replies, again, for whatever reason. As an artist, it can be frustrating, maybe it's your favorite piece, but it happens. We do live in an era where people are highly reactive, but thankfully, this site hasn't had that issue regarding posted art. No reason to take it down. As for the Starblaze book, sorry you haven't seen them. They are really gorgeous, and comparing them to Father Tree, well, there is no comparison.

Leetah's eyes don't look too rounded or crossed to me. She also doesn't seem to be looking at New Moon, she appears to be looking at Cutter. We are our harshest critics.

By the high ones please don’t take any of the covers down! This series of illustrations are so beautiful! Your art is inspiring and something to look up to. It is always a joy to see when you post something new. :grouphug

No, don't worry! No one is offended, just awe-struck! :lol I really just didn't have the time to comment. I love this version! It has a slightly different vibe than the original to me. Leetah's shading looks more refined and Cutter a little less edgy, maybe? Anyway, I love this! And as Amberfox has said, the Starblaze coloring is IT! It's beyond gorgeous and detailed and the way I was introdued to Elfquest.
