Bearclaw's reign and legacy are complicated.  He was lively and charismatic; he opened trade with the trolls, and his willingness to drink and gamble, brag and cheat, won them over as few other elves could have.  In his drunkenness, he neglected his tribe and his child, and struck his lifemate.  He defended the tribe fiercely, and grieved each death with his whole heart.  But could some of those deaths have been prevented by a leveler head and a better tactician?
The Wolfriders loved him, and he loved them back.  Even if he wasn't the best at forethought, taking advice, or holding himself back from something once he'd thought of it, and sometimes dragged them from scrape to disaster, he did love them.
This concludes my run of 'What-if' Father Tree Press style covers for the Blood of Ten Chiefs (unless I go back and fill in someone's chieftaincy with an extra cover or two of non-chief characters who are nonetheless central to the plot.)  However, this is not the end of my Father Tree Press 'what-if' covers!  After all, the Wolfriders were never alone on the World of Two Moons, were they?

I think you absolutely nailed the essence of Bearclaw here, that expression is perfect! That sneering snarl behind a bloody New Moon, again, perfect. I really liked Bearclaw from the Original Quest, but as we got to know his story better, the more he came off as an asshole. To me, anyway. Mixed feelings about this guy. Of course, dreamberries should be at his side before Joyleaf, but of course, she's a beauty here. Good to see a troll as well, but the placement of Madcoil seems to have him looming over the scene, especially at Joyleaf. Has a very creepy, foreshadowing quality. Joyleaf's side eye and expression towards Bearclaw is spot on as well, she seems both loving and apart from him. That seemed to be their relationship overall. Putting Bearclaw in the shadows and the background in the light is appropriate, Bearclaw being a sort of shadowy figure, Joyleaf being a more enlightened one. Look forward to seeing more Father Tree inspired covers, whatever they may be! They are so amazing!

Yeah, there's a very dual nature about Bearclaw, it's probably why he's so interesting; he reflects so much of ourselves. I think he really embodies the "two wolves fighting within you" saying.
Wolfrider! is one of my favourite stories to reread on its own, and this could easily be the cover of it. He regretted so much in the end, and I cry everytime he faces the reality of where Madcoil came from. Yet right here he is totally in the moment (a different moment), and you can tell he's letting the wrong wolf run wild in his head.

Oh wow! Another stunner! Yep, I also think you managed to picture Bearclaw perfectly here! I love that he's a flawed and complicated character. Joyleaf truly didn't have it easy, so I am also a fan of that sideeye of hers! And that the background seems to be drenched in sunlight while he is in the shadows is wonderful. Madcoil looming over them like the snake in the garden of Eden is awesome!
