Windblaze
by Amberfox
A very old illo I just now got around to coloring. I can see the flaws, but hey, it's old. Windblaze is my character from my old roleplay games. Reds get killed by my scanner, but his hair is very vibrant with four different shades of red used. Anyway, I am NOT AFRAID of curls! And it took me a long time to finish coloring those locks. He has been in a couple of holts over the turns, but in the games, he was considered an "old married" with his lifemate, Dawnstar (Janett Beasley). When they were captured, they remained pretty calm about it, but when threatened with separation, they went insane and attacked the guards, allowing the others in the campaign to get free. Fun game! He's a calm, friendly, gentle sort, but can become aggressive if really pushed. Again, lazy with the lack of background, but I'll try and post something more detailed soon. Coloring has kept me less insane for much of this year after a devastating event.

Oh my, curls can be hell, and there's so many of them in this picture!
The reds looks very vibrant indeed, because of the multiple tints you used. I hope you're feeling better btw, our creative outlets are so necessary. |

Not lazy, judicious!
Agreed, amazing curls, again. Nice shading on the skin, too - you're using colored pencils? You've got a deft hand, to shade so softly! I'm terribly sorry to hear about real-life stuff Happening to you. I've had my share of events this year, too, and art has always been healing for me. The act itself, and getting to connect with others through it. Thank you so much for welcoming me to this community. I'm really glad to see your work popping up! It inspires me to actually finish some more of my own languishing projects. |

Yes, if you've checked out my album, I'm well known for being one of the last holdouts for using colored pencils, pens, and grease pencils. Also, as you've noted, long hair on my characters. I should learn digital coloring, but I'm a borderline luddite and it can take me a while to adjust. I also lack the tools at the moment, but at some point, I'll look into it, maybe get some recommendations from this site. So many knowledgeable and talented artists here! And this is a great site to be inspired by others. You can easily pick up ideas and techniques and improve your own skills.
And thank you both! Art is therapeutic, and you have something to show for it at the end of the day. |

I love working with watercolor and ink, myself. There's nothing as lovely as the sensation of a brush gliding over the paper and laying down the right line! Even though I do a lot of my coloring by computer now, because I don't have a studio set up, it's definitely a second best for me.
All that's to say, it's fine to continue with colored pencil forever if they do what you want! Unless you prefer the textures and colors that computer coloring provides, I don't see a reason to switch. |

First of all his jewellery is gorgeous and his spear just ughhhh! I really dig the feathers! And his hair looks so much like fire just marvellous.
Second, on the topic of art materials I think that you shouldn’t feel pressured to go all digital. Your colouring is really neat as is. |

Oh heeeey! This is really fire! And I hear you about the reds getting killed by the scanner... *cries*. It still looks great, but I can imagine that the real thing has even more subtle tones to it. Man, to touch those curls! How soft they must be! And I agree on the jewelry! So beautiful. I also think the Naginata-like weapon design is so neat, with the little decorations as well.
And big hug goes out to you for all you had to go through this year. It is such a tough year. Another one here that thinks drawing helps with dealing with so many things. I am absolutely thrilled to see "new" art from you. |
