Okay, I left out the background. Laziness! Rather inexcusable after all the posting with stunning backgrounds that are as richly and vibrantly detailed as the foregrounds. Shame on me! But here it is: soul brothers Desertmoon and Amberfox just letting loose and enjoying playing music and dancing in the moonslight. This is a really old illo that I just now got around to coloring. Desertmoon's hair took an eternity, but I'm really pleased with how it turned out. Amberfox is my character, Desertmoon is Sean McKay's. These two are inseparable soul brothers that left/were kicked out of their original holt and eventually founded their own, Holt of Grand Illusions. Sean and I gamed these two so often they're second nature. Even costumed as them at conventions (of course I had to wear Amberfox's original outfit that included a shirt). Great news is that life did separate the two of us, but last year, we reconnected. It's been so much fun!

You do you, and that is exactly what I felt when I saw this picture: Yay, new Amberfox art! Somehow your longhaired characters feel just as nostalgic to me as picking up the first EQ books again. There's so much joy in this picture, we can imagine the background ourselves, no problem, and make it personal at that. Now this could feel all hippy-like in a sunny meadow, or a brooding summer night at a campfire, or the moonlight you described! |

Hooray for reconnections and finishing long-unfinished projects! Their hair is really gorgeous, well worth the time spent on it. Amberfox's is so long and flown and fluffy, I can imagine them both sleeping on it! I love the art nouveau flow to his, and the love put into all the curls of Desertmoon's.
I hold that not every piece needs a background. If I were putting in a background on this one, I'd be really cautious and minimal about it, because the characters really are all that's needed. I think you showed good judgement, not laziness, in letting them stand (or dance) on their own. I appreciate the relationship clear in their gaze: they're singing and dancing just for the joy of being with the other, getting to see what the other does next. What a beautiful bond! |

Ah Amberfox’s design is just so cool! Honestly if I could I’d steal his pants for myself if I could. And his jewellery choice is just fire. I also like how here their designs play off of each other. And its is really lovely to see new art from you. When I first came here your drawing were one of the firsts I looked at, so in a way also responsible for me being here.

Again, sorry for not commenting sooner, but the business trip is eating all of my time! Woooow! I love the dynamics in this, they almost form a circle, seemingly emphasizing how much they belong together. They are brothers in all AND music! I am happy to hear that you reconnected in real life! That's something to celebrate indeed!
Again, I love the detailed soft and flowing hair, all those curls! And the instruments also turned out so well. I want to join that dancing. Treefox would surely sing with them! |

Aw, thank you so much, Marl! I'm truly flattered you enjoyed my art enough to inspire you to join the site! Treefox, the pair would gladly welcome your voice to sing along with them (does Marl or Woodbee sing?)! Afke, as it's been said, we're our worse critics! I always think I can do better and often am inspired by others' art to do just that. Of course, more long haired characters are to follow. I just sketched Songjoy's soul brother...

Woodbee does sing - pretty well, even. But like with the other things they make, they tend not to whip it out and show everyone on first meeting.
Heh, now I've got an idea for a follow-up to the piece I'm working on now... |
