Strangers' Ways

After the deaths of his mother and sister, Two-Spear began an escalating feud with the nearby humans. When they were caught in open battle in the foothills near the dens, Skyfire and her hunters provided cover with their bows and Mountain Tamer sealed the pass behind them.  However, nobody was happy about any of this.  Although they were now in the cold north, among humans they had never met, Two-Spear provoked the humans wherever they went.  At last, Two-Spear and his close followers were left to his 'mountain stronghold', and Skyfire took the tribe back across the pass now known as the Shield of Arrows.  Her reign began.  Two-Spear's group did not survive long after; 'his' daughter No-Name was an adolescent when he challenged her and left her for dead in the mountain caverns, and whatever happened to him after, only a few children made it across the mountains to join the herd-following elves of the plains.

Skyfire avoided the foothills where so much had gone wrong, and kept to the woodlands, but eventually, the tribe hunted their way down into the plains.  There the Wolfriders met their long-ago brethren, and the rescued remnants of their own tribe.  Even Zarhan, who ran mad at Rahnee's death, had found a home there for a time, and the plains group was led by his daughter Anaya Blackfire.  Cultural misunderstandings and Recognitions both blossomed hilariously.  The tribes did not quite merge, but several members chose to live with the other tribe, temporarily or permanently.
Over the years, Skyfire even chose to adopt her chief-heir from among the Plains elves.  When she felt that Freefoot was ready to take over the tribe (and that the tribe was ready for Freefoot!) she joined the Plains wanderers.  While there she did thwart a mis-aimed coup, and lead the Plains elves across the mountains to the warming plains of the north, but she was absolutely not their chief.  Really.

Skyfire always seemed to be an interesting character, and this really adds a lot more to her backstory! You said you made all this up, but it sounds just as plausible and viable as any of the other stories that are actually cannon written by Wendy herself or others. in fact, I'd love to read the story after reading your synopsis! Since I've covered Skyfire in the post you have of her separately, I have to admit, I love the design on Anaya Blackfire! She looks intriguing and like she can get the job done. Quite the heroic stance on her, and her arrows seem to land their mark as well. Are those rams' horns on her headpiece? Very interesting. You're much better at attire than I am! All in all, brilliant and beautiful!

Wow! I love that you changed the color of Skyfire's hair inks from dark red to fiery red at the upper part! Makes is stick out more and truly look like fire! What a great touch. It's so nice to read this backstory to her. So much going on there... Like Amberfox, I really feel, I need to re-read these books. Anaya is super pretty as well. What a detailed outfit, sporting their own style and culture. Love the design of the bow and shield as well.

So glad you're posting all this info along side of these beautiful covers. I only read a few of the stories in those novels; I always felt like my understanding of English wasn't enough to get through them. I sold them to fans who were more eager than me to read them. ;)
There was always so much of this world that couldn't fit in the canon comicbooks!

I really love the casual pose of Skyfire here, the tucking away of the strand of hair that the wind took hold of. Makes her look so real, and as if you've just snapped a picture of her.

Oh yes, the Pinis also posted this on their official Facebook page and people went nuts over it! Getting so many likes for fanart is really something special, believe me!

WHAAAAAAA
*runs in small circles screaming*

*puts face in chicken to breath* nope nope not happening NOT getting attention just.  all is calm here.  All is calm.  Just chicken.

Uh.  Right.  Thank you all, I am EXTREMELY honored, and I'm going to keep doing this.  I enjoy it very much, and as intimidating as it is to get so much attention, it's also really positive and uh.  I'm just.  Really really grateful.

Your art is something special, really amazing. I'm happy that you want to keep doing this. This is enriching people's days far beyond this tiny forum, including the Pinis. :)

These are so good and I love the story we get here.
Question, is Skyfire the daughter of Zarhan in this version? I've always loved that plot twist (because exasperated Zarhan is funniest thing in Elfquest)

Heh - agree with you on the exasperated Zarhan. I'll have to share the Zarhan Reality vs. Legend sketch, if I can find it.  But no, I didn't go with that plot twist here, or rather, I have Zarhan well known in the Wolfrider tribe as prolific with Rahnee only.  When Moonwreath blames Skyfire on Zarhan at her birth, the Wolfriders understand that's a joke and the child's parentage should be politely ignored while Moonwreath works stuff out with the other parties concerned.  Most of the tribe knew it was Preypacer and Softfoot. Even Slowseed eventually caught on.
