Mountain's Cry

Mountain Tamer's stories offer a wonderful view of the tribe during Preypacer's time as chief.  Central to her own drama, she gives us an outside view of the drama of inheritance played out between the chief-family and the last few 'pure' High Ones.

The tribe was lucky, they thought, to have the level-headed Dove slated as the next chief.  Interpersonal tensions were high in a number of directions.  Love tangles, undesired Recognitions, jealousy, and tribe members who thought themselves too good to work with the rest kept drama high.  Dove cut through the bullshit and took responsibility... and died before her oldest child found their Soul-name, in a stupid human-caused accident.  Spear took bloody revenge, earning the none-too-flattering name 'Swift-spear' for his lack of forethought, and things rapidly devolved from there.

The names sound familiar, but not the story! Is this one of your own? Very interesting image again, really makes me want to read what's behind it all! The dynamic flow of the background characters really shines through, and I can easily see the Pini influence you mentioned in another posting (having a lot of action or imagery in the background not just the foreground). I for one really enjoy the lesser known characters and would love to know more about these elves. Now I'm going to have to grab my reference book and dive back in! Beautiful work! Great poses, so fluid in motion, so deeply envious...

(Moon)Wreath, Dove, and Mountain Tamer are from the Blood of Ten Chiefs anthology novels - written by people other than Wendy.  They explore the history of the Wolfriders, and the quality and adherence to the spirit of Wendy's work varies wildly, I feel.  Some, but nowhere near all, got made into comics in the Blood of Ten Chiefs comic series.
I, uh... have interpreted them rather freely.  I've borrowed names, characters, and situations, but mostly woven my own narrative - one that I feel is coherent and narratively satisfying, from the landing of the High Ones to the beginning of the Quest.

I read one or two of the stories from the anthology novels, but I got the same overall impression that it depended on the writer and agenda of said writer as to how well those stories adhered to Wendy's vision. And the art that wasn't Wendy's was definitely hit or miss. Some of it was wonderful, some of it was...well, what right do I have to complain or criticize? If Wendy Pini approved it, not much to say.

Oh I tried to read the novels so I only know a little bit, but I think your visions are phenomenal at connecting all the little details to a bigger picture.

Oh yeah, in my memory I liked some stories a lot, others felt very off... So I'm more than happy with your vision. Dove is so pretty, love how her eyes sparkle! Nice to see a character that is more of a Shen-Shen type. More round and curvy.  Again, the action in the background is so well drawn, it's unfair! And it perfectly leads the beholder's eyes through the picture, making sure nothing is missed.
