Old Ladies - Savah

Another old watercolor painting that I messed up and abandoned!  Remember, always choose a paper sturdy enough to take the layers of paint you're putting on, and remember to stretch first!

Why does this have a sort of art nouveau vibe to me? Simply gorgeous! You've truly captured the feel of Savah's personality and beauty here. Old lady, maybe, but that grace, style and presence is amazing! Never a huge fan of the Sun Village/Sorrow's End, but I was always fond of her character. The dress is perfect, slightly sheer and very shimmering, picking up her every move and adding to her graceful motion. Her skin tone is spot on, which can be difficult with the darker tones. A lot of artists can neglect highlights and lowlights, giving the skin a flat tone quality, but you nailed it!  The background you added in the full figure image is perfect for the Mother of Memory. It adds a bit of mystique for me. Flawless!

The colors in this! Really, it looks so sun drenched, like straight from the desert. And Savah's gown! Shining, flowing, transparent and simply breathtaking! The was her body is visible through it and the folds are caressing her body... Amazing. But I hear you about choosing the right paper... wrong paper really comes back to bite you in the bum. I think the layout and the flow of the picture is absolutely art nouveau, bordering on bordering on Cubism or Bauhaus. I see a bit of Mondrian in there...
