Dewshine
by Treefox
It took a long time, also because I wasn't home much, but Dewshine is done! I hope I did our sunny-gold highthing justice.
While I, of course, used reference for her and the Nightingale, I like how the little bird turned out. And even if this is very much Disney-princess like pose, it also fits Dewshine, the sweet Nightingale of the Wolfriders.
I am happy with the solution of putting in Treestump's axe, as directly on her breast felt overcrowded to me. So we have the axes for Treestump, Scouter's necklace, Tyleet's medallion/amulet and Blue Mountain Hawk feathers for Windkin and Tyldak.
What do you think?

Awww! <3 This is really cute! That's a very good mix of colours, the soft surrounding green in the background, her pastel-like tones and the slightly intensive blonde, sparkling blue eyes that repeats more softly in the feathers. And such a cute bird!
Little hints to her connections with others... Treestump is spotted, in some indirect way Tyldak, though it could also be a bit Windkin-related, some wolvish element (Tyleet?), ah, Scouter... yes. Very good work! |

Aaah, love it! There were no sneak peeks for the colours, so those are an extra joy to see. I know the backgrounds for all of these are abstract, but the colours in this one make it seem like it's a foggy day, and she's just peeking out above the canopy, greeted there by the bird. And I'm sure there's sunlight in there! Or is it just her hair?

Ohh! Two fast comments! That is so lovely, thank you! I'm happy you like the colors. I didn't have the time to post any updates on them, even though I originally planned to. The comparison to a foggy day is spot on! And there's definitely some sunlight in there. No sunny gold highthing without some sun.

Sorry for the silence on my end, but I just replied to your email. Managing, and might post something when I can get my ass going again. But not to take away from the lovely illo you've done. While not a fan of Dewshine's, you did a truly wonderful job with her! I think the pose works on so many levels and invokes the image of her in the Original Quest where she's absently regarding a bird on her fingers in Blue Mountain. She certainly seems much happier here, and I think that really reflects a sort of maturity and acceptance and joy in her life. Of course, it's fun to plan to play "spot the hidden symbols" and you've continued the great tradition here while being masterful at incorporating them seamlessly into the illo. Great detailing on the jewelry and wood, giving them their own "life." Gorgeous work on the hair coloring (so bright and shiny! Full of life!) and the feather work. Speaking of which, I have to admit, the bird sort of steals the scene for me, but I love birds. Hmmm...seems like a maybe a wren or robin, too slender and large for a sparrow, but then, I'm not well studied up on my European species. I am very much enjoying this series, although I know it's very time consuming. And we at this site get to reap the rewards for all that hard work! Can't wait for who's next!

Wow, thank you so much for taking the time to comment! Especially when you must have completely other things on your mind.
I didn't think of the bird she was holding in Blue Mountain! How fitting! I wanted to portray her happy, as by now, she seems very satisfied with her life and her past experiences seem to have made her wiser. But I still kept her classic curls as I loved them and still miss them. And I was quite surprised to learn how different the bird species in the US and Europe are. And thanks for praising the bird, as I actually think it turned out quite well. It's supposed to be a Nightingale. ![]() As I mentioned, the next one is going to take a long time, as I want to do the calendar entry first and then have another project. But as I'm going through the back covers of the OQ, Scouter is going to be next. ![]() |
