Wallpainting

Something old in stead of something new. Actually this painting pre-dates my internet days, I think it's from 1997. I had the attic room for a while and had painted a friend's wall at their request earlier, hence the wallpainting virus struck (I did several more large paintings after this).
I got actual proper wallpaint for it, simply red, yellow, blue, black, white and a bigger can of dark green, because I knew I wanted foliage and paint the support beams as well. I think I did a tiny sketch at first for a global idea, but then freehand sketched the figures in place and just... started painting.
I did the little wolf pups low on the left, because that is where my head would be when lying in my bed. X)

I actually only enjoyed this painting for 3-4 years, then my sister had this room when I went to college, then my brother, and for the past 10 years or so my dad had it as his painting studio (because he can leave the window open all day). He asked if I wanted to make photos of the wall, because he was cleaning the entire room and that meant a full view for the first time in years. I only had blurry pictures, so yes! Very hard to properly photograph though, pictures still suck, but at least they're sharper.
For scale; I am 175 cm tall, and I have to bend a little to walk underneath the support beams without bumping my head.

Wow, that is quite the endeavour. I know how much work it can be to paint on walls. Thank you for sharing.

Oh my gosh! I can't even express how much I love this! Thank you for sharing. What a beautiful arrangement of characters, preservers and wolves. Was it hard to draw on a wall? I always wanted to try it.

Thank you, lovelies!
Walls are usually not very smooth, so drawing on it with pencil is difficult. You can't really draw details, but you can paint them. So knowing where I wanted to put what was enough for me at that time (luckily!).

I know the guy in red is basically inspired by Tuvok, the guy at the top is a mix of Cutter and Treestump, and the woman next to him I used her design for a background character about a year later; turned her into Vuurhaar's mom!

That's quite some effort, and something different from normal paper formats or screens. A wall and some other elements in it, obstacles, or things to incorporate in the image, and not your rectangular flat plane. It got really nice with the nightly tree-top or bushes and the characters sticking out.

Oh, it's so beautyfull! I'm so happy all your family members kept it all the time. Is it on the ceiling of a bunk bed?
The green is so inviting.
In my first own flat I painted the wall inside a storage room with the Elfquest cover from No.8. The wall was so uneven it was quit a pain. By my leaving I just painted it over and I have no picture, because at that time there were only SLR cameras (No mobile Phones) and I don't had one. Since than I wanted to do something similar again, but didn't so far. Wallpainting virus really stuck a long time in my case.
Thanks for sharing!

Thanks!
It's a whole attic wall on one side of the house, floor to ceiling (pov: the door is at the point where I stood to take the photo).

I know about not having pictures, so many thing I only have memories of... I used to draw the back of EQ2 (of Leetah sitting on a rock) on our driveway with chalk, blew it up as big as a car. Drew over it again and again when it faded from driving over it or rain, lol. Was around the same time as this wallpainting I think, late '90s. Much more labour intensive than this wall, yet no pictures...

I had wanted to do something similar in my old bedroom, but Mom wouldn't let me. As an adult, I can understand why, but still. I wish you had been able to take pictures of your chalk drawings. That must've been a lot of work and looked amazing! Never even thought of doing that in millions of years. This must have taken quite a while, but I can see it was worth it to you (and for us now) when you did it. Looks like you really made good use of the space to its max, and I love the lush greenery. Were these your characters at the time? An imagined holt of your own before actually creating one of your own? My eyes are really focused on the lovely lady in grey. I assume that's Vurrhaar's mom, or what would become his mother? Also love the adult wolf looking at the little bird, the blonde below them, and the dark haired lady between the wolves. I did do a huge illo way back in the day, I think 18 by 24 inches or larger. Not sure if I still have that. Should look into it at some point...Amazing work!

They were random designs, and colours just came to me as I was mixing them. Apart from the one lady in brown (not  the one in grey) becoming Vuurhaar's mom, but only AFTER I had already painted this. ;) Only her head sticking out here, but apparently that made her still moldable I guess.
I do think, seeing this again, I put the most effort into the left corner, with all the wolfies; like a little capsule I could sleep in that corner. There's a lot visible of that lady, perhaps I could try drawing her again.

Thanks for the additional info on the characters. So cool that one evolved into Vuurhaar's mom!
I'd love to see a current version of her.
