by Rowtiger
Hello all, just wanted to share this mini intro comic I did for the wife's EQ fan club group ( WildWood Holt~ ElfQuest Fanclub!! https://www.facebook.com/groups/262311417306076/ also It's independent website - http://thespiralofoblivion.com/wildwoodholt/index1.html) Hope you find it as enjoyable as I did creating it.
I know there is a limit on daily posts, hoping you won't mind me posting the complete comic (5 pages only) just this one time.
Created on Blue line comic 11x17 Bristol with Copic Multiliner and sketch markers. All narrative boxes and lettering finished in PS CS5, scanned to standard comic format size.

I really like the use of color on the landscape here, and the opening overall! fine work!...

I agree with Berit. The coloring is very reminiscent of a comic book series with a bit of a bright stain glass feel to it. I love that you tackled two "space" scenes in one illo and did a perfect job with it. The clouds in the second illo would have more depth to them with a little bit of shading or a hint of grey and blue, but that's pathetic nitpicking. I always admire and envy anyone that manages to do a comic, even if it's short. Great work!

Your very right about the shading. Actually I did shading but my scanner is not great so I have to play with contrast, variation and so on with every piece. I lost some lighter shades of color trying to get the image to match the original art. If I go the other way the colors become to harsh and bright, if that makes sense. Wasn't sure if the dual space scene would work or not, originally I had it laid out in flat frames and it didn't look right so I tried this instead. Still not happy but it'll do until I come up with something else.

I do see a bit of the shading there, so it also varies per screen I guess. Scanners don't always fully co-operate. Me and my new one aren't really friends yet either, I miss my old one that was not compatible with Win8 (I've had it since 2001).
I like how you tackled each page differently in set-up. Like this one seems to unfold from a scroll, and in the next you used the shape of wolf ears. So much variation, well done! |

Scanners hate artwork. My old one would chew up all color work I did so I was never willing to post much of it. Looking at his on my computer at work, I can see faint coloring/shading, but I think it might have been too subtle for your scanner. Again, it happens to me all the time.
