Moonshade
by Treefox

Even this sketch I drew as a base to this picture is more than 1 1/2 years old!
Phew!

My next picture will be 100% traditional coloring. I miss feeling pencils and paper in my hand!

Yay! Thanks! I would actually say that C/C is welcome, but in this case I know all to well the problems even the sketch had from the start. As this was drawn on top of that sketch, the problems remained. However, I would very much like C/C and/or tips on the CG coloring and color concept.
The sketchiness of the coloring is on purose, though. I wanted to keep a slightly rougher feel for this. |

I would just suggest keeping a consistant lighting and shadow effect, especially since there's lightning(?) in the background, it would definitely create a dramatic shadow. Now, if she has a candle going, I suggest a warm orange highlight in the direction the candle is, that way you can tell there is more than one light source.
Thats the only thing I see, the den around her looks awesome, her expression is amazing, and I love the fur and the water drops! |

It's gorgeous, and very dramatic with the look and those pretty drops.

Thanks afke!
And Destiny, I absolutely agree! I actually tried this picture with a more dramatic lighting first, but then I could really make the raindrops stand out clearly enough anymore. So I went with a much less realistic, more diffuse lighting. Thank you for the C/C! |

Wow, she looks wonderful Treefox. You're going to laugh when I post mine though. They aren't exactly the same but it seems our brains see Moonshade in a very similar way.
I really like the rain, it came out well. ![]() I have some time off work, maybe I'll get mine done too. |

I just love the way you have captured her expression ! Wendy's facial movements are Epic and hard to live up to. But This is dead-straight on ! The worry . . . the sadness; perfect enough to make me **Sigh**.
AAaahhh. A pencil in the hand is worth two callous' a day. I used Lead pencils for over 30 years. Had to give them up for Graphite / Mechanical. Have to say I Love the shades of grey I get ! |

I've always admired your drawing skills and I do recall this particular illo in sketch format. You've done a wonderful job with the shading and mood; the lightning and storm effects are equally wonderful. I think I'd have to agree with the only suggestion being more drama to the shading and maybe just a hint of color extending a bit further around the window again to give it a bit more depth. This is a beautiful illo and as Tah-Marien has said, you have captured her expression as well as the essence of Moonshade.

*blush* Aw, guys, you really know how to make be blush.
![]() Thank you so much! I will work on a more dramatic lighting next time I draw a picture that lends itself to a dramatic lighting. And I also only draw with mechanical pencils nowadays. When I discovered them in my early teen years it was instant love that lasts to this very day. ![]() |

I'm pretty much drawing and sketching with mechanical pencils, too. They can really allow me to get those really fine, details I'm obsessive over. I don't mind using regular graphite pencils, but I prefer the mechanical pencils.

You know, this is the first piece I've seen using monochrome colors. Even inspired me to do something similar. Can not really put a finger on how or why it works so well and looks so good, but it does.

Thanks, Startear! Foxeye's tips for digital coloring helped me a big deal to get a hang of at least the basics. She is a pretty good teacher!
I strongly recommend doing a monochrome picture for once. For me, it's great fun to see how many shades one color can create and monochrome pictures always create a very certain mood, which can be nice at times! |

Monochrome Challenge. Hhhmmmm Maybe we should move a copy of this to it's own File Under Challenges ? ? I for one am willing to try.
Again . This is a very moving piece of art work and the eye just "goes there" when it is on a page. Wonderful ! |
