All you need is love (young BEARDLESS!!! Treestump)
by Larialoyla
Felt a sudden urge to draw a young, beardless Treestump/Birdcall (I figured he had to be beardless once, even if it’s now a long, long, long, long time ago), this also gave me the opportunity to try and paint Rillfisher. I’m explaining his beardlessness with that they probably (?) were love/lifemates before recognizing, or that he grew a beard overnight when Dewshine was born…

As far as I remember, he had a beard before they recognized. Though they were most likely either lovemates before beard time. Odd to see him without it.

Ah! I only know of one Wendy-drawn piece that shows Treestump without a beard -- it's in the story in "Wolfrider!" about Strongbow as a teenager. When Strongbow is brought back to the Holt by Bearclaw, injured, you can see Treestump kneeling on a root of the Father Tree, and he's clearly beardless. While Rillfisher isn't shown within that story, there's nothing definitive to say that she didn't exist at the time and that they weren't already lovemates. (The next "chapter" in "Wolfrider!" jumps forward by a number of years, and then Treestump is shown with facefur.)
So a long way of saying, I definitely support seeing him like this. ![]() |

Oh my! This is so, so sweet. Rillfisher's happiness almost brought tears to my eyes as well. Your coloring is so smooth and pleasant. Always feels like a sunny day. Just as your Rainsong pinup is also so unbelievably pleasant. Great picture!

Beautiful pic! So tender! And he really looks like Treestump - even without his trademark beard.
As for the Rillfisher/Treestump- thing: We do see them togeher as a couple before they were recognized - not just in "Wolfrider", but also in "Starfall, Stirrise". Granted- he does have a beardby then - but it least it shows that they were love?/life?mates well before they recognized. So their relationship could easily have started well before his facefur had come in. |

Thanks guys for all your feedback! It’s much appreciated! Yes, I do agree with you, it was REALLY weird seeing a beardless Treestump, but it was also a fun challenge trying to make him look like himself without his “trademark beard” (quoting Mirror here). I’ve wanted to paint Treestump & Rillfisher for a while now, and I was hoping I’d get away with drawing him without his beard…
![]() Miss Gillespie> that baby pic is awesome! ![]() Eregyrn & Mirror> thanks for the references! I haven’t got "Starfall, Starrise", but I immediately had to go to my bookshelf (yes, I’m that old-fashioned… I know it can all be found in digital format, but I enjoy page flipping) and read said chapter in Wolfrider! |
