Redberry and Somar (not ? anymore)
by Treefox
Oh, I had totally forgotten this one! This could also almost go to the "Now and Then" challenge... This was drawn in 2006, when I re-discovered many of my old pictures. These two are also from that jungle elf tribe. I have forgotten what the name of the guy was...
Anyway, these elves use the exotic birds and butterflies as inspiration for their clothes, that's why there are lots of both in this picture.
Edit: I found out the guy's name! It's Somar.

Adorable! I'd so love to read a mini-comic by you about your characters - or the official characters. Or anyone's characteres, really. You are able to pull off the same illustrative coloring style that made me fall in love with EQ.

The critters are everywhere! What's the story behind this?

That a wonderful compliment, thank you. When I held my first Hidden Years comic in my hands, I thought: this is what I want to do! So I tried and tried to get closer to that coloring style. Admittedly I never reached that level, but it taught me a lot!
I actually did draw a comic with these characters. I used to draw comics a lot. But it is sooo old, I really can't show that to the world. I think I was 13-14 years old... The story was so cliché... Man, I would love to draw a comic again... But it is just too time consuming. ![]() |

Hurray! More Treefox art! Great to see "new material" from you; well worth the wait. I love the bright and bold use of color, yet somehow it still appears soft. I would also love to read the comic, even if it's just to see more of your art! I really enjoy the attention to the leafy green background; you get a true sense they're in a jungle. I also love the detail in their hair and clothing, especially his purple and blue. Don't see a lot of male characters dressed in bright colors.

Oooh, the praise! Thanks!
Ah yes, that hair color! I loooved using that water color red for hair. That was one strong-pigmented red! One little drop and you got the brightest red. As I am a big fan of red-green contrast I wanted to make her hair as red as possible. Amberfox, I'd also like to see more from you! And also from Berit, btw. Has been gone for so long now. Indeed all of the tribe's men wore such bright clothes. At first it seemed quite strange to me too, but I actually got used to it pretty soon. Quite a lot of work to color characters with so many different colors on them. |
