New Green Bliss Celebration

So the short explanation for this, I guess, is that part of River Twine's tribe has a spring celebration that involves all the usual kinds of spring-celebration things, like dancing and dressing up in flowers and body-paint and feathers and whatnot, and later, once all the kids are in bed, the adults sexily washing the paint off each other and (*tasteful fade to black*). And we just had an art contest to do pics related to this celebration, so this is what I did.

From left to right: Snowfall (belongs to Flowerstar); Copper (Beth) and her father Farscout (Whitney); Moss (Hannah); Brightwood (Rachel); Blacksnake (mine); Goldspice (Rini); and Cloudfern (Valkyrie).

I reffed the dancing from every pic of dancing elves Wendy Pini had ever done, and then tried not to just copy any particular one, and a few pics of human dancers; and the drummers from pics I had of some drummers. Pilot and Sharpie markers for inking, Copic marker coloring, lots and lots of effects in Photoshop.

It's gorgeous! I love how happy everyone is and even the preservers are joining in. I wonder why Farscout isn't decorated? Is there a story behind that?

I noticed that, too, Peacepine, but neither is Copper. Maybe Daddy didn't want her to feel left out and opted not to paint or decorate himself? Just a thought! I love the addition of the preservers in this as well, especially that they're actively participating by tossing petals at the dancers. The rendering of each character is wonderfully done, especially since you had to pay attention to the heights and positions of each to each other. Beautifully done!

Thanks, guys. :)  I realized later that I should have picked a wider range of heights for the involved characters, just to show that we have the range.  I just happened to pick a bunch who were all similar in height.

Reason for Farscout not being painted up: he's not really into this celebration, and generally isn't the partying type; the biggest concession he'll make is to play drums for a portion of it. ;-)  In years past he'd be sure to go out on a lonnnnng scouting trip to avoid it; but now that he's got his lifemate back and they have their daughter, he's more of a homebody around the Holt.  Once the dancing's concluded here, he will go off and play babysitter for the Holt's youngsters, letting their parents have some fun.  Copper isn't painted because... I forgot. ::blush::  But she's a very sober little kid, maybe she just feels dubious about it, the way her daddy does.  (Mom, front and center, clearly has no such reservations.)

I really like the story behind this. The concept of the body painting is lovely. Dancing is so hard to draw, I think you not only did a good job at catching the motion but also showing the em-motion on the dancer's faces. And again the little details add so much: the kid with her fox doll is great
