Staartjagers
by Afke
I think I made this picture when Staartjager Vallei was already dead, but I'm not sure... It's not finished either, never got around to do that. There's some things about it that bother me now, but I still like it a lot too. I found a photo of these 3 wolves together and figured it'd be perfect to try out wolfriding poses on them.
Pestola is riding her wolf Yuha with her daughter Maste, Herfst (autumn) -who's Vuurhaar's little brother, they have the same mother- is on his wolf Sneeuwvlok (snowflake), and Vuurhaar (firehair) is on Bliksem (lightning).

well, I don't really see anything that bothers me too much, biggest thing might be the thing that Herfst's head is covering the wolf's head... but there is something very nice about this, the characters seem to be so at home on the Wolves backs, and I haven't really seen pictures of wolfriding families before! so it is a very interesting group picture!...

Just anatomy things that I'd do different now. Plus the wolves could be a bit bigger, more muscles / fluffier fur / larger heads, something that makes 'm more Elfquesty.

I also think that the wolves and riders go together quite naturally. And I like the crisp lines, looks like it's ready to get colored!

This is a really cool idea. The only things that strike me, like Berit said, is that the foreground figure's head overlaps the wolf's in an odd way; I wonder if that wouldn't seem so odd if it was colored in and there was more of a contrast between the two solid objects, instead of having to distinguish the linework? And yeah, I would say that the figure in the foreground looks like the "right size" for the wolf... but the others look a bit small. A problem I sympathize with, because I often feel I haven't done the wolves big enough for their riders!

Herfst's head in front of the wolf's doesn't really bother me - to me it's just looks like a coincidence, same things happen when you photograph people, it makes the picture more of a snapshot and less of a setup to me.
The reason Herfst is a bit smaller on his wolf is because he's a teen and not fully grown. I still think all of the wolves should be a bit bigger to make the carrying of (adult) elves on their backs more effortless. |
