Look Afke! TROLLS!
Okay, they're not especially nice trolls, but I dug this old gem up. Story illo for Shadow Vale Holt, written by Jen Seago (I think). Clip, the elf on the ground, is a regular visitor to the local troll warren and strikes up trade and gambling games with some of the locals. Mushfroth and Toadeater have decided he's cheated them one time too many and decide to enslave him. He's being read the riot act here.
Mushfroth and Toadeater are adoptable characters created by Jen Seago, Clip is Aura Moser's character.

I'm still gonna "yay!" for the trolls, even though they're not friendly ones.
 I think it's just great if more people give them a try, it's much different drom drawing elves and different is always good practice.You seem to have sculpted the trolls more than you did Clip - just his face and hair though, those seem flat compared to the rest of the drawing. He can still be pretty with a little crosshatching in his face, I promise.

I need to dig up the illo I did prominently featuring a preserver. I agree, it's fun to draw the various species. Sometimes it's quite challenging, but when it works, it's rewarding.
Yeah, I know. It's a weakness I'm working on. I tend to be shy about shading in the face (especially the lips) because I can't seem to get it "right." It's mostly that I'm just not used to doing it, so doing something new often just looks wrong. When I color, I can't help but contour the face and muscles, but inking...not so much. Plus, this is an old illo, so...I'll go with that as an excuse! |

I just love Clip's face. He just looks so peeved in the "you gotta be kidding me," and "yeah right, good luck with that."

The trolls have a good "goon" type of feeling going for them! the poses are just great as is the shading! I really like all these black and white illustrations you do! I really like the size difference of their feet for some odd reason! impressive stuff as always Amberfox!...

If I remember correctly, he was rescued by a group from Shadow Vale. Sadly, Shadow Vale couldn't get rescued and has pretty much folded. I really enjoyed that holt, though. Lots of fun.
