"Duet" (Cover of In All But Blood)

It wasn't planned that way, but this is the painting that landed me the job with Warp.  I wanted to do a take-off on Raphael's School of Athens with Cutter as Aristotle and Skywise as Plato, it was just coincidence that it worked for the cover of In All But Blood.

I've never posted this anywhere online, but thought I should since I like my original colors and the printing process for the cover totally changed them.  This is not a hi-res scan, so hopefully Richard is okay with it.

This is a tiny painting, less than 8 x 12.  It was never meant to be published or I would have made it larger so it tightened up as it was reduced.

Medium:  Watercolor and gouache on cold press illustration board.

How I love the cold - warm color transition!
And without all the writing, I'm seeing now for the first time the wolf in the stars. What a beautiful way of showing Starsong and Wolfsong..

What a coincidence, I just reread "In all but blood" yesterday, because I found Sonny Strait on dA! I love this picture, and it was nice to read your whole process and thoughts behind it, so much work in that alone! Really raises you above just being a fan artist, Pinis must've seen that too. ;]

I've always loved this piece! The richness and contrast between warm and cool colors is wonderful. Your work is fantastic, Carol.
