Tending the Thornwall

Done for this year's RTH Secret Santa exchange; I was doing art for mischievous_valkyrie, who owns Cloudfern.  Here, he is seen with his sister Brightwood, newly awakened from wrapstuff.  He was once her baby brother; now he's a couple centuries older than she is!  Lots of changes in the world while she slept, one of which was the creation of a thorn-wall for the protection of the Holt.  So here, Cloudfern introduces his sister, also a plantshaper obviously, to his "old friend".

Adding: it was done in my usual set of media.

Also: the owl at upper right is a Northern saw-whet.  Do a Google image-search for "saw-whet" to see more pics of this extraordinarily tiny and cute owl.  This was reffed from a variety of pics.

A saw-whet!  I recognized it even before I saw your comment, so you did a good job. :) I <3 those little guys. My dad was a raptor rehab-er, and we always had 1-5 saw-whet's at any given time. They all inherited the name "Rambo", because if you are a mouse, they are pretty darned scary.

OMG SAW-WHETS ARE THE CUTEST THINGS!  I went to a banding demo in the fall, and just fell in love with them.  I adore the fact that they are so tiny and cute, but they are deadly with their little sharp beaks and teensy needle-sharp claws.

I really want to spend some time learning to draw owls.  This was my first owl attempt, so I'm really glad it came out well (and recognizable!).
