Another really fun character in World Paths. A moderate ranking male in the Twilightborn Holt of Serengeti Mists, bonding with hyenas. In the games, this guy is wonderfully unpredictable, opening up a range of possibilities. In just the first month of his creation, he's already decided leaping over the backs of charging angry animals is a sport, which has earned him the title of "Toadboy." I was a little disappointed with the shading of his hair; he gets his name from it, it's supposed to be similar to an African hunting dog (kind of splotchy with patches of yellows, tans, black, white). Ah well, it'll be more obvious when I get around to coloring him. Painteddog is Janett Beasley's character.

I just love the coloring of the Hyenas ! ! There is a Dutch Sheperd we had for a while that was the same. Everyday I looked at her in wonder. But, I really don't think I could color one in my mediums. Scanners just caught up to the look of crayons I think. Before (over ten yrs ago) when I copied my stuff it looked real bad for WesterCon 52.

DestinysGift, please don't swallow your lung! But I'm really pleased you like Painteddog. I just wish I had done a better job with the shading to make it look more like an African hunting dog. Ah well, maybe next time, or whenever I get around to coloring him. Tah-Marien, which species of hyena? There are spotted, brown, or striped, hyenas and the aardwolf. Personally, I like hyenas; I think they get a bad reputation when lions are far worse. Plus I like the idea that hyena society is extremely matriarchal. Scanners are just evil; the only one that works for me is my brother's, and his tends to leave a strong grey background that I have to manually go back in and erase in photoshop.

I think you did just fine with his hair, especially seeing that this is ink. That kind of variety must be hard to achieve. I'm glad this one was dug up, I hadn't seen it before.

Thank you, Startear, but I think I succeeded far better with another "weird hair color" character using just ink. The character has hair coloration like a rhino viper; that was a complete nightmare to shade in, but I think I managed. Glad you like it!
