Amberfox - Microbiologist!
by Amberfox
WORK IN PROGRESS! The third I've done in the "What would your elf do if-?" series. I couldn't help but imagine Amberfox wielding my 200 microliter pipette and fly wheel pipette as weapons while manically chasing my fellow labrats down through the lab. Of course, he has to have my labcoat and badge to gain access, so there they are, replete with way too many pens in the pocket (trust me, you can never have enough pens). That's my bench in the background, which is what's taking me forever to finish. I suck at drawing manmade things.

Sorry for the silence on my end; it's been extremely hectic on my end. I hope to finish this illo very soon, and when I do, I'll repost it. Work has seriously picked up because the weather has gotten cold and in three days, I've only had five minutes total break. I have to sit down and look at the bench to ink/shade it in - I don't even have time to sit down! Anyway, have a good giggle; I do every time I see it!

Oh man, this takes me back to college...I HATED lab time. I always blamed it on my poor eye sight, but the truth is that I never saw the point of looking in a microscope when the whole organism was a lot more fun to chase around. I suppose that's why the people who could do the lab-stuff had a better chance at finding jobs...cuz most of us students felt the way I did!
Anyhoo, great picture, though his flowy hair and pants make me wince at the thought of what is going to get knocked over on the counter. |

I think the background's looking great! It REALLY looks like a lab counter -- it's extremely evocative.
*I* look at his flowy hair and pants and *I* think "tragic bunsen burner accident"... although perhaps it's not that kind of lab, so he's safe. ;-) |

It MIGHT be a tragic bunsen burner accident just waiting to happen if my lab had one. We have the gas hookups for them, but we don't need to use them in my specific department. What I have trouble with (and he likely would too if he did my work instead of maniacally chasing my fellow labrats around) are my sleeves. Damn things always get in the way and I've knocked all kinds of lab stuff over as a result. I'm glad you think the bench and background look good; I'm honestly struggling with it. Just not happy with how it's turning out.

It's tough finding a lab job, actually; just not enough positions available for the people looking to have them. Sorry to have triggered nightmarish memories!
Nope, I'd be more worried about the damn sleeves. The hair would just need a serious cleaning afterwards, especially since I deal with a very infectious canine disease (that can be transmitted to humans quite readily). I loved lab time; hated the classes (usually brutally boring). Don't have to deal with microscopes much; I did far more of that (and the bunsen burner thing - which caught my sleeves on fire on more than one occasion) when I worked research. Oh, great, now I'm homesick for research work (but not my coat sleeves). |
