I don't think such a topic exists on this board; but I'd certainly be interested in it if it did. Would it be about fan fiction writing in general or writing for EQ specifically? Or about the art of writing anything?

P.S. I've finally transformed into a Wolf now. I'm so happy. I feel just like Kimo when he first did it.  :D  ;D  :D

Thanks for the heads up! Good to know there's something new on the way. I'm not really one to speculate though, I'll just wait patiently...
I'm not much for speculation either, afke. It'll be what it will be, and come when it comes, is my motto. I'm just glad EQ (the comic) hasn't been put on an indefinite back burner.

Some of you may already know this, but I thought I'd pass it along to those who haven't heard. Wendy and Richard Pini are putting into motion concrete plans for the long-awaited "Final Quest" storyline. There's a new topic thread at Elfquest.com where she comments on this (and there's a link in it to her Facebook comments' page). There's also a lovely (but disturbing) piece of speculative art about it that she uploaded. It's causing a lot of commentary. Check it out if you have the time.

A very interesting role reversal.  8) I'll be intrigued to see where this leads.

Art and Elfquest / Re: Scanner - which to buy
« on: August 04, 2010, 04:38:50 AM »
I always read artist comments saying "Scanner ate my colors" and such, but I've never really had that problem, because I alter the image before saving.

Yeah, I've never really understood that myself, since even the low-end scanners generally have some sort of software bundled in to allow you to do simple editing before the image is saved. Sometimes I almost want to say to someone who posts such a comment, "Well, why don't you rescan your image and tweak it it until it is 'right' and then post it."  :D

Though I usually only use my scanner's editor to boost contrast, change size, or make something grayscale to save on filesize. I've got 3 or 4 CG programs if I want to do anything fancier.

I wish I had some insight to share as well, but all the scanners I've had had been fairly interchangeable. I tend to buy cheap scanners anyways, since I am usually only scanning sketches or lineart that I intend to alter in PS.

I get a lot of use out of mine, both for art scans and for the OCR software that was bundled in with it. And I shan't say anything more than that.  ;) ;D

My old reliable Lexmark PrintTrio hasn't given me a lick of trouble in the last six years. And now that I've said that, it'll probably break down tomorrow. :D The first one that I had was a cheap, crappy Acer that I wanted to toss out a window, then I had a used HP that was on its last legs. In the US at least, they're all pretty much at a comparable price point and reliability. HP does have a rep for decent quality.

Great design, Silentleaf! Very colorful and dynamic. Adding a touch or two of white lace to the outfit would really frame the rest well and give the character a bit of ladylike-ness to contrast with her kickassery.  ;D

;D I've had it bookmarked for a while. Beats trying to blind search Google Images for poses and the stuff that pops up then (yikes!)

I like the atmosphere and grittiness of this piece. It feels like they can only depend on themselves and each other for their survival.

Get out! I just watched The Last Unicorn last night 'cause I found a super-cheap copy of the 25th anniversary dvd at a local store. Brought back lots of memories. I love how you captured the Rankin-Bass stylized backgrounds, with their almost pointillist-tapestry look. Last Unicorn/EQ would make for a great crossover.

Thanks! I tried to think of the last thing Raven would ever wear. But has to, because her dad gave it to her.  :P  I liked how it turned out so much, I made a TT girls sleepover pic, too. If I ever finish it, I'll post it here.

Loving the distressed look of the bodice.  :o Is it real leather/suede?

Art and Elfquest / EQ Plush Doll Tutorial
« on: July 10, 2010, 08:26:35 AM »

[Hi, everyone! I've been meaning to pull this project together for quite some time, but Peacepine prompted me to finally do it. ;D It's not posted complete yet, 'cause I don't have access to most of my crafting supplies at the moment. I'll also be posting a Clay doll tutorial (someday ;) )]

Materials:
felt squares (2 fleshtone plus assorted colors)
thread (in matching colors)
fibrefill stuffing
craft glue (Tacky or Sobo)
acrylic paints
doll hair (can be synthetic/mohair/yarn etc.)
fabric scraps
embroidery floss
cotton swab

pattern template (see attached file)
  Pieces:
#1 - head (front)                 #6 - sole of foot
 #2 - head (rear)                   #7 - ear
 #3 - torso (front)         #8 - eye
 #4 - torso (rear)            #9 - mouth
 #5 - leg

Tools:
craft scissors
pencil or fabric marker
stuffing tool (small dowel/knitting needle etc.)
needles (hand sewing/chenille/doll or soft-sculpture - at least 4" in length)
paint brush

A sewing machine isn’t absolutely necessary for this doll’s construction, but it will make your work go much faster than hand sewing! This tutorial also assumes you know a basic minimum about hand sewing (e.g. how to make a running stitch, wrong side and right side of fabric, etc.) If you don’t, this project might be a little too advanced for you. I’m sorry, but really don’t have the time nor the inclination to teach a Sewing 101 class. ;D

Steps:

1) Take one square of fleshtone felt and trace pattern pieces #1, 2, 3, & 4 onto it with a pencil or fabric marker. Refer to the pattern layout for spacing. Fold the second square in half and trace pieces #5, 6, & 7 onto the doubled fabric. Piece #7 is traced twice because a double-thickness of fabric is needed for the ears. Copy the dotted lines on Pieces #1 & 3 to the felt. The traced lines will be the “wrong” side of the fabric.

2) Carefully cut out the felt pieces on the red outer lines (not the black and dotted ones). Lightly glue the first two ear pieces together, then the second pair,  and set aside to dry.

3) With flesh-colored thread, sew a dart on the dotted line of Piece #1. Then sew the two darts in Piece #3. These darts give the doll’s head and body its rounded shaping.

4) Sew Pieces #1 & 2 together on the dotted line, keeping the darted side outward. Be sure to leave the top of the head unstitched so that you can turn the head right-side out and stuff with fiberfill.

[TBC]

All of these are really fabulous! I think I like the mushroom one the best. I'm rather impressed with how you treat your light and shadows.

Woo, some great designs, there. I really like the way their hair was done.
