I've wanted to ask this since I first saw your thread, but I never got around to posting the description of Wildfire. So, here goes: I'd be eternally grateful if you'd draw Wildfire for me. Feel free to go nuts with the outfit :D Description: http://www.elfquestfanart.com/index.php?topic=77.msg519#msg519

Name: Wildfire
Birth-tribe: Wolfriders
Parents: Rayek and Ember
Age: Approximately 135 years (born mortal, but had it removed)

Appearance: Angular face (think Rayek, but slimmer), slim, not very curvy body, tan skin, yellow/orange eyes. Black hair with two red locks in the front which are sometimes hanging loose and sometimes tied up with two golden beads.
Attire: Undecided

Role:Hunter/magic-user, occasionally a wanderer
Skills: Firestarter, minimal self-shaping skills

Personality: Fierce and somewhat hostile towards most elves which can be troublesome combined with her firestarting abilities. She's easily ticked off, and definitely not afraid of a fight. She does however have problems knowing her limits, so if she's sufficiently angry she'd attempt to take on an army. She can be gentle at times, but usually only the first few months after she returned from a trip.
Background: Wildfire's magic manifested itself the first time she didn't get her way immediately which caused a small fire in the holt. As her temper-tantrums grew closer, she became a great nuisance to the Wolfriders, and the Wavedancers agreed to take her in. Here she became greatly fascinated with the Wavedancer's shaping of their bodies, ornamental as well as practical, and she vowed that she would master the art of self-shaping. She has had very limited success but during an extraordinary bout of anger, she managed to change the colour of two locks of her hair to red.
(I remembered the explanation! Yay! .. Though it's rather weak.. Ah well...)
After re-joining the Wild Hunt at an age of 23 Wildfire soon figured out that she would sometimes need to get away from the other elves. At these time she would leave for a period of time ranging from a few months to a year or two before she'd unexpectedly show up in the holt of the Father-Tree or the Wild Hunt the Wavedancer's beach or even the Go-Back's lodge. She always leaves unaccompanied except for her wolf-friend. Wildfire rarely visits the Father-Tree though, because of the unparalleled hostility between Cutter and herself. As of yet, their differences hasn't been resolved.

I had another doll of her once, years ago, but it disappeared ;( I also remember a portrait of her made by Wolfeyezz which has also disappeared. Sigh..

I've probably forgotten something, but I'll edit this post as it comes back to me.

There were a couple of contests each month. One for fan-fictions and one for fan-art.
There were awards for the winner and the runner-up. One can be seen on http://users.skynet.be/NewstarsDen/ , the frontpage.
I believe there were three judges, Amanda, Dartfan and a third.

There were also an art-trade thing where you could decide if you wanted to join in, then you were randomly paired and then you had to submit your picture within a month or so.

Hmm.. Are you sure it's not the correct breast? In Wolfrider she's shown as right-handed (bow in left hand) and the Amazons would cauterize their right breast in order to avoid it getting in the way. When I make an archery pose, I can't see what the purpose of squashing the left breast would be. You're twisting your body so that the left breast is clear anyway. ???

Meh.. I'm not an expert, I was just a bit puzzled.

Hah, it's my most daring picture EVER xD

Sigh.. The head is always too big. I really need to get a grasp on the proportions...
About the outfit, that's too bad. Sort of a mistake that stays with you xD it's awesome though :D
Thanks for the C/c:D

Hmm, the site says that the goal is to create a million pieces of art. So, as many as possible I think

It looks like this only started last year, but it's definitely a cool concept. I'm in :D

No, I haven't done anything like that. Truth be told, I'm not sure there *is* a simple way to do water...it's always confounded me a little.

I did a quick search over at deviant art. Not sure if that's what you already did, but...did you find this one?

http://policide.deviantart.com/art/Water-Surface-Tutorial-104257901
Yes, I did search on DA, but I didn't find that one. However, it seems much more simple than what I found. But you're right. Not quite that kind of water.

Quote from: Foxeye
That's probably the wrong kind of water. You could try something like I did with Dreamweaver:

Keep it a basic gray-blue, add a few white "swirls", and use a brush on low opacity to hint at body parts under the water. I pretty much lifted this style from Wendy, so looking at her water style would be a good idea (couple of examples in the Crescent scene).
Neat. I'll try that. It's the right look and it seems like something I might be capable of getting right xD Thanks a bunch!

« on: May 12, 2009, 09:40:49 AM »
So.. I'm trying to colour my picture of Clearbrook, but I encountered a problem I hadn't really anticipated (silly me): I have no idea of how to draw water. Does anyone have a simple tuturial for drawing water (digitally)? All of the tuturials I've found have been rather advanced.

I hope someone can help  :)

(Btw, since this is a site for art, wouldn't a sub-forum for tuturials and art-talk be appropriate? Just a thought)

Uhm.. If one colours another persons lineart, is it allowed to put it in a seperate album, with credit given where due of course? Or should I out it up somwhere on the forum?

Well.. A mix of the two would fit better. I'm not as "mean spirited" as yours, but I'm definitly not a um. daisy xD But I think I'll stick to mine, thank you very much :D

You Are a Daisy
"You are just a sweet person. When a friend needs a shoulder to cry on, you are happy to offer yours with a box of tissues as well. Once in awhile, you wish you could be a little more dramatic but then sensibility sets back in and you know that you are perfect the way you are."

.... That's so not true.

*grins*

Makes me think of the vildvittror and vittror (mostly mentioned and acted upon) in the Ronja Rövardotter (Ronia, the Robber's Daughter) movie. Basically the Swedish version and some more creatively created ones to suit the movie, of the huldufólk :)
I loved that movie when I was a kid! Ronja is an awesome character <3

I dunno. Might well be..

Are the links beneath the picture + calender formatted? Doesn't look like that to me, but I might be wrong

This one? It's on the official site, just like the rest of the chosen pictures for the other calenders. I don't know if anyone have the pictures that wasn't picked though...

Draw-overs are great. No problem there

Art and Elfquest / Re: Recent Items - how many?

How about a "random pictures" function displaying 5 or so random pictures? That way, even if it isn't a new item, it might get som extra attention. I think, once this site grows bigger, alot of the older pictures might "disappear".
