In Anondraw Mermaid!Winnowill - Posted Jan 26, 2020
Hey Czarine, sure thing, feel free to change things around as well if you need to! I'd love to see how you'd do it, that would be really cool :D
In Anondraw Kureel - 2020 - Posted Jan 26, 2020
This turned out really well! I can't believe that I forgot that you'd drawn so many Gliders :lol
In Memory of Times Past by April Suzanne Durfee Landon - Posted Jan 23, 2020
Oooooooh I love that you drew young Winnowill! Another one of my faves, I'm happy to see your rendition of her and Voll. And oh wow the Egg is just fantastic! It looks like watercolour, but with something opague for the highlights - gel pen? Or gouache? Either way, the effect is gorgeous.
In Wrong Side of the Pit by Sheryl Schopfer - Posted Jan 23, 2020
:D I love this different take on a familiar scene! The magic aura thing looks good, subtle but it's still very clear what's happening, nicely done!
In Resillience by Berit Jurda - Posted Jan 23, 2020
Ooooo very cool! I love the steely stare of Urda and the perspective of the sword is really fab! Very dynamic and I like the colder colours that you've used.
In You Realize This Is My Bed, Right? by Wildfire - Posted Jan 23, 2020
Thank you all for your kind words!  :love I know that a lot of people don't really know these characters, the whole FutureQuest setting seemed to turn a lot of people off, and the storytelling *was* quite different from "normal" Elfquest  :lol I'm not even sure of how much is still canon now that Stargazer's Hunt is coming out (which I haven't read), but I'm glad I got to draw this group.

Characterwise, the green dragon thing is Firstborn Newbreed, a Neverending serving as a kind of liason between the humans and the Neverending if I remember correctly. He's not exactly friendly, rather rude, and it takes a while for him to become part of the group.
The blond human is Kullyn Ken, Jink and Tamia's boyfriend. He has some sending capabilities. His outfit in the comics is straight up Boring, so I played a bit around with it.
The dark-haired lady is Tamia, girlfriend of Kullyn and Jink. She has a bunch of issues with insecurity and self-worth, but one of my favourite scenes in the comic is where Jink shows her through sending how she looks to Jink.
And lastly Jink of course. An enigma wrapped in an enigma. I remember lots of discussions on her heritage back in the early 00's on the SoC  :lol She's got so many outfits, but Wendy recreated an old cover (or poster?) of her with the shawl and a red dress, so I decided to go with something similar.

@JaRF - the "story" is that it's Firstborn Newbreed's bed, and that the trio is rudely interrupting his early morning with their decadent (not a wrong word at all lol) partying and the humans eventually falling asleep much to his dismay and Jink's amusement  ;)
In Nightcrawler by Berit Jurda and Czarine - Posted Jan 05, 2020
Maaaaaan this is a successful collaboration! This submission is one of my favourites this year, it caught my eye immediately. I'll add my voice to the chorus of "I didn't expect Madcoil, but hot damn!". Well done!
In In the Bliss of Now by Leigh Davis - Posted Jan 05, 2020
Ahhh this is so great. These two are very high up on my favourites list, I'm so happy you drew them! It's so tender and soft, a very sweet moment. I really like that you included the wolfpack, the animals are very much a part of Teir, seeing them watching from the darkness is very fitting.
In Catch by Yavia - Posted Jan 05, 2020
This is great! Vurdah looks like she's taking the other girls' advances a bit too personally lmao. The small plants and details in the environment makes the image feel very complete, great job!
I also adore your Starjumper, that's a great style for the wolves.
In Back to the Beginning by ShuijE - Posted Jan 05, 2020
This is lovely, more calm than most of the other submissions and very mellow in a way. The heavy shadows on his clothes are very true to the inking method used in the old comics, and the colours are lovely.
And I love the wink!
In Mending by Czarine - Posted Jan 05, 2020
There's so much happening in this image, every part adding to the story without it becoming crowded - that's hard!
As always, the colours are fabulous, I really like the blueish shadowed undergrowth turning green in the sun. And your lineart is so crisp!
In Find Your Name, Kitling by Startear - Posted Jan 05, 2020
Oooh I love Rahnee! It's great to see art of her, she's such a killer character. I really like your choice of scene, very dramatic and emotional. Makes me want to reread the anthologies!
In Completion by Treefox - Posted Jan 05, 2020
This is fab. The way you do hair always makes me a bit starryeyed, it has such a great flow and ahhh. So pretty. I really like that you included their wolves as well <3
Was this one entirely digital or did you start with a traditional sketch? The medium works well for you!
In No More Tunnel of Golden Light by Afke van Herpt - Posted Jan 05, 2020
This is fabulous, I adore your colourwork! It's always great to see your traditional works, they have a great "feel" to them, very old-school and vibrant. The detail in the rocks and crystals is really nice, it's never just about the characters with your art which is wonderful!
In The Joy of Celebrating Recognition by Ric Rijnders - Posted Jan 05, 2020
Ohh so many characters! Getting so many parts to be a coherent whole is always difficuly, but this is lovely and easy to read, well done! I like that you have a clear foreground/middleground/background, it really elevates the composition to another level. The colours are great as well!
In Out from the Deep by Maggie - Posted Jan 05, 2020
This is gorgeous as always! Your lineart always impresses me, it bold and soft at the same time which is wonderful. Love the colours and the film grain-esque look really adds to the impression of it being underwater.
In Game of Elves - Posted May 30, 2019
Ohhhh nice! Ember on a dragon really tickles me, what a concept! Winnowill's outfit looks fab and very Night King-esque at the same time.
In Javelin - Posted May 30, 2019
Man, the hair is always a staple of your work. I really like your inks, you have a wonderful style!
In Leetah - Posted May 30, 2019
This looks pretty sweet, what program do you use? I'm happy to give some feedback, I hope it's not too harsh! I really like it, you're definitely on the right track.

The face: It's close, but there is a bit of an strange feel to it. Translating EQ features to 3D is difficult for sure and personally I'd deviate more from the original design to make it a bit more compelling in 3D, for example making the lips fuller and enlarging the nose. The ears could use a bit more detail, compared to the face they seem very simplistic from this angle at least.
The hair looks really good, the only thing I would maybe change there is to make it fuller, but that's not really necessary. More of a preference.

The clothes: The shading on the clothes draws a lot of attention. The boots look like satin, but in a very CG way. The beige on the boots confuse me as well, are they heels or flats?
I'd tone down the specularity of the skirt, it looks very plastic-y. As a sidenote, watch out for the skirt when you animate, you'll probably see a fair bit of texture distortion. I'd probably simplify the texture to something with a smaller pattern or a (not completely uniform) gradient, it'll be more forgiving if she's going to do twirls and dances as she does in the comic. Are you planning on simulating the fabric or handanimating it?
The design on the clothes is really pretty though, the top looks very nice! I like the neckline and the sleeves especially, very cute.

In general I'd "dirty it up a bit", add some imperfections and some grit to the textures. Not a lot, but CG shaders can easily become very flat if they're too smooth.

I can see that there's definitely been put a lot of work in this already, and I think it'll look brilliant when animated. Well done! I'm looking forward to seeing the more.
In A Wolfrider's Bond by Wildfire - Posted Jan 24, 2019
@Tah-Marien Thank you! I wanted to do 3D specifically because it would be something a bit different for the calendar, I always enjoy seeing people's different styles :)

@Yavia, I wish! I'd love to work on an EQ short! Honestly, I didn't really need to use that many programs, I could've done all of it in Maya and some of the "programs" I mentioned are smaller parts of Maya. Xgen is the built-in hair/fur/grass/etc system for example, and Arnold is the default render engine. A program within a program if you will. Thank you!
