Daring an optimistic outlook towards this year I'd say:
I would like to join.

Well, should we now start thinking about possible topics for next year?

That is fairly unfortunate, but there should be plenty of printing services around the world. In my town most copy shops offer more or less good services and then we do have some real printer-shops, some even to very large textile prints. Question is, do these kind of shops offer something like print-on-demand and international shipment?

But the pure topic choice shouldn't be affected by e.g. side ratios for printed calendars, should it? I mean, it just that we'll probably lose a month for having a choice of topic; and who knows how progress will vary over the year.

Yes, that is the fanbook.

By the way: what about topic discussion / voting for 2020?

I hope I'll find the time to comment on all the entries, soon... *sigh* RL work...

Have a great Christmas, everyone. Enjoy the time, be with kind people and have a good start into the coming year!

No updates yet but I assume things are proceeding well. It'll be interesting to see the results.
And we can already speculate what topic there will be for next year.

Humm, maybe the list might still see some additions.
Still glad I decided to do something, see how thing would proceed and then possibly submit. (Wasn't sure how this year would "develop", so I was hesitant to say yes, I'll get something done.) It was a close call, though. Had to kick myself hard, was very busy at work, so had little time and power left for art. And I kicked myself til 3 o'clock at night to meet the deadline. :)

So much for time management, but regardless how I plan, and even with buffers, usually something (many-somethings) come/s inbetween and things get frantic in the end.

Sometimes even time management doesn't help things. ;)

« on: February 27, 2018, 11:15:48 PM »
It should be roughly midnight now in some Amercian timezone(s). That means it's ElfQuest's 40th birthday. And thus also the reason for this site - and the reason why some of us started with art, or were at least influenced by it.

Happy birthday ElfQuest! And hopefully good years to come.

And maybe with schedules being less tense after FQ is through, there will be time for relaxed storytelling with a line of beauty added once in a while. :)
I'll be sending out Rayek now to deliver some greetings. ;)

Maybe ask Maggie via PM, she keeps track of all the bonds. On a second thought I think it was to be kept secret who's taking an approach on which couple / combination. Thus the direct pairings might not be visible too obviously.

But stick to anything Rayek, that's always good. ;)
At the moment there is only "young Rayek + young Leetah" mentioned (they also appeared in the same update, so you can guess something from that) - but that might not rule out this pair in general.

(edit2: maybe you haven't been here for a while, just in that case and in case it doesn't work for you either: email notifications about updates are broken)

One must just start to complain... got it today. Had a little dent in all corners (was probably dropped during shipment, wrapping also had this bump) but was okay otherwise. Basic quality is like last year, tick paper that resembles cardboard more than paper, a very gentle silky shine. Doesn't scream CMYK too obviously, so the colours are good, better than what I saw on other printed things that originated from RGB images. Well, detail vanishes due to the size. CMYK transaltion eats then a little more. E.g. similar tones on each other vanish completely, the letters on the cups at Pike's bar in my entry aren't visible, Pike has freckles that are vanished, the fancy pompoms at Ahdri's shoes are only visible if you know they're there, the dreamberries... well, at least the overall image is there. ;)

So I learn that 3300x2550 is not enough for detail and especially CMYK-printed even less. And I should do less detail.

I'm still waiting for it. International shipment, customs, local post system, the usual... but the one from last year was of good quality, as far as I can judge that (at least it didn't scream CMYK at me).

Hum, the images don't render completely here, but I can get that sorted out on my box. I especially like the use of libre software, here. :)

In my case every step takes longer. ;) Even looking for references, or creating references.
Ah, and there is so much new art lately and I have so little time! Also need time to get myself into GIMP or Krita. *sigh*

I voted for an open topic, that still allows to add everything else.

I think til now it was always quite canon, means, mostly canon characters, or at least a focus on canon ones. The scenery was usually what is possible in the world of two moons.

I guess we will have more ideas than artists in the end and might end up with a lot of nice ideas for topics but also wide-spread votes, like every topic one or two votes. Uh-oh. ;)
Therefore I like topics that leave a lot of freedom so one can still include all sorts of stuff. E.g. daily life could include favourite characters, rare characters, fashion, humour, emotions of all sorts, animals,...

After a pause with no working notifications (summer/autumn) it seems to start working again. Still hic-ups, and some delayed, but whatever changed recently it seems to have improved things to a certain extent at least on my side.

Ah, it's too long ago I heard it. And I never got the tape or CD officially. I mean, well, um, at the time I got notice of it I did not have a credit card for international purchases and it was hard to obtain anyway. I remember the artist was mainly Julia Ecklar (correctly spelled?). I should give it a listen somehow, again.
Just looked up the lyrics:

@jaRf You make me damn curious about one of your favorite moments that was allready done in a calendar :lol

Look at 2008 and make a guess.. ;)

For the free-as-in-beer availability of FQ: I think that depends. If you give publishing rights to a publishing house it depends on the contract if you can cross-license it to the generic audience on your website. Maybe they have some agreement with DarkHorse that they can put it up online as soon as FQ on paper is sold out, maybe not.

I know that this is supposed to be the final tale but you never know, you know. ;)

It was said that she (Wendy) would prefer not to have deadlines and stuff (and maybe to have time to explore other fields, too), so there might be more, it just would likely be less regular then - and thus also with less pressure for both.

Hence I'd also be a little reluctant with a goodbye topic. For a favourite moments of 40 years ... well, there are plenty of moments also outside FQ, if we want to keep the spoilers out, but then, (one of) my favourite moment(s) was already done in a calendar...

Uh-oh.

Um, maybe both check mailboxes?
EyesHigh76, you might want to check sent mails and even drafts (maybe it wasn't sent but remained as a draft? happened to me once), check also sent mails for the date when it was send (an to the correct address?), maybe that helps Maggie to check if something arrived.
Maggie might look at inbox, older mails, Spam, subdirectories ("folders") - maybe it was automatically moved elsewhere due to a filter rule?

Would a multiple-choice poll be possible? Like, people can vote for topics that they are generally fine with? I see that I will have a hard time already to choose.
