Art and Elfquest / Re: [Tools of the Trade] - Inking
« on: January 30, 2013, 04:19:00 AM »
I'm not certain why 'handed-ness' should make a difference in smearing a work (or not). A right-handed person would typically start inking at the left upper or lower corner of their paper and work across. A left-handed person should probably work from the right upper or lower. And one can always cover their work with an elevated sheet or cardboard, as well.

It would help greatly with your story's readability if you would put in paragraph breaks.  :)

WTF?

 ???

I don't know what happened here! I will try to get this back up shortly.

It happened during the switchover. A lot of members' fanfiction got garbled, truncated, or just plain went missing.  :'(

Loving the pictures, Jeb! Especially the fish!! Would you mind if I used a couple of them as reference photos?

Wow...if I was a European fan of EQ, I'd be laying out a 'WTF?!?', right now. :-\  But, as a dyed-in-the-red-white-and-blue US fan, I'd hazard what they're 'strongly prejudiced against' is not so much digital art as the subsequent dulled-down over-simplification of form and substance it's engendered in EQ comics for the past 10+ years.  ???  Going by that sample cover, it seems like EQ is regressing to the Hanna-Barbera/Filmation cel animation of the 80's.

I love that Pool has some One-Eye in him!

And maybe they're all on a family vacation...who needs clothes then?  ;D

I really like that 'gypsy-maid' piece. The color choices are great! It kinda reminds me of a series that somebody did of all the Disney girls done as mermaids. :)

Jeb, I hope you plan on re-posting your work. I'm missing Rayek's story. :'(

Fun! I really like that she can talk with animals (but it's not easy for her.) Will she be appearing with the Wavedancers? We hardly ever see any fanfic with them in it.

I do very much like your mermaid piece, especially the dynamic lighting. She's like other sea creatures who produce their own bio-luminescence.

Thoroughly fab dragons, Windrider! I think I  prefer the scaly, articulated armor skin style of dragon, too. I wonder if the old-school dragon style will make a comeback when The Hobbit opens and everyone sees and hears Smaug (voiced by the yummy Benedict Cumberbatch)?

It's a novelization of EQ issues #6-11. In other words, the written-out book form.

I have an old copy of The Quest Begins to give away to whoever wants it and asks for it first. The book is the novelization of GN #2 (EQ #6-11?) Be warned: it's an old library copy so it's a little beat up but perfectly readable. All I'd need is shipping cost to where you live and it's yours!

As posted on the ElfQuest FB page:
From Wendy: This trio has an unusual dynamic and much to do in "Elfquest: The Final Quest."

Oh hell yeah. ;D

Geeze...if only Aurek were in that picture, too, it could totally be a illo for my fan story. (sigh)

I changed "2 - The Trouble With Pery" in your story thread. It looks like it survived, though I have a backup of what it was before I made the change. Could you look it over and see if you can spot any glaring errors?  If that works OK, I'll clean up the others the same way.

Thanks, Foxeye! Above and beyond the call of duty.

Except for the apostrophes turning into question marks and some missing punctuation, all the text looks like it's there. Tho I'll probably re-post anyway, 'cause it'd be easier than fixing all that stuff inside the posts.

I'm thinking it's just the story posts where I copy-pasted the info from another program. The ones where I just made comment posts seem to be fine. I noticed in some other writers' threads, some of their story post seem to be missing, too. But in others', they're not. :-\

I've tried to edit one of my posts, and the field was totally blank. I'm afraid to try to mess with it anymore, in case doing that wipes the entire thread. Do any of the Admins have an answer to this question?

Guides & Guidelines / Character Limit in Posts?
« on: March 12, 2012, 02:21:54 PM »
Does anyone know what the current character limit is inside individual posts? I looked at some of my fic post and they've been severely truncated (to like 1-2 paragraphs) and chopped up. Will I need to re-post them to correct that? Thanks!

Stupid question of the day:

What does "work-safe" actually mean? My dictionary is no help. and yes - I know the meaning of both "work" and "safe" ;)

Something that, if it shows up on your computer screen at work, you wouldn't mind your boss or co-workers seeing. ;D

Well, we could be talking about spaghetti and meatballs, and it wouldn't be a problem, either. But, we're not talking about that, or, Japanese comics.  ;D

I'm crossing my fingers that I'll be able to finish in time, but it's iffy.

My problem is that I saved my cg program from my main pc to a flash drive so that could use it with my laptop after I moved. I tested it out and everything before I left and it was loading up and working fine. But now that I'm in AZ, it's saying it can't find the release key and it's acting like it's a trial version of the program. No saving, no printing, no fancy stuff. I do have the key boxed up with some art supplies in a care package that my brother should be shipping to me sometime this week, so if I get that, I might be able to finish in time.

I know, some might think the obvious solution is to use Gimp or some PS-type freeware, but I've tried those before and found them to be little more than massive exercises in headache and frustration. I need a more intuitive, painterly-style program. :'(

Here are a few visual aids that might help, Berit...

And this is what you should get...

Those options should show up everytime you create a topic or reply to one. You might not see them if you quote someone else, but there should be a link to them there.:D
