Well - it is writing and has 3 pages - and it is misplaced. No idea whether it's your missed notes, Vojira. Do with it what you want.m

One day I will learn not to care.

I just tried to give you back your work (if possible at all), Vojira - not to lure you back.  :'( I'm sorry I've bothered you.

I pretty much had a minor mental breakdown last night when I found out one of my threads that I used for writing, has disappeared. It was 3 pages long.
I don't mind the new look of the (tho there is one thing that seems odd to me) but now my stuff is gone and the damn link I had to it just takes me to the freaking 'Battlefield' group. :argh
Would you mind to tell me what thread you are talking about? Do you remember the exact name? Was/is it a group related thread? In this case i might have an idea where it is.

Nothing wrong with the site.

Richard was running a total backup, and he hoped it would go much faster faster if the site is offline. Previous backups took most of a day because they had to work around the functioning site. Well - it doesn't seem to be as successful as he hoped for.

Richard: OK, lesson learned. Do not EVER attempt a backup of the Elfquest site THAT way again. It's back in business now.

(from Facebook http://www.facebook.com/elfquest)

Sorry, don't know how to link properly.

I wish you all good luck for a smooth "take over" and with rebuilding step by step what might be missing after the restart!

Dead Thread Archive / Re: Site Rules

Ah ... in my case that would mean to avoid ANY site that is not directly related to my work. ;)

But I get the point - thank you, Medea!

Stupid question of the day:

Quote
Directly link, in the forums, only pictures and other material that are work-safe. Use a text-link if you wish to share a picture or other material that is not work-safe, and clearly label what we can find at the other end of that link.

What does "work-safe" actually mean? My dictionary is no help. and yes - I know the meaning of both "work" and "safe" ;)

Chit-Chat / Re: What flower are you? (online quiz)
« on: February 25, 2012, 04:58:14 AM »

I definitely like the flower  :)

and it's flattering what it is supposed to mean

"You stand up for what you believe in, even if it gets in the way of what other people think. You are proud of yourself and your accomplishments and you enjoy letting people know that."

But honestly ... I hardly recognize myself. Too good - and much too strong! - to be true.

What is currently happening is that Warg and Mirr are basically going to do what you suggest on Warg's server. There's a team of members who have volunteered to act as mods on the new incarnation of the site, and the transition is being hashed out in a private section of this forum.
So things are proceeding and there's a good chance EQFA will stay?  :)

*snickers* Your rant comic made me grin, Nilla. Good to see that you can make fun even from "Scroll deprivation".

(Well ... in fact I could not see it for two days ... for me it disappeared shortly after you had uploaded it ... until I refreshed the page today. The later postes showd well, tho ...)

And ... I love to read the headline of the last panel  :)

Judging from the little information Facebook gives, the "ServerWizards" are still working, Richard is not pleased - saying it in a polite way - and everyone has to wait.

Makes me think of the "minor issues" when disfunctional hardware was changed in my computer ... *sits down and waits patiently* ... this can take time  ::)

Just want to let you know that Sofia is organizing the Secret Santa on Elfquest.com again.

Deadlines
- You can sign up until the 14th of December.
- You get your assignment on the 15th of December.
- Your gift should be finished and given to your recipient on the 6th of January.

In case someone is interested to participate please PM Sofia.

You can get the info here:
http://www.elfquest.com/social/index.php?do=/forum/-5/secret-santas-3/

For anyone who is not sure what this is, it is an exchange of gifts of art or stories. You PM Sofia with what you can do (drawings, writing, banners, etc.) and also some ideas of what you would like to see in art or a story. On December 15th Sofia will send you the requests of another participant. You will make a drawing or story or whatever based on their suggestions and PM it to them. The deadline for gift delivery will be Jan. 6.

Those kittens are adorable! *heart*

And a handful to bring up for sure. It's great what you are doing. Must be hard to give them away - even when you know they will get a good home.

« on: November 20, 2011, 06:21:01 AM »
My cousin once surprised me with Original Wavedancers #6 for birthday - the issue I was missing to complete story collection. :-) He picked up in a conversation that I couldn't get it.

And two books of the Elfquest Archives much later - but these were birthday presents I had suggested.

Art and Elfquest / Re: Complete Elfquest (unused) Movie Script Online
« on: October 09, 2011, 06:09:23 PM »
A bit late to post about the  old 1994 storyboard, I know ;) Nevertheless:

There were (and will be) necessary changes to keep the story dense and and managable within a 90 / 120 minutes movie - I understand..
Some of the changes in this storyboard are okay, some are surprising, interesting or even good.
Others seem unnecessary, irritating, over-simplyfied ... and some are changing the whole story into an Alternate Universe.

For me it looks like there was a pilot for a kids program TV show planned - instead of bringing the Elves and their Quest on the big screen. Actually I decided to look at it as an AU story for a MUCH younger audience ... and only for them.

I like:
- The ART! Even in a comparably sketchy state it's a treat! I love to look at the drawings.
- The many "quotes", scenes that are included from the original story line. Fun to find them!
- The singing. Well ... it fits THIS kind of children movie, so I'm okay with it HERE.

I dislike:
- The Recognition. It has become some sort of "love at first sight", almost meaningless.
- The role of the Tribe (and Leetah). Waiting to be rescued by the ONE hero (and his sidekick).
The Wolfriders have become just background figures - instead of being the center of Cutter's concern, active members and important portagonists during the original storyline.
- The singing. Pleeeease ... NOT in the REAL movie we hope to get!
- Rayek. He is one of my favorite chars in EQ ... in this storyline he's sort of a caricature. PLAIN selfish, PLAIN evil, and partly ridiculous in it's exaggeration ... the typical "has-to-beaten-down-super-villian". Unlikable and not redeemable.

Now I'm curious for the variant storyboard. Hope to be able to look and read through it soon ...

« on: October 05, 2011, 09:29:45 AM »
I was in my mid twenties when I found the first EQ issue (literally #1 ... though it was a translation) - fell in love on second view ... and now I'm longer with EQ than witout  ;)

Art and Elfquest / Re: Translated names
« on: September 25, 2011, 12:44:57 PM »
As I cannot chance what the translators did - and don't expect to find some "absolute truth" in this gathering, I decided to make fun of these mistakes. I'm aware that others feel very different about this issue - someone I asked for help with the French names refused support because he didn't want to be remembered of the "messed up" translation. It actually seemed to hurt him.

Though - bad translation almost kept me from starting to read Elfquest. The title of the the first issue "Fire and Flight" was changed to "When the Evil Gnomes were Coming" ... much too childish for an adult in the middle of her twenties to deal with it. Thanks the High Ones the cover art was irresistable.

@ afke
My dictionay translates "gobbler" as Truthahn (=Turkey).. thus the bird reference. Thanks for the definition.
There seems hardly a proper retranslation for Klatering - none of the offered vocabulary sounds right. In fact Klatering has a sound melody that is very fitting for Clearbrook - while possible retranslations sound plump.
I'd like to add your varient names and translations to my thread. Is this okay for you?

@ Treefox
Thanks :) The German issues (Bastei and the early Carlsen releases) were all I had for a VERY long time. Must admit that I still love them - despite all the flaws.

@ Berit
Thank you! No problem with the retranslations - it's a great start. And I will go through the old thread for possible variations, too.

Is there anyone who could help with the French and Italian translations? Or Spanish ... in case there is one at all?

I'm missing the Finnish translations for my collection, Berit. Would it be okay for you when I use your informations in my thread
on EQ.com?

btw: There is an old thread on EQ.com that has Finnish translations - maybe it will help you to remember.

Rillfisher - Bachfischerin / Rinnsal - Creekfisher / Rill
Wow, so her name changed? Very interesting!
She was Bachfischerin in the Bastai issues when Treestump first tells about his loss in the Go-Back lodge. Somewhen later (don't remember exactly) she was referred to as Rinnsal - maybe in the Carlsen reprints. There were some odd translations there in the beginning.

Mender - Helfer - Helper
Echt? Helfer?
Wasn't he also called Mender the first time we shortly met him in KotBW?
Echt!  :D And you are right - in the one panel when Dewshine and family decided to stay in Sorrow's End he was still Mender in the German translation - and as far as I remember mistaken as a girl  ;D

Quote
Picknose - Pickelnase - Picknose
I always liked this one because of the double meaning:
Pickelnase can mean Picknose but also Pimplenose.
:lol Can I use this, Treefox?

Quote
Old Maggoty - Ouwe Etterbuil - Old pain-in-the-neck
That is just awesome!
Dittos!

@ Afke
I got "Gurgle" for Klatering - does this make sense?
Kwink (= Happy Chatter) for Wing - could there have been a name change?
Amber would be Amber - in case it refers to the honey-colored gem"stone"
Got Grijstof (= Greydust) for Greymung - another name change?
Gobbler for Guttlekraw ... really?! *imagines the big ugly bird*
"Old pain-in-the-neck" is much more fun than the literal translation I got  :evilgrin ...can I add it to my thread?
