Art and Elfquest / Elfquest RPG Character Dice Guide
« on: March 21, 2021, 06:18:06 AM »
Yavia was so kind to write down the how-to of creating a character according to the Elfquest role playing guide. She also made some additional suggestions to dicing your tribe and gender.
Thank you so much, Yavia!
We hope it will inspire people to try their luck with the dice and see, what crazy characters come out.
Also, if you have additions to options, let's just expand this! This is truly fun and a challenge, as you never know what you get.  ;D

Art and Elfquest / Elfquest the Gathering project
« on: August 06, 2012, 12:32:40 PM »
Hello dear members,

as some of you Facebook using people may know, Kitt is trying to organize the first Elfquest convention in the U.S. ever. As I would like to support this project, I though I'd share the link to her Elfquest the Gathering blog here:

http://eqthegathering.tumblr.com/

So if any of you can or want to help out by just naming a possible location or if you just want to join or whatever else is necessary for organizing a successful convention, just send her a message via this site, the blog or Facebook where you can also participate by joining the Elfquest group.

I really wish I could go. Let's see if I'll be able to get the needed time and money together to go to the U.S. and join. Would be such a great opportunity to finally be able to meet a couple of you guys!

Chit-Chat / Share Your Desks/Drawing Spots
« on: March 22, 2012, 01:43:05 PM »
I thought it might be fun to share how and where are working creatively. So I'll post my desk which I use for drawing and my computer. As you can see, I tend to spread to everything within reach with my drawing materials and reference stuff.

As Nightfall has now made her appearance in the 2014 calendar, I can finally post this.  :D

Guides & Guidelines / New Site Rules for EQFA 3
« on: March 13, 2012, 01:19:15 PM »
These message boards are a forum for ElfQuest and its fan creations, as well as the people who are interested in these things. You're welcome to discuss topics that you like, related or not to elfquest and art/writing. We simply ask that you choose the right forum for your posts.

As with any public forum there will be times when we will not all get along. If you have a problem with a fellow forum-goer, please try to resolve the issue through private messages. No need to bother the others over what's basically a private squabble. If you can't resolve your differences, just ignore each others' posts. If that doesn't work, only then come to the moderators.

If you have a problem with how we conduct these forums, please PM any of the moderators before you start a thread about it. Dirty laundry needs to be cleaned and being hush-hush about that kind of stuff isn't necessarily the way to go, but in the interest of maintaining board-peace it'd be good to try to resolve the problem before it escalates to thread-level.

Here are the rules for these boards:

!! Current sig and linking rules !!

Images, Linking & Other Stuff

Please try to avoid excess gore in pictures and stories you upload.

Directly link, in the forums, only pictures and other material that are work-safe. Use a
text-link if you wish to share a picture or other material that is not work-safe, and
clearly label what we can find at the other end of that link.

Maximum allowed image size in forum posts is 800 pixels wide and 1000 pixels tall, and
maximum file size should be 300kilobytes. This limit is enforced. If you want to show a
picture larger than 800 by 1000 pixels or 300kilobytes, please link to it.

Maximum allowed image size in the gallery is 3072 pixels wide and 3072 pixels tall, and
maximum file size should be 3072 kilobytes. This limit is enforced.

Please avoid gallery "flooding." The first page of "recent images" is prime real estate, and we don't
want to push other artists off who only just posted their art.

Signatures & Avatars

    No solicitations in sigs.

    No animated sigs or avatars.

No sigs or avatars with excess gore or explicit sex.

No sigs or avatars with copyrighted content unless you have the artist's permission.

    Maximum sig size: 5 lines of text or a 500 x 150 pixels/100k image + 1 line of text.

    Maximum avatar size: 80 x 80 pixels, 25k image

The Five Easy Ways To Get Banned

Persistently not following forum rules or respecting our authority on these boards.

Persistently not respecting others on these boards.

    Persistently starting flame wars.

Persistently flaming us or ElfQuest. Flaming ElfQuest or us will not get you banned.
    Doing so persistently will.

    Astroturfing (also see shill).

Forum Organization

Posts are organized into different boards like so:

From the Admins - Messages from the staff.

Guides & Guidelines - These are the enduring "how-to" and "what do I do" posts.  Only Admins may start or move posts to this board.

Elfquest - All things on-topic

Art and ElfQuest - This is essentially the "on topic" section of this site. Anything having to do with ElfQuest or artistic endeavors is on topic, and thus is discussed here. EXCEPTION: Please put ElfQuest Fan Fiction in the Writer's Gallery.

Writer's Gallery - A board dedicated for posting ElfQuest fan fiction.

Holts - A place to talk about holts, look for holts, and recruit for holts.

Off-Topic - The place to discuss anything not appropriate to the rest of the site

Chit-Chat - This is the generic off-topic section. Off-topic means stuff not-Elfquest or art.

The Other Art Gallery - This is the place to post your non-Elfquest art. We encourage you to share your non-Elfquest creative pieces, but the gallery itself should be kept Elfquest.

Trading Post - A place to share and trade EQ items. Read trading post rules. All transactions are unsupervised and happen between individual parties. Elfquestfanart.com or its staff does not endorse any transactions facilitated by this board.

Sanctuary - 15+ post members only.

Rants, Bacon, and Boobies! - Here be all of the three items named above. Abandon all hope, ye who enters here. Check any and all feelings at the door.

Site Rules

In Short:

Do not spam, or register with intent to spam.

    Respect creators' copyrights.

Please do not post traced artwork. Tracing, while it can be a useful tool when learning to draw, is not accepted at this site.
If something is blatantly copied from Elfquest or any other type of media it will be deleted from the gallery.
The only exception to this rule is the use of Wendy’s “Model Sheets” but please make sure you mention their use in either the title or the description of your upload.

    Tag mature contents properly.

Do not post non-Elfquest art or stories in the gallery. If you wish to share art or stories
not related to ElfQuest, you can start a thread in the appropriate section of the forum
    (i.e. The Other Art Gallery).

Familiarize yourself with the current sig, avatar, image size, and linking rules in this
thread. These rules may change from time to time, so check back occasionally.

These rules work in conjunction with the user agreement at the bottom of this page,
not in its stead. You must read to and agree to these rules and the user agreement.

Forum Topics That Are Welcome

    Anything not listed below.

Forum Topics That Are Not Welcome

Threads dedicated to flaming an individual or their efforts.

Repeating the same thing over and over and over and over and over and..... in one
    thread.

Commercial solicitations and advertisements. If you're unsure, contact the admins.

Derailed Forum Conversations

If a topic gets de-railed from its original scope the original poster can request via PMs
that we split the off-topic part into a separate thread.

Doing this will help those posters who would like their thread to stay on topic, while allowing threads
to evolve in the organic manner they sometimes do provided the original poster doesn't mind.

We may, at our discretion, split topics if we think that these boards would benefit from
the discussion that's off-subject in the original thread.

Briefly About Copyright

Please keep copyright-infringing material away from this site. Thank you.

If you use someone's photograph as a background, get direct permission from the
original author and give them credit. Content from "free clip-art sites" is not sufficient:
more often than not images in those galleries were taken without asking the artist.

Many times we have found the artwork of friends on such sites and they had no idea
their artwork had been made "free" to the public. Just because a third party says a
picture is free, doesn't mean it is. You need the permission of the actual owner,
whether it be by contacting them, or permission being given on their site.

We know this isn't something that most people are accustomed to, but this site is
intended to be a bastion of respect for others' original creations, and unfortunately this
means a little inconvenience for those who do mixed media art.

Special rules for dolls - Credit (with links) the base maker or originating doll machine. If
you have not done any post-work to a doll that you created in a doll-maker (example:
adjusting clothing, adding jewelry, etc), then please do not upload it here. Such dolls
are so quick and easy to make that if we allowed their upload, they would push art
that takes hours (even days) to make off the front page. You are welcome to share
these in the forums, of course.

Briefly About Mature Content

Mature content must be properly labeled. Image upload in the gallery has a toggle for
indicating whether a picture is mature; please preface any stories containing mature
content with [mature] tag in front of the title.

Please see and heed the guidelines here for the creation of a mature arts folder: Mature Art Access and Albums

Things that qualify as mature are visible genitalia, graphic depictions of sexual
activities, and gore. Bare breasts in a non-sexual situation are OK. If you are
uncertain, err on the side of caution and PM the moderators asking for a judgement call.

The gallery software determines your age based on what you tell us in your forum
profile. You have the option to not tell us your age (this is default), but if you do
choose to tell us your age you are required to be truthful about it.

User Agreement

You agree to adhere to the above rules.

Major changes to this agreement will be communicated via an email to the address you used to
register on this forum, so be sure to register with an email you check periodically.

These are privately owned boards. If there are disputes or requests we will hear the
arguments, but in the end our word is the law in this corner of the Internet. We heavily
advocate free speech, but remember that free speech only applies because of the
goodness of our hearts -- it is not required by an actual law in a private forum like this
    or others like it.

You agree, through your use of this forum, that you will not post any material which is
false, defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, hateful, harassing, threatening, invasive of a
person's privacy, or otherwise in violation of any International or United States Federal
    law.

By posting a picture or a story, either in the gallery or the forum, you assert that you
are the copyright-holder for that piece, or are acting as an authorized agent for the
copyright-holder. You also grant us a temporary, revocable license to show that
material on these forums. You can revoke the license at any time by removing the
material from your post or the gallery.

You also agree generally not to post any copyrighted material unless you own the copyright, or have
written consent from the owner of the copyrighted material, or in good faith believe that posting the
    material falls under Fair Use.

Spam, flooding, chain letters, pyramid schemes, and wanton solicitations are forbidden
    on this forum.

Note that it is impossible for the staff or the owners of this forum to confirm the
validity of posts. Please remember that we do not actively monitor the posted
messages, and as such, are not responsible for the content contained within. We do
not warrant the accuracy, completeness, or usefulness of any information presented.

The posted messages express the views of the author, and not necessarily the views
of this forum, its staff, its subsidiaries, or this forum's owner.

Anyone who feels that a posted message is objectionable is encouraged to notify an
administrator or moderator of this forum immediately. The staff and the owner of this
forum reserve the right to remove objectionable content, within a reasonable time
frame, if they determine that removal is necessary.

This is a manual process, however, so please realize that we may not be able to remove or edit
particular messages immediately. This policy applies to member profile information as well.

You remain solely responsible for the content of your posted messages. Furthermore,
you agree to indemnify and hold harmless the owners of this forum, any related
websites to this forum, its staff, and its subsidiaries.

The owners of this forum also reserve the right to reveal your identity (or any other related
information collected on this service) in the event of a formal complaint or legal action arising from
any situation caused by your use of this forum.

You have the ability, as you register, to choose your username. We advise that you
keep the name appropriate. With this user account you are about to register, you
agree to never give your password out to another person except an administrator, for
your protection and for validity reasons. You also agree to NEVER use another person's
account for any reason.  We also HIGHLY recommend you use a complex and unique
password for your account, to prevent account theft.

Please note that all applications for membership are checked manually to avoid
spammers, spambots and the like. Therefore the registration process may take some
time. As we want to keep this place as neat as it is not flooded by spam, we hope you
    understand this.

After you register and login to this forum, you will be able to fill out a detailed profile. It
is your responsibility to present clean and accurate information. Any information the
forum owner or staff determines to be inaccurate or vulgar in nature will be removed,
with or without prior notice. Appropriate sanctions may be applicable.

Please note that with each post, your IP address is recorded, in the event that you
need to be banned from this forum or your ISP contacted. This will only happen in the
event of a major violation of this agreement.

Also note that the software places a cookie, a text file containing bits of information
(such as your username and password), in your browser's cache. This is ONLY used to
keep you logged in/out. The software does not collect or send any other form of
    information to your computer.

Hello fellow EQ fanart members,
I would like to issue the following challenge/request for help:

Art/Technical Layout for the New Elfquest Fanart Site

When we switch from this site to the new site end of February, Foxeye's
awesome layout of this site will also be gone.
A site and forum without any art/neat design would be rather
sad and dreary. So therefore, the
new administration team together with the help of the current
administration team have decided to ask you to send in your
designs/layouts for the new site.
The good news: we will be able to implement not just one of your
great designs, but we will install a feature that will allow you
to choose your favorite layout among the ones that we will hopefully
get in the end.

However, this is not going to be an easy task. As Maggie mentioned to
me, there is no sense to start drawing when we have no people who can
handle the technical side. So please, all you talented people, don't
just start drawing, let's start discussion first to see if we can get
the technical side and the artistic side to work.It would be great if
teams of both sides would form and work this out together.
If someone here can simultaneously handle both the technical and the
artistic side, that, of course would also be great! The more, the better.
Thanks in advance for everybody who is willing to help out with this
project in such a short time!

What is needed

Technical side

- We need some CSS/SMF/PHP/HTML tech-savvy people who can handle the creation
of a new theme on the technical level.

- As Foxeye has stated before, the site is based on the
  following:
Simple Machines Forum (SMF) 1.1.xa, so any experience on that field would be more
  than awesome

Please see also the links below for a description of themes and how change them:

http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Creating_and_Understanding_Themes#Introduction

Here is a choice of already existing themes the mods have pre-chosen and for which I will give
the sizes of the pictures we would need to make it individual below:

http://custom.simplemachines.org/themes/index.php?lemma=481
(Theme Extreme yesil)

http://custom.simplemachines.org/themes/index.php?lemma=520
(Theme Ayasofya)

http://custom.simplemachines.org/themes/index.php?lemma=593
(Theme Hobbit (don't kill me for this, I just like the greens so much)

http://custom.simplemachines.org/themes/index.php?lemma=599
(Theme DreamLike)

If you just don't like any of these and don't want to work with them, there a dozens
more to be found and used under:

http://custom.simplemachines.org/themes/

Please note that I only researched the needed picture size for the four above and if you
choose your own theme to work on, you should research yourself or contact me.

- The way I understood it, you can download a theme and than change the look by modifying the sub templates. As far as I understood, it often makes most sense to make your own new version of the BoardIndex.template.php and the style.css or copy those from the Default theme and change that according to your wishes.
However, I still have no clue how to put that into action and I hope some of our PHP experienced members can help to get a simpler explanation.

Artistic side

- We need people to create an Elfquest related theme/layout for the new site
- The theme should be clearly related to Elfquest
- The theme can/should include some landscape, like the current
one. Maybe some landscapes connected to the World of Two Moons would be nice.
- Feel free to include canon Elfquest characters (we got the permission to use
  them from Richard Pini)
- Feel free to include your self-elves
- Feel free to create your own non-canon elves for this theme, as long
as they clearly look like EQ elves
- Feel free to create a new EQ fanart mascot/mascots (as Splotch/Blot
  will also leave *cries*)
- Even though, I don't think anyone will draw such a design for the front page, I'd like to point out that we cannot use explicit pictures concerning sexuality or gore for the main page.

Here are the picture sizes for the four themes posted above:

901x138
For "Extreme Yesil"

958x126
For "Ayasofya"

559X232
For "The Hobbit"

1024x170
For "DreamLike"

As you can see, the pictures should be horizontal/long.

All members are allowed to take part in this, including mods.
I would really like to keep this an open challenge, so we can all discuss
this, help each other out and hopefully form some artist/technician teams
to create the new layout in a successful and in the end applicable way.
Should you finish something, please post it in the challenge thread.
In the end the mods will judge the best entry and also the 3 best runners-up
and hopefully make all those available as choose able layout for the new page.

Deadline

The deadline is February 26th, 2012

I hope you all be motivated to give our new holt a unique and wonderful appearance.
And I know this is much to ask after all the calendar work, but
I'll be extra grateful for all help and feedback.

Art and Elfquest / Complete Elfquest (unused) Movie Script Online
« on: September 30, 2011, 09:13:06 AM »
Wendy and Richard have uploaded the complete unused storyboard on EQ.com:
http://www.elfquest.com/comic_viewer.php?fd=/gallery/OnlineComics/PressWR94/_ElfQuest%20-%20the%201994%20storyboard_page=1

I am so totally smitten with the art! :hail :love :shocker

But I must say that some part of me is somewhat glad that this didn't get made into a movie after all. Some parts are great and I love how different it is, it's just that Leetah as permanent damsel in distress and Rayek as super-villain left me a bit  :-\.
Anyway, it's just amazing with how much care and detail this storyboard is done! Especially in this sketchy stage Wendy's brilliance shows through, I think. The fluidity of line, movement. The still spot-on expressions, timing and action are  :score10

Especially for all who are not on Facebook. The trailer for the Final Quest is out!

Elfquest Final Quest teaser

Wow... I have to process this in my brain first before I can say much about this. This sure gets me speculating...

Art and Elfquest / [Tools of the Trade] Printer - which to buy?
« on: February 26, 2011, 12:51:19 AM »
Am back with another technical equipment question: I have been without a printer for many years now and I didn't really miss or need it. But now that I am starting to do more digital coloring, I really would like to print out my pics, just to have something physical in my hands.  :D I have never owned a color laser printer and have no idea which one I should buy. Has any of you any experience? Your tips last time really helped me a big deal!

Art and Elfquest / [Tools of the Trade] - Problems with pencil drawing
« on: September 30, 2010, 04:08:19 AM »
Lately I have been doing some pencil drawings and I always seem to have the same problem: I smudge the whole thing during the drawing process. I have even started wearing a glove which helps a bit but still is far from being clean.
Am I just klutzy or is there some (or several) good way to avoid this?

Even if I intend to clean the drawing up and color it later this is annoying, because some of the pencil stains can hardly be erased afterwards.  :-\

Art and Elfquest / [Tools of the Trade] - Scanner - which to buy
« on: August 02, 2010, 07:22:14 AM »
I'm not sure, if I should even post this in this forum, but I would like to ask you all for tips on which scanner I should by. Mine has died and thus I'm currently unable to get any art uploaded or send it with mail, etc. I found scanners to be more expensive than I thought and all the reviews about them were rather biased.
Maybe you have some experience with a certain brand? I would be grateful for any help.

The Other Art Gallery / Treefox's non-EQ stuff
« on: July 25, 2010, 08:16:38 AM »
As I haven't really done anything EQ related lately (meaning basically the last 2 years), I figured I could at least post some of the super-kitsch that I painted for various occasions. This one I must admit I'm rather proud of. This was done for the wedding of a good friend. She loves The Last Unicorn and so I decided to give her a unicorn related drawing for her wedding. Not that difficult, because I absolutely love that movie as well.

This was actually drawn directly into her wedding card. That paper was horrible to draw on! Still, I'm quite proud of how it came out in the end. But, oh, the kitsch... ah well.
