I agree with all of you. The fantasy genere has been so successfull the last decade+, it does seem like a really cheap excuse. "Sorry, we're already busy making one movie containing short people and pointed ears". Right.

I'd be more inclined to believe that WB sees the EQ-fanbase as too limited, which jeopardizes box office results. Also, I can understand that there are some doubts as to how to transfer the story to the big screen; which format, which characters to include, and so forth.
Whatever the reasons, I'm sorry for Elfmom and Elfpop, and all the fans that've been waiting for this move.

Personally, I've always had my doubts that it's possible to transfer a universe as rich as Elfquest into one feature film,  but that might be blasphemy to say outloud.

Chit-Chat / Warner: No ElfQuest movie.

It seems the moviequest has come to an abrupt ending. According Facebooks official EQ-page:

“After close to four years of suspense - and longer than four years of your much-appreciated interest and support - the word has come down from Warner Bros. And the word is ‘no.’ Their simple explanation is that they don't want to compete with The Hobbit. This was a possibility, among several, that we were prepared for. It is a relief, at last, to know.”

Did you guys know about this? I don't visit the official EQ site so often, so I had no idea...

I've updated the 2nd post - you'll find the list of participants there. If you decide you won't be able to participate, just let me know - and I'll remove your name.

However, with the site-changes, new administrators, etc - it might be a good idea to wait until the new site is up and running. Esp. since some of you have volunteered to be modarators, and might be quite busy in that period. Or what do you guys think?

In any way-  with the new deadlines for the calendar, looks like we have to wait until at least mid-february.
We also have to exchange e-mail-adresses , but I'll get back to that a week or so befor we actually get started - probably I'll send you all a PM.

@ Maggie. UFOs are more than welcome! ;D

Personally I don't have anything against DA, but if it means "losing" people like Treefox and Windrider (she doesn't have a gallery there, I think?), we should absolutely find another option.

I'm all for Maggies idea if it means that this community can live on!

Nooooooo!!!

 :'(

I love this place - we all do -  it'd be terrible to see it die. I feel like I know everyone here, EQ.com simply wouldn't be the same.

I agree with Afke: if nothing else, we should at least make a group on Deviantart and try to get as many of us as possible to sign up. I'm going to miss this community so much....

Yay! I'm glad so many people are interested! So, it seems we should wait until the 2014-caldendar is done -sometime in february, perhaps? How does that sound?

Keep in mind that we're doing this for the fun of it - you decide yourselves how much time and energy you'll put into each drawing - even five minutes of contribution is fine, if you find yourself short on time. The important thing is to keep the ball rolling :)

I must admit I don't have the "rules" clearly figured out yet. I've only done stuff like this in RL with my friends, and then we just followed our imagination. For instance, I start drawing a certain character, person #2 continues working on the same char, person # 3 isn't so great with figure drawing, but adds a wicked background, person # 4 decides to add a 2nd character to interact with the first. And so on.

And basically, the 2-3 last persons on the list try to finish it up as much as possible, so that the final result looks somewhat like a finished picture instead of a bunch of random sketches put together on a sheet.

The main point, is, of course, to have fun  ;)

...or whatever we should call it  ;D

Some of us have been discussing the idea of having an online EQ-drawing-get-together. The general idea would be something like this: all who are interested sign up on a list here on the forums. On a certain date, every single member sends a sketch of something EQ- related to the next member on the list (the last one sends to the first on the list) - who contributes to the drawing in their own way. And so on, until all drawings have done a full circle.

Then we go ahead and post them here, to the marvel and delight of all EQ-fandom ;D

Since I know a lot of us  (*cough* like me* cough*) are still busy with the final calendar entries, it'll probably be some time before we get around to eventually organizing it. But, in the mean time -

does this sound interesting to you guys? Any ideas or thoughts?

It's up!!!

This. Is. Epic.

Will be back with more intelligent comments after enjoying art.

Edit:
Is it just me, or has everybody outdone themselves for this calendar? I'm constantly going "wow"!
:hail to Foxeye and Windrider for putting it all together!

I am quite curious to also see how much the shipping cost to Europe will be. They do ship outside the U.S, don't they?

Oh, please say that they do.... :-\

Hmm, remote diagnosis isn't something I like to do but do can you tell what happened? Which OS is it, does the HD still spin up? I mean, there is often a nice solution by using a Linux LiveCD. mounting drives, copying your important data to a USB media and there you are. Maybe repair the faulty OS later.
If the filesystem is hurt, well, still chances to rescue things, but if the HDD itself is broken then it's time to find a recent backup. If it is some other hardware error, no worries that can be exchanged or repaired. The HDD is the most important part of your computer.

Thank you so much for your willingness to help, jaRF! This morning, my uncle actually managed to save most of my picture files to a USB key! (Yup, I'm such a noob I had to turn to my soon 70-y.o uncle to save the day ;D ) I have no idea how he managed to do this, since I haven't even been able to switch it on properly for two days.

The computer will be handed in for (possible) repair, and in the meantime I'll be using the computer I'm on now. Crossing my fingers!

Yeah, my sympaties go out to Windrider, too.  I'd never find the time to put in all the extra work that is needed to organize the calendar, least of all in December. Add life's stressful surprises to that...  So, hang in there and take your time, Windrider!

As for me, my computer decided to have a major crash this weekend.
Not the one I'm using now, but the one I've used for drawing the last couple of months. It's been behaving weirdly for some time, but thickheaded as I am, I didn't even make backup-copies. As a result, I might have lost the entries of Willowgreen and Leetah.

I haaaate drawing eyes. I leave them till the very last, and even then usually rush them.  :baghead

 :lol Well, it doesn't show!

Come to think of it, that's actually what I do with hands and feet :lol

I'm with you, Afke. :)  I put eye-shapes in early, but often refine them very late in the process; and don't fill in pupils until close to the end of the sketching stage.  And yeah, eyebrows are really important to me.

It's really fascinating to learn how you guys work.

When I'm working digitally, I tend to start drawing and defining the eyes quite early - including pupils and highlights.
If I'm working traditionally, though, I usually do like you, Eregyrn - filling in the pupils at a much later point. This applies especially when I'm doing a pencil portrait (something I hardly do anymore :( ) It's a special feeling when you realize that your drawing is suddenly "looking" at you.

On a calendar-note.... I just finished Rillfisher!!! FINALLY! I've been struggeling with her for months. Literally.

@Branchscamper: Awww  :hug  I'm keeping my fingers crossed - hope you'll manage to finish Tyleet!

@Windrider: If that means we get to see the 2012-calendar ASAP, I'm all for it :D

My impatience aside, and on a more serious note: Seems like a good idea to me. If we're running short of entries for the 2014-calendar , I'm sure a lot of artists will step in to fill the slots, especially if submissions are open until february. We can repost the message regularly on facebook and the EQ forums to get the attention of new artists, too. Once the first calendar is published, I suppose even more new artists will want to participate.

Basically, though, it all boils down to what's easier for you guys organizing it all.

I'm really close to drawing zombie elves again. I mean, for real this time.  :-\

I still kinda like the idea of Zombie elves  ;)

Seriously though: if you want, I'd be more than happy to do do some C/C. I've had to ask Foxeye for that myself, it realy helps to get some fresh input!

Just send me a PM :)

I'm spending the day colouring LongFin and Dodia and should have those set to send in.  OT at work and a car accident sent me far behind  :(  I'm not sure I'll have Tyleet ready.  I really wanted to have her done, but I've become very self conscious of drawing her after seeing some amazing pictures others have done.  I doubt I will do her justice as the others have  :-[

:( I was looking foreward to seing your version of Tyleet :( I've always loved the Venka-Kahvi-Vaya piece you did for another calender.

And...car accident?? Hope you're all right!

@Silentleaf: skimming your last post, I got the impression you were drawing cutter in a pumpkin. Like, popping out of a giant pumpkin. That would be very...halloween-ish. And weird. And possibly very cool.
