Title: Wildfire's very scarce non-EQ art
Post by: Wildfire on January 07, 2011, 02:08:03 PM
Never thought I'd actually make a thread in here since I rarely draw anything but EQ, but what do you know, I actually did for once!

C/C will ALWAYS be appreciated :D

Hello everyone, say hello to my friend Procrastination! I should be writing an exam, not drawing creepy ladies...

Ever drawn a picture which you thought were Totally Awesome for a while, but then after a few days of not working on it, you think it's kinda.. meh? Yeah, that's how I feel about this one.

This lady is crazy. Megalomanically so. Bonkers. Batshit crazy. Totally nuts. And she does have a story, I just haven't written it yet.

First OC (and a new one!) and non-Elfquest I've drawn in a looooong time! She was just supposed to be a loose portrait on which I could try out some tutorials, but it kind of evolved past that...

Also, she's not entirely finished. I got lazy and bored with her, but I might return to her at some point.

Wow, Wildfire! Gorgeous gothic design! The hair is great! And the colors you chose, too. Also, it's nice to see some non-EQ work from you. I think you are able to show the difference between a human and an elf in your drawings very well. My humans tend to look way too elfy.

Thank you :D I recently became aware of how one-sided I am, art-wise. I can't really draw anything without it having elven proportions... Elfquest made me want to draw, but I forgot to draw non-Elfquest art along the way. So I realized that I couldn't really draw anything except EQ and thought "Hell no!". So now I'm drawing non-EQ stuff! I'll probably not draw much EQ for the next months or so ^_^
Art-improvement ftw!

I did a character sheet! Woo, yay me! This is the first time ever I actually "completed" one. It's very sketchy and stuff, but I always have trouble drawing OC's from different angles. Usually they never end up looking like the same character... I think I succeeded in making her recognizable, but if I didn't, PLEASE tell me!

Also, creepy lady is now named Maeryn ^___^

I really ought to do one for Wildfire as well.

This is turning out to be Wildfire's not-so-scarce-after-all art corner O__o I'm on a roll here!

EDIT: Oh gods, his eyes are terrible!

And another one! Bishie boy no. 2

I'm going to write a comic about these characters in the hopes that I'll be forced to draw all sorts of expressions and poses. Provided that I don't lose interest or can't figure out Manga Studio xD

Very nice! Let me start out by saying these pictures are really good. :) I can see what you mean about having not drawn much non-EQ art recently. I can still see some EQ influence in these, but not much. It's mostly (of course) in the eyes -- which I think might take a drastic step from EQ to anime if they were *slightly* less tilted up at the edges -- but I'm not really an expert on anime style! (Even though I love it.)

As for whether Maeryn is recognizable -- I'd have to say YES. I'm one of those rude-nick people who greedily scans for art when I first look at a post, *then* read the text. When I saw the images, I was like, "Oh, cool, more of her." That was *without* reading the part where you said its the same girl. (And though the hair is a dead giveaway... it was really the expression.)
Title: Re: Wildfire's very scarce non-EQ art

Thank you for your comment! :D (I'm such a comment-whore...)

Yes, the eyes are quite Elfquest-y. That way of drawing eyes just sticks with me xD I think anime is pretty, but I don't really want to become too accustomed to that style. I think I'll stick with my own half-EQ, half-anime and then some. ^__^

Thanks for that! I'm lousy at drawing my OC's in a way that's consistant, so I'm glad you think so!
I scan the pages for art before reading the text as well xD

Sadly, I could not see your comic pages yet. Wouldn't let me see it without a log in. However, I love these character sheets. I think you did quite a good job and created very recognizable characters, from all angles. Hopefully I can also see them in action in your comic later on.
Don't stop trying out new things, styles and keep challenging yourself!

New artsy stuff!

I'm trying out some new things with Photoshop. With this, I wanted to try drawing without lineart and without using the smudge-tool or custom brushes. I rather like the result!
It was pretty difficult to refrain from using lineart at first, but once I got used to it, it was pretty fun.

Not using any smudging really becomes the stylishness of your picture. It looks very artsy and pretty cool. Again, it's amazing how fast you evolve!

Thank you! :D Not smudging was kinda challenging at first, but I like it now. Feels more real than just taking the easy way out.

More sketchy stuff!

I'm trying out the 100 themes challenge. Last time I "tried" this I never really got started because I wanted everything to be finished pictures. Now I'm okay with sketches :D

This is number 30. Under the Rain featuring a sad Uchiha Sasuke ^___^

*jump* Ouch! His arm's gone!!!

Hehehehe, you hate drawing her hair, but it's still fabulous!

I like the sketch, too! ^_^ Though she looks more pensive/wary than sad to me.

Drat, I forgot about the arm. I hope it's okay to post it on the forum anyway.

Thanks, it's a pain though! So. Many. Curls! D:

Hehehehh, Sasuke is a guy xD Kinda girly though, so no harm done :D It's the same guy as the drawing on the top of this page.

---------------------------------

FUCK YOU ART-BLOCK. I hate your guts.

This is the only decent thing I've painted for weeks. That's kinda pathetic. I've got half a dozen crappy sketches and in the end I decided to play it safe and paint a portrait. Pfft.

I'm pretty tired of the pink colour-scheme. Too. Much. Pink. When I started this I didn't know who I wanted to paint, so I might've chosen slightly differently if I'd known it'd be Tobias xD

Anyway, this is my demon-OC Tobias. He's appeared in my comic once and will be there again at some point!

I'm trying out some new stuff again. This was done on a single layer, which saved me a head-ache as I can never figure out how layers in Photoshop are supposed to work. So yeah, one layer, woooo!

His neck is weird -_____-'

Well, it's a different color scheme than usual, why not? I like it! Also, I think it's good that you still keep on trying to draw despite your art block. And I also still think that your progress is amazing! Don't give up!

Meh, I just got a bit tired of everything being pink! But I like the effect ^___^
Thanks, but I need to practice anatomy and bodies and such :/ It's fun to draw portraits, but I should be drawing other things, I've been stuck drawing faces for far too long. Oh well, I'll keep trying!

Thank you :D

Waaah, he's so prettyyyyy! <3

I never thought I'd create a really girly guy, but hey what do I know?

His jewelry is largely inspired by Linneus from Teahouse Comic (Check it out if you're over 18 and not homophobic! It's awesome!)

Helyan is another demon OC of mine. He'll appear in my comic at a point, but I'll have to do something about his headpiece... Drawing that in a comic would be ridiculously complicated xD

Preeeeeettyyyyyyyy!

Again, done on one layer and with a regular hard round brush of varying opacity.

<3

EDIT: I changed my mind about his eye and changed his green eye to blue.

Remember the first picture of Maeryn I did? (If not it's on the first page :D) Well, the colouring sucked. So here's the revamped version, this time without the smudge-tool and with actual shading!

This was just a sketch for a meme, but I like it enough to upload it separately.

As I might have mentioned about 1000 times before, I really, really like rough sketches, as they keep the energy and the goodness of the original drawing.

Title: Re: Wildfire's very scarce non-EQ art
Post by: Wildfire on September 29, 2011, 02:57:31 PM
Naw, it's not exactly. There are aspects of her (like the eyes, the shadows on her nose and the line-shape generally) that I "copied" from Daimidas' style. But there are still other parts from my own "style" shining through.
I might try to copy other styles in the next few weeks, it's quite fun to try drawing in another persons style! Difficult, but fun. It helps me to look at things in a different way :D

Title: Re: Wildfire's very scarce non-EQ art

I've never liked Naruto to be honest. Mostly because my brother fawned over it, thus I automatically despised it. When I tried reading it later, I fell asleep after the first six pages. XD

What I'd like is a image of Captain Darling from Blackadder Goes Forth. If you haven't watched that series, it is the last season in the Blackadder series, set to World War I. Preferably a capture of the wonderful "twitch of horror" when general Melchett tells him he has been holding him away from the "fun" and commissions him to join the attack the forces are going to do in the morning. Which is a suicide mission, more or less.

Here is a youtube link. The whole scene with Melchett and Darling goes from 05.20 and ends in 07.51.

S4E6P2-2 Blackadder Goes Forth - Goodbyeee (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2NgyRsQeTFE&feature=related#)

If that is too hard, then I'd love a drawing of Donald Duck.

I love that bottom one, with the bird. It looks sort of like it was done with ballpoint pen. Nifty with the one part with yellow faded paper, the other white.

Oh it actually IS done with a ballpoint pen. I loathe working with it, but it was the only thing available 8D

The paper thing is just because I have a crappy scanner. Both pages are yellow-ish ^___^

Ooo, a mermaid! Did you enjoy drawing a mermaid?
I love her body shape! It's quite natural.
Lovely stuff, showing variety in style and themes. That's always good!

Forgot to say that the mermaid is pretty. I love her skin.

This isn't a complaint, but it seems so odd to me that she is petting a jellyfish. I'm must admit that I don't know so much about 'em, outside the experiences at my summerhouse. We get some there. None of them are lethal, but the ones with strings hurt when you either come across stray strings separated by fishing hooks or when you accidentally make contact with them. I know she is only petting it, but since it has strings, my first reaction is to snatch her away from it, like I used to do with my cousins, and will do with my nephew and niece when they get old enough to play by the sea.

The watercolor texture (I assume that is what the background is) works lovely. I like her eyes, and how lively she seems.

The winged creature looks like art for a game. It seems relaxed, content, but still on guard, waiting for something to happen. Is it from a game or a series? in that case, what is it called?

You have really beautiful lineart! Your sense of line is quite lovely.

Thanks guys!

@Treefox, I rather enjoy drawing mermaids, the possible movement of the tail is really interesting! I never seem to finish any of them though...

@Startear, well, she IS a mermaid, she might have some natural resistance when it comes to jellyfish 8D Truth to be told, I just wanted to draw a jellyfish xD
The winged creature is an original character by http://olivethebreloom.deviantart.com/ (http://olivethebreloom.deviantart.com/)

@Kitt, I don't think anyones ever said that before, digitally I don't use lineart much. Thank you!

I'm participating in a teacher-student arrangement on Deviantart by http://the-classroom.deviantart.com/ (http://the-classroom.deviantart.com/)
My two first assignments:
A speedpaint (appr. 1 hour and 15 minutes)
Refining the speedpaint, adding background etc:

I bet my next task will be colouring it xD

And this was speed painting??!!
It's gorgeous! What a beautiful woman. Please show the next steps, too!

I want to touch her skin. It looks so soft, and I love her body.

Treefox, the first one was a speed painting yes, the second one was my second assignment which involved cleaning it up and refining it ;)

Haha, I realized that only the first one was a speed painting. But it's so amazing already! Is the time fixed? Or how does it work?

Well, I just set a timelimit for myself and tried to stick to that. My original timelimit was one hour, but I ended up spending fifteen minutes more because I couldn't resist detailing her face some xD

Lately I've been at a standstill artwise. I've been working on anatomy and such, but I've been slacking off when it comes to actually finishing something. So yeah. Just a portrait, but I tried working on lighting and contrast and getting it to a point where the rough spots are intended to be rough instead of just slacking off   :lol

Ah, and this is a revamp of my OC Helyan without all of his bling :D

Mh, he's broodingly handsome. The colors, as always are great. I love how this ever so slight touch of skin color gives the gray a warmer feeling. Lovely hair, too!

Thanks guys :D

I haven't uploaded much in the past few months because 1. My laptop broke (which sucks because I'm going to a 3D school in less than a month and I really wanted to practice my crappy drawings before going, haha) and 2. I lost my sketchbook (boo)
I finally managed to install a trial-version of Photoshop on my parents computer which means that I can draw digitally again yay. The only drawback is that they're always looking at the screen when I'm drawing. I've always loathed being watched while drawing.

Anyway, I'm obsessed with Benedict Cumberbatch at the moment. Yay Sherlock!

Yay, Sherlock! :D

You've captured his moodine :Dss pretty well. I love the greyscale, especially since he's smoking. Does John know?  ;)

While I still haven't seen that Sherlock series (hangs head in shame), I like the stylish black and white coloring. Gives this a classical movie look. Also, he looks like a human, not like an elf with round ears. Very good!

I started school!
These are some sketches I've done in the past few days, mainly to get acquainted with the GORGEOUS Intuos4 tablet I'm using at school (ohmygodiloveit) and as a warm up routine/procrastination.
