Title: Faerydae's Non-EQ Art
Post by: Faerydae on May 06, 2010, 01:44:27 PM
Well guess I ought to have one of these as well, since most of my art isn't fan art as I like to sell mine for paying the bills, and any fan art is not anything that will earn me a dollar lol.

This is the latest one I'm working on ... it's a touch messy, and needs a bit more work, but, it has the right feel (even if the wingfs are messed up lol)

Granted this image is a little bigger than the piece itself actually is ... as it is an ACEO and so is only 3.5 inches by 2.5 inches in size.

Thought this one might be nice to share here...

It's another one without inking in the lineart ... I really am enjoying painting that way! :)

Wow, I really like your tree nymph. And your coloring is fabulous. Very sprightly and ethereal.

Georgeous!! All of them!

I am curious: What coloring tools do you use? Especially on the not-inked.

And: Your mermaids have a backside!!!  :D  I really like that.

Awww thank you!

On the mer-booty bit ... that was my personal solution to how they mated ... lol!

I'd never seen it done that way after years of researching various mermaid art and artists so decided I'd be the first to throw it out there - as far as I know, it's kind of an original slant. Although now that I've been throwing them out on the net for the past five years, I'm seeing other artists do it more and more, I just liked it wayyy better than that whole at the belly button the fishie part starts, and am happy to see others seem to agree, I think it makes them a lot more sexier! lol

The not inked was all watercolor pencils and watercolors and then colored pencils on top with gouche as the white highlight bits. I did use india ink for the lashes and pupils - you just can't beat a pen for precise black lines.

Wow! Really, how have I missed this? I love how curvaceous and colorful they are! Lovely linework combined with lovely colors. Hopefully, you'll post more here too!

So this was like my first serious stab at using my ew prismacolor markers that I got yesterday ... I doodled a quickie "chibi" Dawn sketch to fill in (thinking that I was going to just wind up throwing this away, I didn't want to invest in a "real" drawing, lol) ... I really like how it's turned out so far ... I'm thinking I might muck around with it a little more ... not sure. But I think it's my new favorite art card of mine. LOL!

Well, if that's not a good result for a first try! I always liked Dawn's design and the markers bring out the colors beautifully. Hopefully we'll see more of your marker art in the future.

I have to say I really love your art-style. I remember falling head over hell in love with your Woodland Fairies. O,o

I love the details, colours, the flow of her hair, her large eyes, I'm really jealous of her lips. (I still have some massive problems drawing lips. XD)

Thanks guys, that is really sweet of ya'll to say.

All I can say on the lips is ... if you practice, they WILL get easier. I have failed thousands of times more than I have ever succeeded once, honestly!

I really love your stuff. Your mermaids are gorgeous, and I agree about the booty part. It is a way sexier way to mate than bellybuttons. Even though I didn't know that was the most common way to make 'em breed before you mentioned it.  :lol

I know that you say that you are a line artist, but I have to say that you are really good at coloring.

What I admire most is how you do hair. It does look very much like hair, but you manage to use negative space. I have so much trouble with this, because I think it is so much fun, and had a bad habit of doing hair line after line after line, then build it up, even though I know I should know better.

Also, hope you're recovering well, last I heard I think it was that you had been in and out of hospital.
