Rayek suffers from horrible smart tv experiment

by Czarine

This one day I woke up earlier than my partner and found out that Berit was drawing in AnonDraw. I wanted to join in the doodling fun, but I didn't want to wake up my partner (our bedroom = my art room/office). I couldn't find his laptop anywhere, so I decided to try to open AnonDraw via our smart tv. :D

One thing led to another and soon I found myself drawing Rayek with a tv remote controller.  ;D And Rayek is, as you know, our favorite subject for any kind of EQ-related art test. Sorry, Rayek! (not really)

If anyone is interested, here are some challenges/notions and how to work around them:

- the brush tool doesn't work with the remote, but the line tool does!

- with the remote, you can move the cursor only in increments. I overcame this by zooming in on the canvas, to make the increments "smaller".

- it's really hard to try to pick colors from the palette with the cursor movement being what it is. Color pick from other's art! Otherwise, you could take on the challenge and use a restricted color palette, or mix your own color swatches on canvas with opacity. Since I couldn't get the red I wanted, I muted it so it wouldn't look too contrasted.

- the pan/drag-tool doesn't work. Move the canvas by changing the coordinates on your tv's web browser address bar, or ask a fellow artist (like Berit!) to color a spot for you. Then you can just click the eye tool next to the artist's name, and the canvas will move there. Remember to uncheck it too, so it stops following the artist!

- I found it easiest to make a messy sketch, and start applying flat colors with the biggest brush I could use. Then I made the line art and lastly, I tried to use a low-opacity purple to do some shading. It's not the best for that, but it was relatively quick to do. Cel shading style ftw!

I don't think I'll be using the tv remote for another art piece, but it was fun anyway (my hand disagrees tho)!  :D Now, what device could I use to draw in AnonDraw next...

I agree this is absolutely amazing! How you manage to master computer based art is most impressive and enviable! I think it stays true to your style and is excellently rendered, but it does show this isn't your medium and you're playing with it. Not a complaint in any shape, form, or fashion. The hair has a few harsh angles on it, but apart from that pickiness, it's really exceptionally done. Be proud of it!

No way! You drawn this with the remote?! That's awesome! I once tried to draw with the gameconsole motion controller and it doesn't look half as good. It was like having an oversized pen attached on my hand. Your overcoming the restriction of tools is a very interesting part to read. I like your solutions!
Funny that Rayek is your favorite subject to test new art types! hehe, like the outcome! Looks like a planned different style. Love it!  :love

Ohhhhh goodness that's some process! I won't try to replicate your work flow, but I'm really impressed that you could get such a good result with a remote! It does turn out as a slightly different style than your usual work, but it's very nice

I think they were probably the most tedious 4-5 hours of my art life so far... :D I can't recommend it for anyone!

Hahaha, there's just nothing that can stop you from doing art, that's what I mostly get out of this. ;D
