Another character I cannot get enough of but we rarely get to see! The expression is so good! Your watercolors so intense, just love the transition from blue sky to yellow sun to the sap green and saturated darker greens. This really sparkles!

To be honest I'm a bit confused who it could be..? Is it Huntress?
Characters from the past are always a bit harder to convey, but you did well to make her your own, and you did so good in mixing the various colours! None seem to be "straight from the box" and I'm very pleased to see someone else tackle a traditional medium for this calendar as well. ;D

This looks like modern art and I really like that about it. What startled her? Or is she calling out for someone? I wonder.
And I don't know who she is.

You always tell a story with your art Startear. :) I really like the sketchy/painty texture of this. It makes me miss my watercolours.

For those of you who doesn't recognize the character. it's Rahnee the She-Wolf! =D She is my absolutely favorite character of all time so after I realized that Chot was off the list, I realized that Rahnee was avaliable. But she is also very intimidating and difficult to draw, so I took a long time to even consider drawing her. And when I did, I decided to focus on one of my favorite scenes, when Timmorn tosses his spear right in front of Rahnee and tells her to find her name (as she was without one at the time, it's in the anthologies.) The text says that no one gasped louder than she did, so I added the shocked expression. I also considered "my self is dark" scene but I was falling into a depression so I didn't want to illustrate such a sad scene.

I had a lot of fun with this illustration but also lots of trouble. First my work and school double-booked me so I was busy all the time. I could only work on this between 6 am until 7.30 in the morning before I had to rush out and not get back until nine pm. After trying to draw her hair several times I decided to simplify her hair a lot, and feared she wouldn't be recogniseable but again, that hair is murder. I quickly decided to use watercolors despite not touching them in years, and mix it with oil pastels to make the colors pop. A big gamble but I was feeling adventurous. As I painted the paper gave me huge grief as it turned out to scrub after second layer. Despite all of these issues, I had lots of fun and focused a lot on symbolism, having Rahnee lit in the back, she cannot see her own bright future, the trees that hint on her people's future, the somewhat murky shading because nothing was ever easy for her and the spear in the middle.

So yeah! It was great fun and I'm happy I managed to pull it off.

nice detailing on the grassy field here and I also like the multicolored sky! I also like the animal head detail of the spear!...

Now that you mention it, I think I have read that story, just very very long ago!
You're right, Rahnee is very tough to draw... The few times I tried I stuggled as well.
I love all the symbolism you put in, this clearly took a lot of work!

Oooh I love Rahnee! It's great to see art of her, she's such a killer character. I really like your choice of scene, very dramatic and emotional. Makes me want to reread the anthologies!

Ah, I already suspected some character that has its origin in the past. Now that looks like someone's up to a surprising challenge at late evening. I still might have some white spots on my EQ knowledge I see.
