I could have sworn I posted a comment to this! This is just one of the most stunning calendar illos, and likely my favorite one of yours. It has such an amazing photo-realistic, lifelike quality to it that makes one just look twice - is it a photo? Wow! The eyes, of course, have it; they are mesmerizing and completely haunting. The rough shading and coloration on the skin matches perfectly with the overall idea of the character; the humans in his time were rough and still somewhat primitive. The color scheme for this is terrific, making the eyes stand out even more. The muscle tone and relaxed pose just breathtaking. And sexy, too!

Holy crap. That's impressive. Another raw beauty. Charismatic I'd say.  Didn't remember little patch in this stage from the comics. But good point to capture him.

This is probably the most mesmerizing entry in the 2012 calendar. His facial is so haunting and captivating, not to mention so very lifelike. His sexy pose is so difficult; musculature from the back can be hard to achieve, but you nailed it. You could literally just reach out and touch this guy (not sure if I'd really want to, though). Not one for the EQ humans, but you've made him very sexy. This is something I'd gladly print and put on my wall...but not in my bedroom - he looks a bit too haunted for that. Brilliant work, Finnguala!

Guess I have a soft spot for Human males in these calendars. Finding Little Patch here at a mutures age is a welcome surprise. A very attractive back sight - love his skin and the flowing hair. Gorgeaous headshot - his expression shows the years he had seen, the struggles he had lost and won and grown on it. His eyes lock with mine. I like how you merged pelt and hair, making the bear a part of him.
Is the action pose supposed to be so ... ambivalent? Patch seems to be tired already, aging, but still watchful and on alert. Don't mess with him - he's still strong and ready to prove his skills!

I, too, would never thought that the picture is done in Photoshop. I'm amazed that it's possible to make such effects there. It's wonderful! I think it makes the picture look warmer, somehow. I love the colours you used and the look in his eyes, there's so much there. I think he is great character and your version of him here makes me so happy!

Love this. I especially love how much he looks like a human, instead of a round-eared elf.

This is stunning.  Stunning.  And I never in a million years would have thought it was done in Photoshop.  What an interesting character choice, and what interesting poses to put him in!  And his eyes in the portrait are so captivating!  I really hope we see more from you here, Saskia!

I would also like to join. Maybe we should make a thread to discuss this?

We should organize an online drawing party: all who are interested sign up on a list. On a certain date, every single member sends a sketch to the next member on the list (the last one sends to the first on the list) - whom contributes to the drawing in their own way. And so on, until all drawings have done a full circle :D

A RL drawing party would be much cooler though...!

I'm still impressed that drawing is 100% Photoshop....

I agree with silentleaf, we all could learn so much from each other! As for the picture, his stare is so intense, it's almost scary!! Gotta love the realism.

@Silentleaf: Thank you so much! Do you have an account on DeviantART by any chance? You can find me there and check out my other work: finnguala.deviantart.com. A collab sounds fun, I don't have much time atm though, but in the near future perhaps?

@Mirror: Haha ;D I wish I could invite you to my house and show you how, it's so hard to explain in words how I work. I use standard PS brushes, I start with a soft round brush to do all the colouring and then use 'thick, heavy brushes' (these: http://www.slicktutorials.com/ps/plasma/4.jpg) with a low opacity to create a sort of traditional media look. Finally I use textures from cgtextures.com (rust) and fiddle with the layers until I am pleased.

@Maggie: Thank you! :D

fantastic!!! the poses are so unforced I also love how you don't use black to out line anything just the contrast of the background to the brown of his skin. this is so fantastically painterly I want to print it and put it on my freaking wall! I would LOVE to collaborate on an image with you if you ever want to!
