Pinvis in sanddunes

Here's a new one of Pinvis, for my series of A4 sized pictures of my Zilte Muzen characters with colorful background done in copic markers.

I found a really pretty photo of these dunes, and although there was a big white square in the middle of it with text, I saw enough of it to create this background.

I'm not too sure about Pinvis' proportions. I like her pose and all, but for "elfquest related" I might've drawn her too tall.

I love the light here. I have the feel you are testing out new light setings and this one is just AWESOME! Just love the way the background feels against the elf and the and looks so soft..
As for the high.. Hmm I think .. as odd as it sounds her head might just a tad to small so her body seems too tall for an elf.

Soand now feel honered becauseit takes forever to load a picture and get the forum to post my comment XD

The little details like the shadows even on the grass add so much to this mood. As I am really always happy to see more of Pinvis, I am delighted at this pic. I would sooo wear that great outfit (if I were still a couple of years younger). But in terms of anatomy, I think you are right. It's maybe too human-ish. She looks great with it, nonetheless.

@Windschatten; drawing her head too small has the "too tall" feeling as result, is what I meant. ;)
And yes, I love to play with the light/shadows!

I remember reading in a comment discussion here somewhere, that in order to have a warm look in your picture, you should also use warm colors for shading. I feel that is not true for the Netherlands. We don't have yellow light like it is more south, shadows are blueish here, even in summer. The photo I referenced didn't feel cold at all!

I don't think this feels "cold" either, Afke -- and I'm in love with the lighting on this piece!  Also just with the landscape in general, the sand and grass and pines. (I just recently came back from a trip to a landscape like that, which is very much home, so right away this feels very comfortable and homey to me.)  The blueish shadows are perfect -- you executed them very well.  (I know now in my head that shadows should be blueish and should involve some very strong coloring, but making myself DO it is another thing.)  I especially like the way the light is hitting Pinvis's figure, really daring choice that works very well to create that sense of light.  (I would agree that her figure's fine and it's just that her head is too small for a wolfrider-proportion figure.)

Hehe then I am not completely flawed.

Agree Afke. I saw a lot of sunny pictures were the lightning and shadows seemed cool. I have somewhere at home a book with examples of fotos done of the same place at different daytime in summer. The "hottest" seeming where those with a lot of cool looking shadows. I guess it's the contrary.
As a German nutty I get a strong "Northan See" Feeling form your pictures :) Windy but warm!

Wow...when I saw the thumbnail, I thought this was superimposed over a photograph. The lighting is that bang-on.  Love this

Afke, you are getting SO good!  I love that you are constantly looking for ways to push yourself as an artist.

I kind of went "huh?" about the comment of warm shading to make the picture feel warmer.  Shadows are almost always cooler than the lit parts (the "almost" being because moonlight or artificial lighting can be exceptions).  The only exception in daylight would be an object that is getting reflected light bounced back from a warm-colored ground into the shadowed areas.

I thought that was a photo(manipulated) background at first.

I won't repeat what everyone else has said so well, but have to admit I love how you did the shadows (jealous, too!) :D
