Based on the glider, NightAngel came up with the idea for Cutter with dreads, so I doodled him in like 5 minutes...  :P

They look more like tiny braids to me than dreads. Perhaps there's a bit too much linework in them? I like the look though!

I'm kinda in agreement with afke. The linework does take a bit away from Cutter's hyperblond look, which is one of his defining features. Though, all around, it's quite a lovely and unique take on him. I think it would look spectacular in color.

Thank you very much for the comments and for the critiscm! And I agree! But this little doodle was never to be taken too seriously. As you can see by how dirty it is, it was drawn and scanned very fast. But I absolutely agree that I shouldn't have put in the lines in the dreads. A more "fuzzy" look would have served them better. Thanks once more for the attention to this little sketch!

Glad to help. :) I like the look that dreads give, that's why I'm so happy I finally managed to give one of my chars dreads too.
Perhaps you can't really see it properly in these pictures; but I've done more dreads pictures, and just trying out what most looks like it in my style. Try google some images for examples; there's pretty dreads and bad ones, real ones and fake. Ignore fake, 'cause the elves will have them for real. ;D

Hehe, I guess for the elves they would actually come in handy, as you don't really do much with the hair in terms of grooming, right? We need more Wolfriders with dreads! Some dreads do look sort of repelling, I mean the ones that basically form one big hair carpet. Not really my taste.
Man, those Trolls are amazing! And the dreads are captured in a very fine way. That's what they should look like! I'm really open to critique and will surely try to improve based on it. So thanks again for the help!

Ahh, but last time I went eating out I saw this guy with amazing dreads, they reached beyond his butt and they looked like the best I've ever seen! Don't underestimate this, they are a lot of work, my sister has had them a couple of times. I might've gotten them when I was 15 -- but found out they were too much work to maintain, I can't even sleep with braids in, and I don't like the way they feel. Won't stop me from drawing them though, haha.

I like dreads! In my hometown there was this handsome, really tall African man, who always wore finely fitting business suits and had dreads down to his knees! Just absolutely gorgeous and amazing sight! I actually don't like to sleep with braided hair, either. Did it once and couldn't sleep very well. After I took them out the next morning my hair poofed up like I had made closer contact with a power socket.  :D Sure was fun for a day.

This is very cool-looking. :)  But I'm sure you can tell just from doodling it that nobody in their right mind would ever design a character like this (either with dreadlocks or braids) for an ongoing comic.  It would drive them insane!  (Maybe for a one-shot character who appeared briefly or in the background.  I remember noticing that Wendy will frequently give background Sun Folk or Glider characters really elaborate hairstyles.)

I do love the dreads look.  We have one character at RTH who has them (and he kind of has Cutter's hair-color too), and thank god I only have to draw him occasionally!

I absolutely agree... I did a little comic with a lovely multi-braided character and I ended up using her on like three panels... one panel with her just took ages.

But I also noticed that Wendy not only gave those background characters elaborate hairstyles but also fancy detailed outfits that would (understandably) never be shown again. But I think it adds so much depth and richness to the culture.
