This is actually my 1st drawing of my 1st character for my 1st Elfquest holt (her name translates as Dreameye).

I don't have the original anymore 'cause I send it to the holtleader; it was a snailmail based holt, we'd get newsletters every once in a while. I didn't even have an email addy yet (and I had that before I had internet at home, haha!).
So I only had this copy of it that I colored to decide on her clothes, but I rescanned it in grayscale just now 'cause that's what it originally was.

I still quite like it, concidering... how boring it looks and how I sucked at proportions. :D So I redid it in a way I would do it now, also made her hair poofier, I like that. Her face was tough 'cause I always made sure all my elves had very distinctive facial features, but hers are just so off I couldn't do them anymore like that.

Oh wow afke!  This is stunning!  And I LOVE the greyscale!  The depth of the tree branches is fantastic... of course you've advanced tremendously in skill, but even the original is not bad at all -- there's something very relaxed and realistic in the pose.  Lovely!

Mmmmmmmm, I like!  Now I'm sorta hoping this challenge lingers on for a while, because there is something so satisfying about seeing how far we've come.

(That is an awesome tree.  So gnarly and full of personality.)

If it were up to me, I'd keep this one running forever. :] I loved doing this, and I have plans for more. Perhaps not all from my first days, but some I'd do completely different now nonetheless. (Kinda like that "Kick your own ass" thing that was on dA a while back, didn't have time to participate then...)

I googled a photo for the tree as example, so I was sure to get a very lively looking picture. Much more interesting than that... rock... thing she used to be on.

Actually, the proportions of your first drawing look pretty good. :)

And I love the background on your second piece. Absolutely stunning. :)

I love how you incorporated both the old and new images together. It looks as if the old drawing is a younger sister to the new Droomoog, and she is gazing out over the holt with that wide-eyed enthusiasm of youth. Or maybe the old illo is a Droomoog when she was much younger, and the new illo of Droomoog is remembering that time in her life. Yes, the older one could be on a boulder, the newer one in downed trees and bushes. Works for me! I also think the old version is fine; the perspective isn't too far off (something with the arms, though) and the face is rough and simple, but it's still good. The new version is truly amazing, though!

My goodness! I think I fell instantly in love with Droogmoog. I also think that the old version isn't that bad at all, especially concerning posture and concept. But the new one is simply breathtaking! The proportions seem so right, so does the perspective. I love her expression and the outfit! That patchwork design is absolutely lovely. Also the bandana and the hair... wow. Not to mention that lovely tree.... I so want to joint this contest!

it is beautiful, I remember the days without email and home computers. I have lost a lot of work that way myself.
