"Rockshapers' Happiest Moment" by Afke van Herpt
by Afke
Another calendar submission for favorite moments.
The rockshapers are always overlooked, I guess we haven't seen enough of them besides Ekuar, and in not so positive stories. However I did read a story I borrowed from a friend, in which Rayek, Winnowill's spirit and Ekuar tell each other's history.
I loved seeing Ekuar's friends in the happy times before they became slaves! Figured they deserved some sort of tribute. Being in the palace of the High Ones must've been the highlight of at least Mekda and Osek's life. So it's more like their favorite moment than mine.

This moment is so sad.. Such a shame and waste of their lives.. Poor Osek and Mekda Besides that, it's a wonderful illustration of them. A shame it didn't make it

This one is fabulous; really captures both the wonder and the danger of the scene. The only reason I can think why it wouldn't have been in the calendar is that it's a little bit of an obscure moment, perhaps not one that everyone would easily recognize. I heart it tho!

ooo! look at those details and soft colors! the idea is magnificent, happy and extremely sad at the same time... their expression are so full of wonder and exitement!... it's always a good thing to see those "not so familiar" elves...

What could I possibly add that hasn't already been said? This is an absolutely amazing illo, so wonderfully rendered, the soft colors, the expressions on the elves' faces, the mood of the piece, the ominous trolls lurking in the background, and the knowledge of the viewer as to what follows. No matter how obscure this scene may have been, it certainly is one that has a lasting impact. I love it!
